Lunch (3)

The flashes came and went as a familiar face was seen and a familiar voice was heard. "Hey, are you sure this is a good place for lunch?" She smiled remembering her response, "Yes it is, what are you so scared of?" He said nothing just sat down while the food was served and she showed him how to eat the dish. He had a surprised look and soon his face started to turn red as the spice kicked in. The memory fade just as quickly as it had come as she finished the first golgappa. Jessica reached for another one as she listened to the two talk.

"So, you have school starting next week right?" John asked and Jian nodded as she reached for another ball. She then asked, "Wait, you graduated already meaning you don't have to go to high school right?" John nodded and explained, "I got to graduate early but because of that I will be working with my uncle starting this summer."

Jian nodded and she turned to Jessica asking her, "Mom, do you think I should try early graduation as well?" Jessica thought for a few seconds and answered, "That depends on what you want to do Jiji if you are interested in a full high school experience then no, but if you want to invest that amount of time on something else then you should go for early graduation. You should also know that there are courses online that might be quicker for you since you learn better on your own."

Jian took a few seconds to process the information she was just handed as Jessica suggested, "How about you finish middle school first then this summer we can plan about the 5 years after this year. This way you can decide if you want to go to college or do something else, yes?" Jian nodded happy with the response and they once again continued to eat. "Miss Kim, where do you work?" John asked out of the blue.

Jian's smile dropped as she turned to look at her mother. This is a question that she never really asked since her mother was always busy and had so many jobs throughout her life that Jian stopped caring at one point.

"Why do you ask John?" Jessica said holding a smile on her face. He smiled, "Nothing much just wondering, because you seem to know so much I thought you ran a restaurant or were a manager of some department." Jessica smiled, "I am neither, I work as an assistant at a law firm, it is a bit demanding type of work so I need to work on my time off sometimes."

He made an oh face filled with empathy at what she said. Jian and John continued their conversation as Jessica excused herself to take another call. Then once she returned they finished eating and left after payments were made. The two, mother and daughter, went back home and enjoyed a peaceful afternoon of doing nothing.
