Chapter 35- Faint Heat

Wu POV:

I could no longer hear the footsteps of the God so I moved my attention to the small figure that was embracing me currently.

How the heck did I get so lucky to have him hug me like this right now?

Earth lifted his head to me, looking me in the eyes. His blue, big and innocent eyes reflected the light coming from the headlight above us, making them look very seductive, and his full, pink lips were drawn into a smile, almost begging to be kissed.

"Are you trying to seduce me?"

Hearing my words, Earth's cheeks grew red but to my surprise, he kept eye contact and even tiptoed so he could whisper in my ear.

"And what if I am?"

His warm breath tickled my ear, making it numb.

Get it together, you! If you jump him now you'll have to deal with the God again!

Earth's bold behavior almost made me lose my cool, especially since it is so unusual for him to act like this, but when I looked at his face again, I noticed his smile wasn't really natural, it was forced and carried some sadness in it.

"Honey, you are acting weird. What's wrong?"

"I am not acting weird, I just love you."

The smile became even more unnatural, making me even more suspicious.

"But you are acting weird. If you can't trust me enough to tell me why, then we should probably break-up."

At my words, I heard Earth's heart skip a beat. I felt pain for making him that scared. I shouldn't cause my loved one pain and I know it is hard for him to open up, but for a relationship to work, it must have a foundation of trust.

"You can't break up with me, don't you love me?"

His voice shivered slightly and his eyes began reddening. Earth bit his lower lip, waiting for my response. His whole being screamed abandoned puppy.

"Don't be silly. I already told you once that I'll even die for you if needed, just because I love you so much."

His grip on my shirt tightened. I could hear Earth's heartbeats speed up slightly as his cheeks turned warmer and to a new shade of red.

"Just tell me what's going on, ok?"

Earth buried his head in my chest. I tightened my embrace around him, one of my hands holding his head closer, like in a motherly hug.

"In my old world, being anything but straight, is considered as something wrong, like a disease. Gays and others used to be accepted there in the old times, but it caused a huge decrease in the birthrate and eventually, a population depletion. After that, laws against gay and lesbian relationships were made, banning them. -"

The things Earth spoke of were unimaginable for me.

How can they ban someone from falling in love just because he is gay?

"-The god said Arafel, her shadow, was in love with me and was planning to confess before he died. To even consider that such things are true, is unthinkable, absurd in every way.... but, I can't help but to think it's a shame he never managed confess to me...."

I could feel my heart squeeze in jealousy at his words.

"Why is that? Are you in love with him?"

I once again heard Earth's heartbeats speed up, making my own heart squeeze even in more pain.

"So you do lov-"

"No, I did not and do not love him, not like that, not in the same way I love you."

"Then in what way?"

How can you tell me you didn't love him like that, when your heartbeats are this fast?

"...."

"Earth?"

"...."

"Honey?"

"...."

His heartbeats were very fast right now, too fast. I started panicking when I heard Earth speak in a meek voice.

"Wu...I don't feel so good...my head is spinning...I need to lay Dow-"

Before he completed his sentence, Earth's body went limp in my arms, his body growing hot in a fast pace. I went into a full blown panic as his body slipped through my grip and almost hit the wooden floor. I managed to catch him in time and hurriedly carried him to the bed, laying him on it carefully before texting Rush and Maya to come as fast as they could.

"Earth?! Earth! Can you hear me? Don't fall asleep, I don't know what you have!"

Earth was panting heavily, sweat drops trickling down his face and he was on the verge of losing consciousness. His eyes kept trying to close but I didn't let him to nod off while also repeatedly using [Cooldown] on him, trying to bring his body-heat down.

"Honey, you've got to stay awake until Maya is here, ok? Don't close your eyes!"

What the heck is going on?! He was fine just seconds ago!!!

The door suddenly bursted open, Maya and Rush barging in. Seeing the situation, Maya rushed to Earth's side and started using [Heal] no questions asked. After ten minutes of me using [Cooldown] and Maya healing Earth, his condition seemed to be stabilized and he was sleeping peacefully on the bed, his clothes soaked with his sweat.

"Maya, what the fuck is going on? He was fine a few minutes ago then suddenly, out of nowhere, he became like this. What is happening?"

I felt like I just lost a lifespan of a hundred years from all the worrying.

"I need to examine him but I can't do it with you here. Go downstairs with Rush and drink some tea to calm your nerves."

I knew there was no point in arguing with Maya. Once she is set on something, no one can change her mind, not even Rush. Rush grabbed my hand and dragged me outside the room and downstairs.
