"Mom"

Jessica didn't know she had fallen asleep till she felt a tapping sensation on her hand. She got up instantly, looking at Jian who held her eyes opened wide. She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out and Jessica glanced around the room, there was no water there.

"Wait, I will go get some water," she pecked Jian's hand placing it down softly before rushing out the room. She found the ice machine at the other hallway, and quickly grabbed two cups. Once filled with ice the other with water before walking back to their room.

"Excuse me you forgot this," she heard from behind her as someone offered her a phone. It was her phone. "Thank you," she said taking it quickly before rushing back to the room. The man frowned he felt the voice was familiar but before he could look at her, she had already turned the corner.

"Here, drink this slowly," Jessica said holding the cup to Jian who had managed to sit herself up somehow. After a few sips she reached for the cup drinking it by herself.

"Mom," Jian said her voice coarse, Jessica hummed as she placed the cup down. "I caused you to worry quiet a lot huh?" Jian asked in a teasing tone. She closed her eyes, grinning as she said, "Yes," she wrapped her arms around Jian, who responded by wrapping her unhooked arm around her.

"Jiji, you know what I said about moving, forget it, we'll stay here as long as you want," Jessica said softly and Jian looked up, her mother held a smile, but it wasn't one of pain or happiness, it was acceptance, of what she didn't know but she hoped she would soon.

"Wait mom, what time is it?" Jian asked noticing the obvious blue sky outside. Jessica smiled glancing at the clock saying, "It's 9 am, if you're worried about your finials then do not, I have rescheduled it for tomorrow afternoon."

Jian nodded her worries gone but as she pulled away from her mom, her stomach growled. Jessica smiled asking, "Do you want to go get breakfast?"

Jian nodded but glanced at the IV and Jessica smiled saying, "Don't worry we can get that off you," she pressed the call button and soon Maria walked inside.

She smiled noticing the water cup asking, "How are you feeling?" Jian glanced at Jessica before saying, "I am good, I wanted to know if I can take the IV out yet." Maria looked at the bag before saying, "You can, but first a few questions are you feeling any dizziness, or headaches?"

Jian nods her head saying, "I have a slight headache at the moment, but it's not severe." Maria nodded asking, "Any mild discomfort other than the headache, maybe confusion about where you are?"

Jian shook her head saying, "I am in a hospital right now, at a pretty high floor and next to my mother, on a Monday during school hours skipping finials."

Jessica smiled at Jian's response, maybe it was the hunger, but she was being quite sarcastic. "It's good to see you are lively, but don't be rude Jian," Jessica said her tone affectionate yet sterner and Maria smiled at her saying, "It's alright, she's the best patient on this floor so far. Now this might hurt a little."

She gently before taking the IV needle out. "Thank you, Maria, we're headed to the cafeteria to get some breakfast," Jessica said as she picked up her bag.

Maria nodded patching up Jian's hand saying, "No worries, oh and Jian reframe from eating overly unhealthy options, anything fried, undercooked, or caffeinated should be avoided so your fever doesn't return."

Jian nodded as she got off the bed saying, "Mom, can you wait a minute I am going to use the restroom." Jessica nodded as she picked her phone up looking at the numerous missed calls from her boss and sighed. She opened up the text before answering the call that came immediately after.
