"Quick, put her in a thermo room!" Someone ordered, I opened my eyes to be greeted by a dark light in an unfamiliar area.
A couple moments passed and I felt my back hit the surface of something cold and hard, pain spiked through my body again, shocking me awake properly and yelp as I adjusted to the stinging again.
"Can you tell me your name?" someone asked as they popped in my vision, held my eyes open and flashed a mini torch in them. I blinked away the black and white dots that flashed and travelled across my vision.
"JJ...." I mumbled.
"Ah, the other Rain kid, no?" the voice asked again.
"the other?" I repeated, I heard the voice chuckle as my back was raised up. An old man in doctors clothing, glasses and white hair was stood in front of me. He had a friendly smile that carried his wrinkles that just told me he'd been working in wherever I was, for quite a long time.
"Yes! I have tended your sisters injuries many times! And your father," he says as he pulls a chair to the side of my bed and sits down, "My name is Doctor Gray, nice to meet you, JJ."
He pushed his glasses up on his nose again and pointed to my legs.
"Were you always able to do this? Or was this the first time?" he asked, I looked to my legs to see them caught in a cast of ice.
"I've never been able to do anything like this before," I say, looking at the ice confused. He tapped it a couple times, it didn't crack or shatter.
"It's oddly strong for your first time," he says, standing back up and walking over to a table and grabbing something.
"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to melt it away," he reveals a flame thrower, I panic and shake my head.
"P-please don't," I whisper, my voice shaking uncontrollably.
"A fire trauma? Ok, we'll melt it with the room temperature. I hope you can deal with heat," he says throwing the flame thrower to the ground and then waving as he walked out.
The room started to warm up. I found myself burning up as well, my legs started to feel again, the ice was melting.
The ice had completely melted but the heat hadn't deceased, it kept increasing.
"...too ...h-hot," I gasp out, pushing myself off my bed and crawling to the doorway. I didn't get half way across the room before I found myself slumping to the ground. The door opened and the doctor returned into the room along with two men in black hoods.
"Take her to the boss," Dr Gray tells them, looking at my legs and then walking away. The two men grabbed me and carried me out of the boiled room and down a chillingly dark corridor until we reached two large wooden doors.
One of the men knocked, the doors swung open and I was placed on a chair. The doors closed and the chair moved further into the room.
"Hello JJ," a deep voice with a thick Scottish accent filled my ears. I looked up to see a chair behind a desk spin around, a man in his mid 40's sat forward and leaned on his desk, watching me with interest.
"Hello? Who are you?" I ask, my body had cooled down and I felt perfectly fine, only with exercise aches. He stood up and threw a blanket at me. I placed it on my legs and watched him carefully.
"My name is Karim Reino. JJ, your family have been close with mine for many years. Do you not recognise me?" Karim introduced himself, I didn't recognise him.
"I apologize, but..I don't recognise you at all," I sighed, looking away awkwardly.
Karim was tall with slick black hair, a muscly build and green glowing eyes.
"Can I ask why I'm here?" I asked him. He smiled and perched on my side of the desk, picking up a file at the same time.
"Shall I start with your family?" he asked, I nodded and he opened the file, on the first page was my father's and mother's faces, "as you can most obviously tell, this is your mother and father. Micheal and Michelle. Michelle wasn't gifted, but Micheal was. He was one of our strongest warriors actually."
"What is this gifted thing?" I asked him, stopping his explanation. He gave me an 'are you serious' kind of expression before sighing and explaining.
"Gifted is what we are. Everyone who is able to produce magic of some kind, from natural magic to corrupted natural magic. To spiritual and dark. Everything like that. I believe you abnormals call us supernaturals. Anyway, allow me to continue. Your father was a spiritual gifted, I believe he created reanimated puppets out of souls of the dead. His eyes were either purple or a dark blue, they were truly brilliant. Your mother, Michelle, she was the first human to not be terrified of the gifted. Actually, she welcomed us with a warm smile and allowed us to use her home to go to when we were in danger or we had been injured too much to go to an abnormals hospital," he speaks fondly of the side of my parents I didn't know.
"Both of them were permitted to marry by the gifted community because Michelle was such an asset to us for years. Now, come with me, I'll take you to your room. You can shower, change and then I'll have someone bring you to the dining hall for dinner. I'm sure you didn't eat anything earlier," Karim stood up and motioned for me to follow him. My uniform was barely in tact so I kept the blanket wrapped around me.
As we walked around the corridors I thought of a question.
"If you don't mind, can you tell me what I am?"
"That's simple. You're a gifted! But you're special! You've been frost bitten!" he exclaimed happily, "we have three of you now. Please become friends with the other two frost bitten gifted."
"Ok, thank you," I smile awkwardly as we reached a door. He opened it and sent me in before walking away again.
Karim Reino... why do I feel like I should remember that name?
