I was dragged throughout the entire school in just an hour. We went to were all the classes would be held as well as the basement, the attic of the auditorium, and even on the roof. And just like Anthony promised, they showed me the fun stuff. Just about a mile from the school was a lake with a spectacular waterfall.
"We should camp here" Jamie said excitingly.
"Alright" Anthony promised as he kissed the top of Jamie's head.
"Are they always that intimate?" I whispered to Joy.
"It will get worse" Joy warned me.
"Is it to late to back out of this friendship?" I chuckled along with Joy.
"What's so funny?" Asked Anthony with a confused look on his face. "Oh look, he comes Vincent."
I turned to see Vince strutting down the trail towards us. He still looked sickly as the sun shined on his white flesh. His sunglasses covered his eyes still but there was a little color in his face, but not much.
"Hey" Vincent said as stopped in front of us. "What did I miss?"
"We plan on camping here this weekend" Jamie explained.
"Sounds fun" Vince laughed and to me, it sounded musical. "What to you plan on doing now."
"We are going to the Rec Room" Joy said. "I challenged Dawn here to game of pool."
"And I said you will lose horribly" I taunted back. No one knew, but I used to play for money. So I'm good.
"Well, shall we" Anthony said as he led the way.
The Rec Room was located in the basement if the dorm. Students were down there either watching television, playing games, or just plain talking. Joy led me down to an empty pool table and handed me a cue.
"Thanks" I said as I took the wooden stick. I set the stick aside and started to set to the balls up.
"Five dollars on Joy" Anthony said as he fished the money out of his pockets.
"Well, five dollars on Dawn" Vincent said as he also grabbed some money out of his jeans.
"Your on" Anthony said as he snatched the money hand handed it to Jamie. "Hold the bet money Babe."
"Are you guys done?" Joy said as she placed her hand on her hip and the boys nodded.
"You can break" I told Joy.
"Good" she said as she laid the white ball down and took her shot. All the balls moved but none went into the pockets. "Damn."
"You might as well put your stick back" I sat as I lean on the table and take my shot. Number 10 went in. "Because this games over."
One by one I hit ball after ball into varies pockets. As I was playing a group of people crowded around me to try to get a glimpse of what I was doing. Not soon after, I hit the 8 ball into the corner pocket and I won the game.
"Dang it Dawn" Anthony laughed as Jamie handed Vincent the money.
"Thanks" Vincent said as he pocketed the money.
"Alright" Joy said as I laid my cue on the table. "How did you do that?"
"Angles" I told her and she looked amazed. "Plus a lot of practice."
"Show me" Joy squealed.
I nod and grab two balls and laid them down. "Are you good at math? Like trigonometry?"
"Nope" she popped the P.
"Well then you have to judge by the angles, then" I said as I handed her a pool cue. "Lean over and aim. To the right a bit. To far! Slowly...stop. Now try."
Joy hit the ball at the right angle and it went into a hole in the opposite side of the table. Cheers broke out through out the room.
"Thanks, maybe next time I'll beat you" Joy said as she playfully punch my arm.
"Maybe" I smiled. "Where's the restroom?"
"Down that hall and to the left. Want me to show you?" Joy asked.
"I'll manage" I say as I as I walk down the hall Joy told me. When I reach the woman's bathroom I locked the door behind me and sighed. They were nice people, but I felt as if they were suffocating me. I just needed to be alone for a while.
I walked around the clean bathroom thinking about everything that happened in the past day. Meeting Sebastian in an alleyway in the middle of the night caused me to go to another state, and now I'm hiding from people who want to be my friends. They didn't deserve that, they were only trying to be nice.
But where has being nice gotten me? Kicked out and disowned by my parents. Foster care was a joke to me ever since my foster parents did some things to me that I rather not recall. I realize that I've been in the bathroom for well over five minutes and that any minute Joy and the rest of them might break down the door looking for me.
I take a deep breath and unlock the door. The moment I stepped out I crash into something hard and I land on the floor.
"Oomph" I say as my butt gets real friendly with the floor.
"You okay?" I looked up and saw a boy staring down as me.
"Yeah, I enjoy being on the dirty ground" I say sarcastically as I try to stand but I failed at first but then he held out his hand to me. "Thanks."
"No problem" he says. When I'm on my feet I get a better look at him. His almost white blond hair was falling in his sky blue eyes and it was a little long in the back. "I'm Shawn."
"Dawn. Hey that rhymes" I said. For a second I thought that his smile faltered when I said my name, but I think that was my imagination.
"Well Dawn" Shawn said. "Do you need to go to the nurse?"
"I'm fine. I've been in worse shape" I tell him.
"Well I like your shape" he said and then he looked conflicted that he said that. "Sorry."
"That's okay" I laugh slightly.
"Let's start over" Shawn chuckles and holds out his hand. "Hi, I'm Shawn."
"Dawn" I smile.
"Well Dawn, may I offer to get you a lemonade as an apology for making you fall" he offered me.
"Sure" I told him and he led me over to a line of vending machine.
Shawn punches the numbers and then hands me my drink. He then does the same thing and then he has a bag of peanuts in his hands.
"What some" he asked after he tossed a few in his mouth.
"Can't, I'm allergic" I say then he nods and puts the bag in his pocket.
"So, what have you been up to?" He asks.
"I was playing pool with some friends" I said. "I probably should go back and find them."
"Well I don't want to keep you" said Shawn.
"Well, see you around" I say.
"Bye" he smirks before turning around and then was out of view.
