Disappointment

My life was finally what I wanted; I had the man of my dreams, two beautiful kids, and a fantastic place we could call home. Everything was nothing but perfect. This was the start of everything. I slowly woke up to Sinclair feeding Eli and Elena. I smiled at him tiredly, and I just watched him until he realized I was awake. "Hey baby girl, sleep well?" I nodded and smiled, "I slept perfectly. It would be best if you got some sleep. I can take it over from here." "No, babe, you just gave birth." "Sinclair...you have been up while I've been resting. I can take them, get some sleep, and if I need help, I'll wake you." He pouted at me, "We are a team, remember? I got it." He nodded and gently passed me the twins. Sitting up, I laid them in my arms. I smiled as I watched him get comfortable and then fall asleep quickly. I laid the twins on the bed before me and played with them.

"Hey, Mommy's angels, I love you two so much. Daddy and I are going to take care of you, I promise." I smiled as Eli grabbed my finger; leaning down, I kissed both of their heads. After a few hours, Sinclair slowly sat up, and I looked over at him. "Hey, sleepy head, feel better?" He nodded, and I giggled as I cradled the kids. "Mmm, they are gonna be so spoiled." I laughed and looked at him, "You think so?" "I don't think so. I know so. Mommy is already holding them so much." I laughed as he took them out of my arms and put them in their bassinets, then climbed in bed with me. "Mmmm, that's more I like it." I wrapped my arms around him as he lay on me and put his head on my chest. "Mommy can hold her big baby instead." "Of course, I can. I'll always hold you." I ran my fingers through his hair and kissed his head. "How do you feel?"

He looked up at me, and as he spoke, a small smile came across his face. "I feel...amazing, I feel like after everything, all the bad... I'm finally where I am supposed to be." His smile grew wider, and he leaned up, placing a soft yet deep kiss on my lips. "Mmm, I love you so much, baby." Sinclair smiled as he laid his head back on my chest. "I love you too, baby girl." We laid together in the bed for the next few hours until there was a knock on the door, and in walked the nurse. "Hello again, just here to check on the babies and make sure everything is okay."

We smiled at her as she did a quick check-up on Eli and Elena, then came over to us. "How are you feeling?" "I'm good, just exhausted." She smiled softly, "That is to be expected if anything changes anything, just press the call nurse button, and I'll be here in two seconds." I nodded, "Oh, I'll have security come in and stop anyone who tries to come in and bother my wife, so if you see them, just ignore them." She nodded and smiled again before walking out and closing the door. "Security? Is that necessary?" "Of course, baby, I don't want anyone to bother my babies or upsetting my wife. You all relax." I smiled to myself as he kept calling me his wife. Suddenly there was another knock at the door. Sinclair walked over and opened it.

"Oh, Meredith! How lovely to see you here!" "I'm sorry to pop up unexpectedly, but everyone is going on and on about how the babies are here, and I just wanted to bring a little something." I sat up and smiled as I heard her voice. She walked in with bag after bag after bag. "Woah, Ms. Meredith...hehe, they will be spoiled." She walked over to the bassinets, "Ohhh, these little angels deserve to be spoiled rotten! You look just like your daddy, little one!" Sinclair chuckled, and as he came over to hug me, there was another knock. "Come in!" The door came open to reveal our co-workers and friends from town, everyone carrying gifts and giving hugs to say congratulations. As I looked around at everyone, I started crying. This was my family. We were around for each other no matter what. I was ready to raise my babies in such a fantastic place.

It's been a week since we left the hospital, and I am bathing the babies. They cry and scream as the cold air hits their bodies, "Awe, I know, I know! Mommy is sorry!" I quickly wrapped them in a towel and gave them their binkies. "There we go, all clean, allllll clean." I giggled as I gently tickled them with my finger. I looked at the time and then back at them. "Where is Daddy? Where is Daddy?" Almost on cue, Sinclair came into our room laughing. "Are you ever going to stop being corny?" "Nope!" He smiled and kissed me softly before grabbing the twins. "How are my prince and princess doing?" "Great, they just finished their bath. They need a diaper and clothes on." I smiled as I watched him nod and instantly get them dressed. "Do you mind keeping them while I do laundry?" "Oh no, baby, not at all. Do your thing." I kissed him, then made my way to the laundry room.

I started loading the washing machine, and after a while, Sinclair came down to join me. "Hey, beautiful wife." "Wife? I'm sorry, sir, you have confused me with someone else." He laughed and hugged me tightly. "I don't think I do, love. How's laundry coming?" "Good. Are the twins asleep?" "Yeah, the guys wanted to come and bring some things for the twins. They thought it'd be better to visit them here rather than the hospital." "Great!" "Also… my parents are coming.." "What... Parents? Are you serious!?" He nodded, and I kissed him, then ran upstairs.

I raced to our room then I picked out my outfit before walking into the bathroom and getting in the shower. I finally get to meet his parents after wondering for so long. Sinclair and I have been together for a year, and I know nothing about his parents. I can't help but feel so excited. After my shower, I got dressed. I put on a long tight sundress and slides, then did my hair and makeup. I hear the doorbell then I hear all the guys come in. Grabbing the twins, I made my way downstairs to everyone.

We stood and talked as everyone took turns holding the twins. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Sinclair looked at the guys, and they nodded. "Hey, Octavia, why don't you show us the babies' room?" I nodded, and we went upstairs, "Oh wow, this is perfect!" I smiled at them as we walked in, and they looked around. I walked to the door, and they stopped me, "Where are you going?" "Someone is here. I wanted to go see who it is." "Don't bother with that…." I looked at them. Then I ran out of the room and down the stairs. "Wait!!" They chased me, and as I got to the bottom of the steps, one of the guys lifted me over the shoulder, and we laughed. "Hehe, let me go!!!!"

We slowly stopped as we heard Sinclair clear his throat, and he put me down. I looked over to see Sinclair's parents standing there, and I blushed. "Mr. and Mrs. Russell…" I walked over and held my hand out. His mother just stared at it, so I slowly pulled it away and I stood there awkwardly. "Mom, Dad, this is Octavia Locke… my girlfriend." I smiled at them, and his mom only looked me up and down. "It's nice to meet you, Ms. Locke." I smiled at his father as he grabbed my hand and kissed it. "You too, Mr. Russell!" "Oh, please call me James."

"She's…" I waited for her to finish her sentence, and as she spoke, Sinclair tried to stop her. "why don't we g-" "Black…." Her words hit me like a bullet. Was his mother racist? She stood there looking at me with a disgusted look. "I always pictured you to be with someone…different. Someone into law who could have something for you to relate to." "Mom…" "No, I'm just saying someone as successful as you should be with an equal." I looked at her as she talked about me like I was below them. I looked at Sinclair, waiting for him to say something, but nothing came. He stood there looking at the floor. Then slowly, he looked at her.

"Why don't we go see the twins?" She nodded, and the three of them walked to the stairs. "No…" They all stopped and turned, looking at me. "I don't want her near my kids…."
