I felt like someone had stolen my soul with unbearable pain. I couldn't and didn't want to believe the words that came out from father's mouth. I snatched my hand away from Damen's and ran inside. I herd my parents call my name, but I didn't dare look back. I pushed the door to my room and fell on my knees next to my bed, leaning against it, arms covering my face. I cried and cried. When I finally looked up, the reflection of my face against the mirror was very shaking. My eyes were swollen and bloodshot, my lips have gotten red from biting hit, my hair was stuck to my wet cheeks. I looked like a witch. I whimpered.
As time flew and full night occurred, I had fallen asleep from the tiredness of crying. Something or someone was in my room, but I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes because they burned. Sleeping with no interruptions seemed like the best idea. I could hear my surrounding and footsteps closed by and came to an abrupt stop. I was still on the floor. Who would come to my room so late? Whoever it was, it was really outrageous. I was terribly mad. With all my willpower I urged myself to open my eyes. Standing in front of me was the devil. A burst of anger boiled me.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" I roared. Damen made a motion on his lips with his finger that said: quiet down already! My hands dug deep in my mattress as I tried to stand up but my legs were wobbly and I fell back with an 'oof' forming my lips. Damen stood there, arms crossed, and a smile on face that showed he was enjoying this. Oh really! Well enjoy this! I kicked him with full force on his knee an he stumbled back a few inches. Damn it. When his eyes shot and met mine, I could see the burning fire in his eyes. He closed his eyes and let out a deep breath. Unlocking his eyes, he looked at me with pure hate but thank fate the fire was gone.
"Wha-what are you doing in my room?" I stuttered. His smile once again regained but it was all bad. He shrugged like all this was normal, as if he's been my best friend forever and that he was given access to my room. My teeth grind.
"Get out," I said the words in a low voice. He held my gaze for several heavy moments and then without a word he withdrew. Why is he awake at this hour? I stole a look at my clock. Two a.m. I climbed over my bed and squeezed my eyes shut.
The next morning I stayed put in my room until my mother had actually come in to get me.
"Marissa! My darling are you alright?" mother cried and circled her arms around shoulders and planted a kiss on my forehead. Most royal families woman wouldn't do what my mother just did just because that would ruin their reputation by making them have a side of caring. But my mother never did that to me or anyone of us. She loved us and didn't care what people thought of that. I
snuggled closer to my mother and a tear escaped my eye. She gasped and wiped it away.
"Now what ever is the matter, my dear?" she said, gently. I knew if I said something I would begin crying again, instead, I looked down at my hands. A mother like mine could always tell what's wrong by just looking at our face but she still asked to assure herself she was right.
"Damen," my voice croaked. She rubbed my back soothingly.
"Can we talk?" she asked softly. I nodded slowly. She brushed some of my hair away from my face.
"When your father had called this meeting with the Enigmars for an agreement, the accepted it but in return they wanted Sir Damen to be married to one of the daughters and I feared it was you but your father didn't hesitate at all because this was very important to him. He chose you.
" When this was announced the Enigmars had some conditions and oh Marissa we had no choice. Those were their exact words, 'A marriage to be held and a disagreement now or divorce leads to war'" as she said this, a tear trickled down from her eye.
