Why?

...

"Thanks, bye," Jian said as she took the bag from John. He smiled walking away and she closed the doors behind her. "Mom, I am back," Jian said walking inside.

"Oh, did you eat already?" Jessica asked placing the wine bottle down. Jian nodded saying, "You're drinking." It was an observation, but it came out like a question. Jessica sighed saying, "Yes." She smiled at Jian, but something was off.

Jian sighed walking over gently asking, "Mom, is something bothering you?" Jessica looked away letting out a shaking breath. Jian frowned placing the bags on the table before sitting down in front of her mother sternly saying, "Mom, if there's something bothering you, you need to let me know, I can't guess what's on your mind."

"I know," Jessica said softly before taking a sip. She smiled at Jian saying, "You're probably carious about my recent behavior too. Jian, I think it's time to move. I know you love this city, and you have a lot going on right now, so I won't force you, but I think after the show we should move."

Jian frowned she was happy to have more time to spend, but she just made some good friends and now she's moving again, what about her new job, she liked modeling, plus what about her dream to start a business, why was her mother doing this now out of nowhere.

"Mom, can you at least tell me why we're moving?" Jian asked her tone cold; she was trying to process what she had just heard.

Jessica sighed saying, "This city, it is difficult to live here." She then met Jian's eyes saying, "I know, you like it here, so until I find a good place to move to, you enjoy yourself. I would like to know where you are at all times, so tell me honestly before going places."

She got up placing her arms around Jian, saying, "You're not a baby anymore Jiji. I know I can't keep shielding you, but I will be here as long as you need. You should live how you want to Jian, just please don't get hurt because it'll hurt me too."

Jian frowned pulling back her eyes watering as she asked, "What if how I want to live involves me living in this city?" Jessica looked down at Jian's expression, it was a mixture of sadness and hopefulness.

She took in a deep breath letting it out before saying, "I- Jian, we will continue this conversation another day."

Jessica let go pulling back grabbing the wine bottle before walking towards her room. She closed the door behind her as she slumped to the floor her back against the door. She covered her mouth with one had as she sobbed quietly, the bottle of wine on the floor next to her spilling.

...

Jian turned she looked at her mother's doors then at the bag, her eyes closed as the tears fell. She sat there silently as the tears didn't stop.

It wasn't her first time moving, it wasn't her first time leaving a group of people, but why does it hurt so much this time. Her thoughts continued to ramble as she got up taking the bag and tossing it in the corner of the room before hopping onto the bed crying, she let out many sobs as she cried into the pillow.
