Chapter 4

"So where are you from?" Joy asked as we both pushed our way through the mass of other students.

"Minnesota" I replied as I tried to push past a student but I ended up stepping on his foot. I mouthed sorry to him but he gave me a hateful glare. Rude. "Where are you from?"

"Louisiana" she said as she pushed through the last crowd of people and then we were outside.

"All little far from home, don't you think?" I say as we walk down the front stairs.

"A little" she laughed. "This is my fourth year here. Everyone here is like my extended family."

I looked at Joys 'so called' family and frowned. If this were my family, I would not speak to them ever. End of story.

"Do you have any siblings here?" I asked Joy.

Joy smiled. "I have a twin brother. His name is Luka. Do you have siblings?"

I shook my head. "Only child."

Joy nodded as she turned to another building and I followed. When Sebastian said banquet hall, I thought it would be like a normal looking one with gross carpeting. Of course, I assumed wrong.

I stood at the top of a wide set of stairs that led to a ballroom that was filled with people sitting at tables. Joy led me down to a empty table towards the front.

"This school is strange" I say as I look around. There were student dressed in ridiculously fancy outfits. It looked like they just walked off a runway in Paris or Italy.

"It can be like that some time" Joy shrugged.

"I'll just have to get used to it then, won't I?" I sighed.

Joy never replied so I realized our conversation was over. I turned my attention to the people walking around. There were students sitting at tables with their parents and I was pretty sure I saw the Monopoly man.

"Hello, Ladies" said a voice behind me. I turned my head and saw a boy slide into the seat next to me.

"Hey Anthony" Joy said with a smile. The boy, Anthony, looked at me and that smiled. "That's Dawn."

"Hey" Anthony smile and his golden brown eyes lit up.

"Hey" I smiled back. Anthony was tall, and I mean tall. He looked like he had an inch or two on Sebastian. Anthony had stubble on his face.

"Have you seen the others yet?" Anthony asked as he looked at Joy."

"Not yet" She said. "They should be here soon though."

"Others?" I asked. Joy looked at me and smiled.

"Vincent and Jamie" she told me.

"Are they friends of yours?" I ask.

"We've known each other for many years" Anthony explained.

"Who's known who and for how long?" Asked a high pitched voice from behind Anthony.

I looked behind Anthony and saw a girl. Her pixie haircut was bright pink and it brought out her dark skin.

"Hey Jamie" Anthony muttered as he pulled Jamie down kissed her. Joy had to clear her throat to get them to stop. "What" Anthony groaned.

"Could you stop trying to eat each other for five minutes?" Joy begged.

"No" Jamie said as she kissed Anthony again. Jamie turned to me and held her hand out. "Hi! I'm Jamie!"

I smiled at her as I shook her hand. She was quite energetic. "I'm Dawn."

"I'm so excited to finally meet you!" Jamie squealed.

I hesitated and went with the first thing that popped into my head. "Same."

"Now we're waiting on Vincent now" Anthony said as he looked at the watch on his wrist. "He's late."

"He's always late" muttered Joy.

"The queen is never late" said a new voice. I looked behind Jamie and saw a boy who I assumed was Vincent. I looked like he was staring at me, but I couldn't tell because he was wearing sunglasses. "Everyone is just early."

"Drama queen" Anthony said as he stood and pulled Vincent into a bro hug.

"Well, since everyone's here" Joy clapped her hands. "Lets eat."
