The Hobgoblin raged within himself. He truly wished to be stronger than his current weak self…
He was devoured by his hatred and started foaming with blood.
There was a certain thing that one would need to know about beasts in general. That certain thing was that even the weakest race among beasts can evolve. The end of the line for evolution would differ for every race.
For example, a normal Kitsune with rank S can evolve into a higher grade of Kitsune with the rank SS. Its latent powers would rise tremendously, but, nothing would change appearance-wise.
Another kind of evolution would be for goblins. They evolve into Hobgoblins and get smarter, slimmer and faintly resemble Humans. Those Hobgoblins also evolve, but, there are different evolutions for it. One would be to become an Ogre, another is a Hobgoblin warrior, gaining the ability to further imitate Humans and their arts. They wouldn't be as good as real Humans, but, they could start learning drawing, sword arts with profound meaning, and many other things such as gaining intelligence equal to that of a normal Human…
There are many other options to evolve into, not just those two. There also are evolutions like ghouls or zombies.
An evolution happens when the beast has met the specific conditions to evolve from the line of evolution, like eating the flesh of one hundred Hearts to become a ghoul or being critically injured for one hundred days straight to become a zombie.
That is how it worked for beasts.
Humans didn't want to be left behind by the beast or be enslaved or even eaten by them. So, they worked in groups to defend themselves. After some time, a few humans created ways to feel the spiritual energy in the surroundings and even absorb a very small amount of it. That was the first step for the Humans to create cultivation manuals.
They created new ones based on this first manual. All had the same basic moves but would differentiate greatly in the latter stages. Not all manuals were good though. Some even killed their users because there were wrong descriptions in them on how to use the spiritual energy to get stronger.
The Humans were slowly improving their manuals for using the spiritual energy and found a way to absorb it into the body and strengthen it. They needed to do various things to get stronger after each breakthrough....
They also had quite a few realms, they named the stages for each breakthrough so, which had small stages in between.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to the Wolf and the Hobgoblin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hobgoblin was steadily absorbing the energy around him, growing stronger. The Wolf just looked on and wondered what happened when he felt his mind shaking and telling him something again. It said "Evolution".
He roughly understood what was happening. The original Hobgoblin was currently undergoing an evolution.
The trigger for it must have been the injuries it got from him and seeing its brothers die in front of him while being played around with, adding to its rage.
He waited for the Hobgoblin to finish its evolution.
The process took about 15 minutes when the energy around the evolved Hobgoblin created a small mist.
Another 45 minutes passing…
The wolf was slowly getting impatient when he finally saw the mist dissipating and revealing a big silhouette.
It was a very big and heavy muscled being with dark red skin.
He felt its aura. It was truly surprising!
Its aura was at least 5 times as strong!
Its injuries were also gone.
It looked at him like it finally met his nemesis after many many years. It charged towards his direction while picking up the club that was still lying around.
He couldn't even listen to his mind saying what he was up against when 'it' was already in front of him, swinging the club at him with its full strength.
He was too slow to dodge again and prepared himself for the impact.
Once again, before the club was a few centimeters away from hitting him, he quickly moved forwards to reduce the amount of impact. He knew that the Evolved Beast might have known that he would dodge it, but he counted on the chance that the Beast would think that he'd retread by falling back.
He jumped to its right side after recieving the hit and Slashed the beast with his claws. The Beast blocked his claw with the club. Or rather said, it tried to do that. The club was cut through like butter and burning like a never vanishing flame. His claw stopped glowing red after that.
He felt a bit exhausted and tired.
He decided to finish things fast without dragging them out again.
The club was thrown onto the ground after it caught fire and was reduced to ashes. The Beast shot a grim look at him.
He looked at it with cold eyes and moved again. He straightly ran to its back and saw it turn around. While it turned around, he jumped into the air and used his momentum to scratch the eyes of the Beast.
He landed and attacked again. He bit the left arm off this time.
He quickly created some distance between them to look what the Evolved Beast was trying to do after sensing some energy gatering around it.
The Beast screamed in agony and summoned a small fire shield around its remaining arm. The shield wasn't really long or intimidating. The shield radiated a heat strong enough to make the Wolf wary though.
He looked at the shield and felt that it was a weaker version of his claws when they were in their 'red color', and it was not used for slashing, but, instead, used for thrusting and blocking.
He currently didn't know how to activate his red claws. It was purely by accident last time. He couldn't let himself be catched by that shield. He waited for it to make its move first.
'It' rushed in a straight line at him, its shield raised and aiming at him.
He quickly jumped towards the Beast's right side and attempted to bite its shoulder. The bite suceeded since the Beast wasn't fast enough to move its shield to block the Bite, thus making it scream in agony again.
The Wolf didn't pity it as he knew more of its previous race. They were kidnapping weak Women and Men of different races to rape and reproduce themselves. They also wouldn't hesitate much in Killing others.
The Wolf didn't stop there though. It slashed at the Beasts chest quickly after his bite.
Its rib cage could be clearly seen, flesh open and blood oozing out.
The shield disappeared and the Beast fell onto the ground, making cries that one could't describe with words. It was a mix of rage, pain, sadness, helplessness and a few other feelings that were mixed in its cry.
The Wolf just looked at it coldly and said to its mind "You tried to lay an ambush first, I was just letting you reap your seeds." he finished the Beast after these words by slashing its heart with his still extended claws.
The being died and he decided to eat the corpses of the Beasts he killed after looking at its corpse a bit more to find out what it was.
His mind shook and he saw four words, Fire-element Ogre [Subspecies]
This subspecies could control fire to a certain degree and would have the possibility to further evolve into Fire-elemental lord. Those had precise control over fire. They weren't as good as dragons, but, they could easily control any fire that is around them and create it themselves just by manipulating their Fire attributed spiritual energy.
The Wolf ate the Corpses of the Fire-element Ogre, the Hobgoblin, and the 3 Goblins. He was barely full when he ate all of them. They weren't very tasty, but, he was hungry, so he didn't care much.
He confirmed his earlier assumptions by eating them. His body got strengthened greatly after he ate those 5 corpses. The corpse of the Ogre gave him the highest boost.
He decided that he'd check if the room was safe so as to go to Sleep and rest. It was a very long day and he had done many things.which tired him out.
After checking the room for 15 minutes, he found nothing that could be dangerous and just found another stone door.He wondered how many of those were here. He would look into it tomorrow he thought.
Thus, he went to sleep.
