I nodded in agreement as I gave him another smile.
I quickly grabbed my lunchbox, wallet and water bottle as I headed outside with my best friend Lisa. I gestured to Jason that I was ready to go and he followed us behind. Lisa and I chatted happily as we inched closer to the canteen. Jason was silent throughout as he lowered his head, scrolling through his phone. Many girls stared at Jason as we walked by classrooms on our way to the canteen. He's considered one of the many "popular guys" and have many fans AKA crushes in school.
I'm somehow always a target to these "fans" since I'm close friends with Jason. However, I simply do not care about childish pranks these people try to pull on me. When it happens, Jason would somehow just be within vicinity and save me from all these pranks.
He would snatch me away as he embrace me tightly in his warm hug, scolding all those people doing unnecessary actions to harm others. Honestly I feel safe and comforted to have such a nice friend, to the point I don't know if this should be considered normal friendship. Most of the time, I shake myself off these unnecessary thoughts and resume being good friends with him.
Now, I'm getting more and more confused as he seems to be alot more protective and affectionate than before. However, I do not intend to risk losing such a good friend by asking redundant questions that may possibly harm our relationship. I could only pretend my heart's job was still only to pump blood around my body, and nothing more.
I was afraid of losing him, forever. Until more confirmation, I did not intend to do anything out of the ordinary. We continued walking towards the canteen.
We bought our food and sat on the same table. As usual, I stole his food and made a funny face at him. He would attmpt to steal it back but would always fail. I laughed at his loss and would often compensate him by buying him a drink, as I felt bad about it.
We teased and fooled around during recess and sat down to play a game together, making lots of noise. We screamed and cheered everytime our game characters attempted to do something foolish. The bells rang and soon we had to head back to class.
We walked up the stairs as slowly as we could since we didn't like listening to the teacher teach at the next period either. Honestly, many of us do this and the teacher could only be kept waiting, getting frustrated as time passed.
"Kids! Can you please walk faster next time? You do know that we don't have much time left till the Finals..." He went on and talked about some things that kids our age wouldn't be interested in. We sighed and wished he would start teaching soon instead of rambling on useless stuff.
