"A- a war? Just because we don't accept?" I whispered and gently with my thumb wiped mother's tears. She wouldn't look at me.
"Talk to me," I said.
"I'm sorry," was what she said. This was a lot harder on her and I knew she felt beyond guilty. I swallowed.
"When does the wedding take place?" I stammered.
"Tomorrow,"
That meant I only had until tomorrow to be with my family for the last time.
"Marissa? There she is," Ella muttered to Nora. They obviously heard the conversation because they were peeking .
"Come in, girls," mother gestured them in. Nora and Ella sat cross-legged at the end of my bed, worry painted all over their face. Ella nudged Nora lightly on her arm.
"We came in to see how you were doing," she said, her voice shook.
"And it seems not quiet well," Ella murmured.
"Girls, did you- did you hear about the Enigmars threat?" I glanced at them, searching for any signs to see if they had.
"Threat isn't the right word," mother corrected.
"Threat?" Nora's eyes widened.
"Nora!" mother scolded.
"Sorry," her eyes fell on her knees.
"What did they say?" Ella narrowed her eyes. Mother glanced at me, I turned away, not wanting to meet her sad eyes.
"A war takes place if Marissa doesn't get married," mother said. Ella broke into a laugh. We all glared at her.
"W-war?!" she laughed. Nora pinched her arm.
"Oww! That hurts," she complained. Nora raised her eyebrows.
"Thats why I did it," she said slowly, letting the words sink in. I couldn't stand this and I let out a small laugh. They all grinned at me, glad that I cheered up slightly. John isn't here I thought sadly.
"We have everything ready for tomorrow," said mother.
I exhaled. I brought my hands over my face. The twins and mother pulled me into a cuddle. I inhaled the lovely smell of my mother's perfume. Lavender. Her favorite.
"So, since this is our last day with our princess, how about we leave this emotional moment and head to our horses. This is our last chance!" Ella
squeaked. We all ended in laughter.
We were in the stables and setting up our saddles before we took off. Mother joined us too. Her horse had a faded yellow skin. She was lovely and is called Mareen. Ella and Nora had brown horses with different eye color.
Nora's horse has deep brown eyes and is named Pepper. Ella's horse has forest green eyes and is named Chèrie. Our horses ran along the glade. Mother leaded us to wherever she was off too and after a few more runs, I gasped. It was the waterfall. The place I always stumbled at when I was upset. We slide off our horses backs and tied them around the tree. The twins linked their arms with mine. When we found a safe spot, we sat. I rested on mother's shoulder, Nora next to me and Ella next to her twin. We sat in silence and everything at that moment was peaceful. The sun was glaring at the grass, the sky was blue with white clouds, so glorious to be real that it looked like a painting from a dream, far from anyone's imagination. Right here, as long as I was with the most important people in my life, I shoved away anything to do with Damen, the wedding and my future but I knew it would last only for today.
"Marisa," Nora said, breaking the silence.
"Uhmm?" I said.
"Do you want me to talk to father about all this?" she asked. My head snapped back to look at her.
"You could do that?!" I smiled. She gave a sad smile and the answer was clear: I want to do anything to finish this but father won't budge!
From behind Ella chuckled.
"All what we treasured dies today," mother said, her expression was blank and her eyes were still at the fall. She was right. It was me who they treasured the most than anything and I knew. Today leaves, tomorrow awaits. Tomorrow is when everything in my life changes. Forever...
