Preparing Our Future

As the time grew closer to my due date, I stopped working and was just at home cooking, cleaning, and waiting. Sinclair drew farther away from me, sometimes not coming home at night. Was it because I was pregnant? Was I not pretty enough for him? Late one night, I sat in bed looking at photos we'd taken together months ago, thinking about everything we accomplished; It made me smile. We were like a team that could do anything together, but we were at our weakest point when we were apart. I got out of bed, and I checked over my hospital bag, then I went to the kitchen and got the urge to bake. I started to bake cookies, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, and macaroons.

Suddenly I heard the front door open, and as I looked up, I saw Sinclair come around the corner. "Hey, honey… how was your day?" "Good, I'm going to shower." I watched as he walked up the stairs, and I sighed heavily as I quietly mumbled to myself. "Well, there goes that…again." I walked over to the couch while shoving a macaroon into my mouth. After a while, Sinclair came down, and I looked over at him as he looked into the kitchen and then at me. "You baked all this?" "Yeah, don't worry, I'll clean it." "Why did you bake it all?" "I was just in a baking mood. I know it's a lot. I'll take it to the orphanage tomorrow." He came over and laid down, pulling me into his arms, "Why don't I come with you tomorrow?" "You aren't too busy? You don't seem to have time for… extra things." "Okay, let's not be petty. I'm sorry I haven't been around much, baby, but it was for a good reason. You'll see tomorrow. I promise I have something spectacular to show you."

He kissed my head and smiled as I closed my eyes. The next morning, I woke up, and I slowly rolled over, finding him asleep. "Baby…." I kissed his neck and shook him. As he woke, I looked into his eyes. "Come on, baby. I want to get there early." He nodded and got up, then helped me up. We walked upstairs and started to get ready, "Babe, what did you have to show me." "It's not here, babe. You'll have to wait until we go to the orphanage." I smiled as we showered, then got dressed and headed out. Once we arrived at the orphanage, a few kids ran over to help take the goodies inside. We carried them into the kitchen, "Thank you, all my strong helpers. What would I do without you guys?" They giggled as I handed them all a treat then they ran off as Meredith entered the kitchen. "Octavia, oh, how wonderful it is to see you dear, and look at that belly ohh, you are ready to pop!" I laughed as she hugged me and then slowly pulled away. "It's so great to see you as well. I don't get out much." "Well, I'm glad you chose today to come out. The kids love seeing you."

She looked over at all the treats I bought, and she laughed. "I'm sure they will absolutely enjoy those." "Well, Meredith, it was nice seeing you, but I am taking Octavia to see that surprise I have been working on." "Ohhh, today!? That's great!" "What surprise?" They smiled at each other then she gently pushed me to the door. "Now, dear, that's for us to worry about. You go ahead and go with this fine gentleman." "Yes, ma'am." I hugged her once more before walking to the car with Sinclair. "So, who else knows about this secret?" "Hehe, everyone. I had a lot of help." He smiled at me before starting to drive down the street. As we headed out of the city, I looked around, then at him. "Where are we going?" "Just relax. We are almost there."

After a while, we pulled up at a huge modern house on a hill. It looked out on the city and was surrounded by roses. Looking around, I smiled in awe. "Wow, did you build this?" "Yeah, do you like it?" "Absolutely it will definitely be a great B&B." "Or our home…." "What…" I turned around and looked at him as he smiled. "Let's take a walk inside." He took my hand and gently pulled me inside. As we walked in, I looked around, amazed. There was black marble flooring with beautiful, freshly painted white walls. We walked through to the living room, which was nicely furnished with a huge flat screen tv on the wall. Previous sonogram pictures were framed and sitting on the mantel, along with pictures of Sinclair and I. "Sinclair…." "Don't say anything yet." We walked into the kitchen, where the walls were now a grey tile with stainless appliances. Everything looked moved in and ready, "We aren't done yet. Come on, baby." He tugged on my hand like a kid in the candy store.

We went up the long stairs case, and my smile grew increasingly as we made our way through the house. "Here will be the babies' room, and as they get older, they can switch." He opened the room to a big nursery with a red carpet and stuffed animals everywhere. There were two cribs on each side of the room and décor stickers on the wall. I couldn't help but start crying as he hugged me tightly. "We can finish decorating now that we know the genders of our babies." I teared up as we walked out and closed the door then he led me to the master's bedroom. We walked in, and the floor was black and gold marble, with the walls painted grey. The bed had black satin bedding, and I smiled, "Don't forget the master bath." I walked into the bathroom, and there was a massive walk-in shower. The countertop was granite, and the walls were grey, with a white marble floor. "This is beautiful! This is why you haven't been home." "I'm so sorry. I thought you didn't love me." "It's okay; this is our home. The guys are moving the stuff out of your house right now…...we are prepared, baby." I kissed him deeply and hard as we stood in our dream home. I couldn't do a thing but fall in love with him again.
