Chapter 2: Higgs Boson

"Arghhhhhh I'm so late, holy fuck this is really not what was supposed to happen."

Several months earlier NASA's board of scientist had chosen Haruki to lead a group of scientist on a mission to find the existence and application of the Higgs Boson particle. This all due to his discovery in finding out the usage of dark energy and dark matter a subject that eluded scientist since the late 90's. Dark Matter makes up about sixty-nine percent of the universe its counterpart dark matter makes up about twenty-nine percent leaving about five percent left for the elements discovered on earth and around it. So as you can imagine the discovery on how to utilize such a vast amount of energy turned out to be the catalyst that provoked mass space exploration and with anything that is widely wanted but limited, understand that people are willing to kill for it.

Haruki rushes into an elevator and presses the button that leads to the basement. After a short moment the elevator door slides open revealing a long corridor, many doors line the walls. Haruki briskly makes his way into the locker room so that he may change into his protective gear ad orange jumpsuit, hardhat and goggles. After changing Haruki noticed that not even a single person from his team where here. On the way he had seen plenty of cleaning crews and other scientist who had duties in regards to the particle accelerator and its operations but not a single person from his team.

Haruki walked out of the break room in search of someone to inquire about his team's whereabouts, quickly spotting someone from the cleaning crew, he also wore an orange jumpsuit with goggles id card plastered onto his chest. Haruki interrupted his cleaning "Hey sorry there um, Jim right? Did you see anybody from my team?" slowly taking off his headphones, Jim had a strange look on his face as if he smelled something he didn't like slowly assessing Haruki in his head. "And who are you supposed to be?" Haruki's mouth hung low, "Dude I have been working here for a couple months now. The dark matter and & dark energy guy? there are a bunch of guys with names like that" "Yeah, whatever, no I haven't seen a single soul from your supposed team among the many teams that are already here." Haruki shook his head at Jim's sarcasm and walked towards the underground lift, Jim resumed sweeping the hallway. "Thanks anyway."

Haruki walks out of the underground lift into a well lit corridor, not a speck of dust could be seen floating through the air, due to the whole floor being cleaned spotless from top to bottom. In order to detect particles it's a must to shield your detection device from cosmic radiation and to do that you need to be at the least ten thousand feet underground. The duties of maintaining a particle accelerator is divided into many sections for safety purposes,a team would be required to run one safely. Haruki walks into the main control room and begins to flip the switches meant for turning on the particle accelerator in his head it didn't matter whether they were there or not, his research must go on.

Haruki's team were indeed not at the facility they were instead at the pentagon undergoing a briefing of a classified occurrence that was yet to occur.

.

While Haruki was keeping a close eye on his observations, witnessing and recording hundreds of explosions at a time. The pentagon were keeping close tabs on his every action, the observation room Haruki resided in was littered with cameras and wire taps. A plot was brewing to remove the only variant in a trillion dollar industry the discovery of the application of Dark Energy & Dark Matter. To reap the most benefits of such a situation where ninety-five percent of the universe's energy is at your disposable you must make one assurance and that's to kill the one who founded the exact method, in this way the government can lay claim to the discoveries in the name of advancing humanity.

A special officer by the name of Sam, was rewarding Haruki's team members for their hand and cooperation in eliminating Haruki Tatsuo, this was to add validity to his death especially if they are going to pass it off as an accident. When the public becomes informed of a fifteen year old prodigy dying an untimely death, even worse a fifteen year old prodigy who's discoveries ushered in a era of space exploration the publicity and investigations would be immense. Killing the whole team would not be a option but bribery for cooperation and silence definitely is.

Sam was dressed in a form fitting suit, navy blue with a black tie to accentuate it all, shiny shoes, the whole works. He was standing ramrod straight facing the team of scientist who were seated at a huge round table, this table was big enough to accommodate at the least twenty people. All the scientist where chattering to each other in small voices. Sam cleared his throat loudly enough to quiet the room down, everyone looked up startled, they had forgotten his presence because of their nervousness.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming I am sure you have your doubts in whether or not you have done the right thing, I have been appointed by the U.S government to assure you that for this small sacrifice the advancements of Dark Matter and Dark energy will greatly advance humanity on the path to space exploration and conglomeration. Sam walks over to the table pulls out a manila folder and slides it over to the scientist on the opposite side of the table. "This research compiled by Haruki Tatsuo is unimaginably insane, to harness ninety-five percent of the universe's energy and use it to propel our space ships? This alone is enough to earn us planets worth of land and resources! It would be a fallacy if we leave this in the hands of a fifteen year old kid, how could he possibly think of the greater good?

