Fever (3)

He tried to cheer her up, but she gave him a blank expression, he coughed saying, "I'll go check on the other patients, let us know if you need anything." He walked away quickly, and Catherin smiled.

"Hi, I have never seen Doctor Lawson that scared before, anyways, I have administered the IV fluids and in about half an hour I'll come back to check on her temp," she said as she wrote a few things on the nearby board.

She turned trying to reassure Jessica by saying, "The fever should be down by then since she has taken a Tylenol. However, if the temperature is the same or increases before time passes then she'll be given an intravenous ibuprofen. This is a liquid form of Ibuprofen that's most often used to reduce fevers. Please feel free to call me if anything happens before then."

Jessica nodded saying, "Thank you," as she walked over to Jian. She held her hand gently as Catherin walked out closing the door behind her.

Jessica closed her eyes taking in a deep breath letting it out slowly before saying, "Jiji, I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can hear me then please wake up soon, I am sorry I won't force you to move. We can stay here as long as you want, please just wake up, please don't leave me."

Jessica squeezed her hands gently before placing them down on the bed. She looked around finding a chair in the corner which she brought next to the bed. She sat down before pulling her phone out.

It was only 4:31 in the morning but she felt wide awake as she held onto Jian's hand. She opened up a picture she often looked at nowadays. She wore a simple skintight dress, and her short hair was parted to the side revealing a shiny necklace, and ruby earrings near those earrings was someone else. His head was buried on the crook of her neck, one arm was across her shoulder, the other on her waist.

There was a tattoo of a rose near his elbow on the arm that rested across her shoulder, and two dates were on either side of the rose. His other hand had a simple watch, she had gifted him for their first anniversary.

For her, it was an expensive purchase being a college student at that time living in a new city by herself. She had it custom-made to match his hazel eyes, and with brown straps to match her own eyes, yet it was nothing compared to the white gold necklace with 12 individual little rubies to make a rose pattern. The ruby earrings represent them two, and the necklace for their 12 months was made to form his favorite flower the rose which also became her favorite.

Jessica sighed turning the phone off as she reached for her necklace. It was the same one, but its shape was different there wasn't a rose on it anymore, it was just dozens of small rubies connected with white gold to hold her wedding ring.

She reached for the ring before her eyes glanced at Jian. She bit the inside of her lips as she closed her eyes, preventing the tears from escaping. She held the ring tightly she ignored the throbbing pain in her heart. She let out a shaky breath of air before letting go of the ring, taking in a soft breath and opening her eyes.

She turned to Jian as she laid her head down, she opened her phone again swiping to another picture. It was of Jian and someone else, he smiled posing next to a 6-year-old Jian, both in their hospital gowns, a cast on his left arm and Jian sleeping on the bed next to him.

She closed her eyes briefly before swiping as a video played. There was no audio, so she paused it before turning the volume up and replaying the video.
