Rescue Mission (2)

Oscar made it to his ship and found that the cargo that had previously occupied much of the ships space was no longer there. While he was with the commander the scientists and the soldiers must have taken out all the equipment and supplies and had moved it to wherever it needed to go.

He could see technicians working both inside and outside of his ship, ensuring that no significant damage occurred during the last mission. He was very thankful for this because he knew he had pushed his craft past its standard capabilities and he had worried that he might have damaged his engines as a result.

Oscar first walked up to a technician and asked what the status of his ship and to his relief, the shipped had not received any significant damage and the engines were working at 100% efficiency. He was worried about the condition of a ship and he had grown very fond of the bird.

Oscar finished talking with the technician about the condition of the ship. He was about to enter his ship when he heard a familiar voice, it was the voice of Lieutenant Santiago, the leader of the soldiers who were on the dropship during the previous mission.

"We seem to be your passengers again for this Mission Oscar" the old grunt said while smiling.

It seemed that Oscar had gained the old soldiers respect. Oscar proved himself and his flying abilities during the previous Mission when facing the Icillian fighters.Lieutenant Santiago was aware that the only reason he and his men were still alive was thanks to Oscars flying.

With a smile Oscar welcomed the Lieutenant back to his ship and they walked in together with his soldiers following closely behind.

Oscar wasn't as nervous this time as he was during the first mission. Having Commander Harris in his ship while he was flying had made him much more anxious and now that he was not flying Commander Harris, he was much more relaxed.

"Everyone strap in." Oscar began "We will fly for approximately 15 minutes before we get to the crash site".

As he was taking off, commander's Harrison's voice come on over the radio.

"Oscar I trust your piloting skills so make sure you get this done. The research material must be recovered and get our people home safely. Good luck."

With those final words Oscar took off and headed for the crash site.

...

Commander Harris stood staring over the holographic projection of the city. Thanks to modern technology and sensor imaging, the projection showed not just the city but also troop movements. He could see the crash site, as well as the soldiers protecting it.

"How is the situation above planet going?"

Commander Harris turned to the nearest officer, waiting for a response.

"The Federation forces are keeping the Icillian fleet from over running the planet. However that is only because the Icillian have not sent all their ships to engage our forces."

Commander Harris couldn't understand why the Icillians didn't just send their entire fleet to wipe out their ships. With their overwhelming numbers, his small defence fleet and the remaining fleet from the previous engagement would be certainly destroyed.

"How much longer till the planet is evacuated?"

"All that's left is retreating the current forces deployed around the city. Everywhere else has been evacuated"

The commander stood their silently, thinking about various matters. He needed Oscar to secure the research material and return quickly. Once he returned, the Federation will completely abandon the planet.

...

Oscar had to fly low and fast to ensure he wouldn't be shot down by some anti air defence system. He was followed by two of the smaller and much more maneuverable dropships.

The dropship caring the research material and scientists crashed in a small park square. There was enough of a clearing for him and the other dropships to land and load all the survivors.

Oscar quickly landed his ship and lowered his cargo bay doors. He quickly left his pilot seat and headed for the back. Lieutenant Santiago was there waiting for him.

Lieutenant Santiago's grunts were already holding their rifles and waiting for orders from the commander. Oscar and the lieutenant walked out together where they were greeted by another soldier also a lieutenant.

looking around also could see a small group of regular civilians all cowering together fear in their eyes. right beside the group he saw the crash dropship. Oscar turned to the waiting lieutenant and began to speak.

"the name is Oscar and I'm here to get you guys out of here" he began.

"The names lieutenant Perez"

The Lieutenant was obviously weary, exhaustion could be seen on his sweaty face.

"I appreciate you guys coming to pick us up. We won't be able to hold this position for much longer."

Oscar gave a nod and turned his attention towards Lieutenant Santiago, who had been patiently waiting.

"lieutenant get your men to the crashed ship and remove any research material first. Once you've completed that let's get the wounded and civilians on board"

Lieutenant Santiago give a quick nod and turn to a stroop's. He beacon parking orders and the soldiers quickly moved.

Oscar turned back towards Lieutenant Perez and continue talking with him.

"Did any of the pilots or scientist survived the crash"

The lieutenant shook his head. With a sign Oscar nodded his understanding.

Lieutenant Santiago and his men quickly loaded the research material onto his ship and securely stored it. Together him an Oscar walked towards the group of civilians. as he stood in front of the group he felt a sense of sadness come over him as thoughts of his family came into his mind. He did not know if his family made it to the capital or if they are lying dead somewhere out in the middle of the city. He could only hope for the best.

"listen up everyone" Oscar yelled over the crowed. "We are getting you out of here. Pleasefollow the directions given to you by Lieutenant Santiago and we will have you on a ship leaving the planet in an hour.

With those words he gave Lieutenant Santiago command over the civilians and turned around. Ashe was about to walk away however familiar voice called out to him. At first he thought that he had imagined it, but then the voice came out again this time much clearer.

"Oscar!"

Oscar quickly turned around he was greeted by a trio of familiar faces. It was his family. He quickly ran over and hugged his mother, father and sister, relief washing over him. His family was safe and by his side.

Oscar took his family and put them in one of the rooms in his ship, while lieutenant Santiago continued moving the other civilians in an orderly faction towards the dropship.

He wanted to stay and talk with his family, to know how they got here and what happened to them, but he knew that the mission needed to be completed first.

Forcing himself to leave his family, Oscar headed for the cargo bay, where lieutenant Santiago was herding the civilians in.

Oscar stood there watching the situation. The injured soldiers were also placed in his ship. He saw soldiers bandaged up, bring helped by other less injured soldiers. The whole seen made Oscar's stomach turn. War was a disgusting thing and he wished this could just end.

However, he knew that this was just the beginning, and the fighting was only going to get worse from this point on.

A few minutes later, everyone was on board and Oscar lifted off. The other smaller dropships also took off and followed him. This rescue mission was over and it was time to leave.