Thanks to your omissions we have deemed his character as irrational, forcing us to eliminate him and confiscate his research." Sam paused his speech and looked around the room to find terrified scientist looking back at him. "This is only known to those of us in this room, to the world at large this will be a very gruesome accident." Sam then pulls out a small device, pressing his thumb onto the device, a large screen descends from the roof clearly showing everything that is going on inside the control room of the particle accelerator, at this moment everything became deathly real. "I need to know right now whether or not everyone here fully understands the scope of their actions."

The atmosphere became heavy, you could almost feel the oxygen flowing through your body. In a world such as the U.S although violence is widespread, the average person has not experienced a murder neither is the average person involved in murders. Therefor killing someone is an absolutely foreign feeling and like most things that are foreign to human being we tend to fear it. It was with no surprise that the reality of their actions weigh heavy on their hearts.

Percy was one of the scientist on the team, he was chosen for his ability to discern particles, regardless of how many times they may break apart. "Look, agent Sam right? maybe there is another way, as you say the kid is only fifteen, he may be a bit impulsive but without him we wouldn't have discovered any of these things wouldn't it be better to have him work along side the U.S government and discover more things?" Alex who was the previous team leader had a ferocious expression on his face. "Percy, are you fucking kidding me right now? ten years! Ten whole years of research before this little shit comes along and takes my team, our peace prize, they even put him in charge of finding the Higgs, how can I not get rid of this thing?"

Sam was simply leisurely watching them argue, whether these group of people lived or died had nothing to do with him at all, he was simply following orders. In fact he even found the situation sort of comical, how Alex due to jealousy was not able to realize that he was plotting to kill a fifteen year old genius and how the U.S could even sanction something such as this in the name of money. Yes he found it funny, not surprising in the least, in his line of work this sort of arrangement had become commonplace. If a fly buzzed in your ear you kill it, if a roach invades your home you kill it.

Meanwhile Haruki was on his way to a disaster unknowingly...

"Having this place to myself is a bloody dream come true, I might as well make the most of it." At this point Haruki doesn't understand his predicament. There are clear reasons why a team of scientist is needed to run a particle accelerator. For one it is broken down into many parts that need varying levels of maintenance. A specialist is needed for just about anything regarding this piece of equipment even something as minor as cleaning. Haruki was a special case, to a certain extent he can monitor all functions of the particle accelerator and is somewhat knowledgeable on its structure making it so that he can make minor repairs and also identify when something goes wrong with the device itself.

Haruki was monitoring the constant collisions taking place in the particle accelerator pushing buttons here twisting knobs there, it was fascinating. Each and every particle was moving with incredible speed, in fact each particle was roughly traveling at the speed of light. Several controlled collisions were taking place in order to create a chain reaction known as the "big bang" the big bang itself in theory is a cycle of destruction and creation. Molecules and matter will collide and collapse in on themselves which spread these same parts into the universe sort of like pollination. Somewhere along the way life will be created, especially if the conditions are right. Each collision created minor force fields, this wasn't some light show Haruki was witnessing multiple universes being formed at the speed of light it was truly unfathomable it caused him to completely forget that he was here all alone and instead drove him to further delve into his work.

Looking into a monitor Haruki was typing his last observations trying to once again compile his information on the Higgs and its possible usage, during this episode of discovery he began to ramble."Yes, yes while utilizing dark matter is very good the Higgs is much more important to humanity as a whole, I just don't understand these people, like why the hell would I want to know more about dark matter? The thing can only hold the universe together rather than the Higgs Boson which creates it?" Haruki was shaking his head while tinkering with knobs and dials, "how did Grandpa Sun say it, seeing the tree but not the forest." "Haha that sounds about right."

