Chapter 44

They've been avoiding talking about this topic for the past weeks but Diya felt that they need to decide on what to do with their marriage.

Ajay stayed quiet and turned to look at the waves. A few minutes went by and Diya was getting anxious. She was determined to get an answer from him but at the same time, she was scared. She didn't know what she wants.

Sometimes she felt that it'll be better for them to separate but sometimes she didn't want them to. She wanted to live with him and continue to be his wife. But all the past fears stopped her from thinking clearly. So she was determined to get an answer from Ajay. Maybe then it'll be easier for her to decide.

Diya opened her mouth to call him but a loud sound in the sky stopped her. Her mouth dropped open at the spectacular fireworks display. They burst into the sky, filling it with color and light, and it was an incredible sight to see. "How pretty.". Then a rocket-like firework exploded into some words.

Diya was impressed when she read them. "Because I love you. Wow, What a beautiful way to propose. The girl would be so happy right now.". "I don't know. Are you?". Diya heard Ajay's question and was confused.

She showed her confusion still focusing on the exploding fireworks, "Why are you aski- wait.". Another firework exploded just as before and the same words appeared but this time there was another word at the end of the sentence. 'Because I love you, Diya.'. Diya's eyes widened in shock.

Ajay was already looking at her when she turned around to face him. "Remember that night in the study when you asked me why I agreed to marry you without expecting anything in return and why I'm letting you use me? I wasn't sure at that time Diya but now I know. It's because I love you.".

"You asked me what I want. It's you, Diya. I want you. I want this marriage to be real. Us, to be real. It took me some time to understand the feelings I had for you. But the incident two weeks ago made me realize it. I've never been that scared in my whole life, Diya.". Diya held her breath at their closeness. She was speechless by the way the night had changed.

Ajay looked into her eyes, "Don't blame me. 'Love' was something very new to me. But strangely, the moment I saw you in the cafe, I somehow knew that you were going to be someone very special to me and, I was right.".

"Are you kidding me?! Why are you even hesitating?". Diya was on the balcony; staring at the sky; again. Ajay gave her time to think. He said he will be fine with whatever she decides and there's no pressure. But she felt like she was going to burst from all the thoughts that had been running nonstop inside her head.

Kaia sighed, "Fine. I'm not going to tell you what to do. You're an adult and you know what's best for you. But I'll tell you something very important so listen carefully. Please don't ruin your life because of some what-ifs. This isn't your mother's life and you're not your mother. Keep it in my mind," with that she hung up.