*BANG- CRASH*

A loud noise broke Haruki out of his reverie he became startled and jumped out of his seat, falling right out of his chair. Imagine being absorbed into your favorite show, enjoying yourself to the fullest only to realize that your house was on fire at the best part of said show. Haruki's brain was scrambled and confused at this point. "What, the absolute fuck!" Blaring sounds began to emit from all around the facility alerting everyone that something was wrong. Malfunction, malfunction, malfunction constantly repeating, red lights began flashing everywhere. Haruki ran to the other side of the control room and pulled up a screen which had a detailed grid showing the complete status of each piece of equipment. The damaged part was highlighted a deep red, flashing incessantly, indicating that there was something lodged inside the accelerator.

"Ahhh something's wrong inside the accelerator? But how could that be? No one can go in that room without my or someone from the teams handprint. I'm absolutely sure the steel we use can protect itself from the particle explosions and radiation..." Haruki was distraught, "Damn it, I might as well go and fix this, I can't bloody pay for all this and I was so, so, so close." Even with all the blaring sounds and flashing red lights, even under intense stress Haruki still took the time to contemplate on the force field being created during the collisions, it was there at the top of his mind yet seemed to be slipping away with each passing second.

In the pentagon, Haruki's team were watching his movements on the screen, each fidgeting with nervousness. "Alex, do you even think we are doing the right thing here? I mean he isn't bad. Could be a prick sometimes but go figures he hasn't even really touched puberty yet."Alex looks at Tom a tall, pale and long haired middle aged man simply says to him with a solemn face, "N.A.S.A shouldn't have given my project to a fifteen year old kid, it's a fucking insult and in case you haven't noticed it's way too late go against this shit. That guy Sam isn't fucking around."

Tom began lower his head in shame, this was too much killing a fifteen year old who contributed greatly to society. They all knew that Alex was jealous and upset with Haruki but how could this be Harukis fault he clearly couldn't have chosen himself, this was the decision that N.A.S.A made. How could they with good conscience kill a fifteen year old, just because he was smarter than them? They watched as Haruki entered the Particle Accelerator.

At this time Haruki was drowning out the sound coming from the alarm with his headphones, bent over holding a flash light, inspecting the inside of the particle accelerator. "Now how is that possible? There is actually a test tube in there? Ha ha, so this is the trick huh, it's a little late in the game to haze me but I'm game, I'll fix this for the bigger picture... assholes." Haruki clearly thought that the missing team members were playing a prank on him. He lowers the upper half of his body sticks his arms and some of his chest into the accelerator, reaching to grasps the test tube which was just out of arms length. Haruki did not notice that as soon as his chest entered the accelerator the alarms stopped. The particle accelerator vibrated one time and then turned on as if the presence of Haruki and the test tube was not an obstruction.

As soon as the lights came on it was too late the particle accelerator itself was remotely turned on."What! Seriously what's going on that-" *BANG* This sound was heard to no one else but Haruki Tatsuo.

A super charged particle collided with the front of his face and at the same speed another super charged particle collided with back of his head. Each particle met in the middle of Haruki Tatsuo's head, he truly had a front row orchestra seat to the creation of the universe and the price for such a thing was death. Yet he didn't die immediately the effects of particle destruction on the human body has so far been untested. The reason why he is definitely dead is because who the hell can survive a laser colliding in your brain at light speed? In fact as far as Haruki Tatsuo was concerned he had completed what he had always wanted. For he had encountered the "God Particle."

When the God Particle collided in Haruki's brain a force field wrapped around his body preventing other molecules from approaching him, it was the same force field that appears each time a molecule collides whether its the Higgs or not. Visually nothing could be seen yet a phenomena was taking place. Gravity, Stars, Space, Time, Life, Death, everything was before his eyes. He watched as planets were created and then ravaged by time, he watched as species upon species of creatures form and die, great civilizations rising and falling. He watched as the sun exploded. He watched everything die and then his world turned blank.

Haruki Tatsuo at age fifteen, the youngest physics P.H.D and engineer who had found out the existence and theoretical uses of dark matter and dark energy was now dead, yet not before parting with an existence that could not be explain...
