Cerulean City
On the way to Mt. Moon, Ash battled some trainers on Route 3. After defeating all the trainers in one move with Bulbasaur, Ash went to the Poke Mart back in Pewter City to buy some Pokeballs. After coming back to Route 3, Ash searched around and caught a Jigglypuff and a Sandshrew before he continued heading towards the entrance of Mt. Moon
"Give me a second to sort out my party before we continue," Ash said to Brock and Misty as he ran inside the Mt. Moon Pokemon Center by himself and bought a Magikarp before he headed towards the PC. After sorting out his Pokemon, Ash left the Pokemon Center and headed towards the entrance of the cave
Inside Mt. Moon, Ash fought some more trainers and easily defeated them with Bulbasaur before searching around for some more Pokemon. After successfully catching a Zubat, Geodude, Paras and Clefairy, Ash encountered a Moon Stone in which he used to evolve Clefairy into Clefable. During his journey along with Brock and Misty, they encountered some Team Rocket Grunts which Ash defeated by himself

"Hmm, there are a lot of Team Rocket Grunts around here. Could they be after a Fossil?" Ash thought as he continued walking through the cave. After reaching near the end of the cave, Ash encountered a Scientist who thought that Ash wanted to steal his Fossil. After Ash defeated the scientist and sorted out the misunderstanding, he offered Ash one of the two Fossils he had on him. Seeing the two Fossils namely the Dome and Helix Fossils, Ash picked the Dome Fossil without any hesitation
Suddenly, the Team Rocket trio appear out of the ground and shouts "Prepare for trouble! And make it double! To protect the world from devastation! To unite all peoples within our nation! To denounce the evils of truth and love! To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie! James! Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light! Surrender now, or prepare to fight! Meowth! That's right!" as they make their grand entrance and send out their Pokemon
"What?! A talking Meowth?! Brock and the Scientist shout in unison, Without saying a word, Ash sent out Pikachu and sent them flying out the exit of Mt. Moon with one Thundershock. "Amazing..." the scientist said in awe as Ash easily defeated the Trio in one attack
"Oh its nothing, I encounter them quite often. Team Rocket's goal is to steal Pokemon and sell them at high prices in order to strike it rich." Ash said to Brock who turned to Misty as she nodded
"Oh right, we're going to leave now, are you going to keep staying here?" Ash asked the scientist. "Yea, I want to see if I can discover more Fossils and maybe even find the Legendary Moon Stone which is said to increase the power of Pokemon!" the scientist replied
Hearing the second half of the sentence, Ash and his friends sweat slightly before saying their farewells and headed towards Cerulean City

After exiting Mt. Moon, the trio arrived at Route 4. Ash ran off on his own to catch an Ekans before returning to the duo who waited for him, then the trio headed towards Cerulean City. On the way there, Misty suddenly says that she won't join them then leaves on her own. Brock asks "Hey Ash, do you know why she's leaving us now?". "Oh it's supposed to be a secret but Misty is actually the Cerulean City Gym Leader. Of course, she doesn't know that I already knew about it." Ash replied
"What?! How did you find out about that?! Only us Gym leaders or the people that have challenged them, know about his" Brock said in shock as he held his chin to think. "Ah about that, I learned it from somewhere but I don't remember where exactly. No matter, let's enter Cerulean City now!" Ash said as the duo continued their journey
Once they arrived in Cerulean City, Officer Jenny stops the duo and accuses them of a crime. "What? A crime? We just got here! This is our first time in Cerulean City!" Brock says. "Oh? Really now, that's something a criminal would say!" Officer Jenny replied
"Ugh! What would it take for you to believe us! Brock shouts in frustration... After a while, Officer Jenny lets the two of them go. Ash then went to the Cerulean City Gym to challenge Misty's 3 sisters for the Cascade Badge
Inside the Gym, the three sisters were performing. Seeing a sudden challenger, the trio wanted to give Ash the Cascade Badge without a fight. Refusing the accept the badge, Misty appears from the entrance and battles Ash in their place

"Misty, are you sure about this?" Brock shouted. "I'm sure, though I know that I will lose, I won't give up without a fight!" Misty replied as she sent out her Goldeen. In response, Ash sent out Bulbasaur which instantly defeated Goldeen with just one Vine Whip. Misty then sends out her Staryu only for it to meet the same fate as her Goldeen
"Arg, I can't even land a single hit on Bulbasaur!" Misty said as she sent out her Starmie. This time Bulbasaur didn't defeat it in one hit with Vine Whip as Starmie also had the move Recover. "Starmie! Use Water Pulse!" Misty shouted. "Bulbasaur! Dodge and use Tackle then use Vine Whip to grab it and fling it away." Ash said
"Dodge it Starmie!" Misty shouted, however it was too late. Bang!* Starmie is sent flying away then Bulbasaur which had been trained to be extremely fast just like Gardenia's Turtwig in the Sinnoh region, caught up and hit it with Tackle then jumped back as it had defeated Starmie
"Thank you, Starmie!" Misty said as she returned it into her Pokeball. Misty then presents Ash the Cascade Badge in which he places into the Badge Case he had bought earlier. After Misty had a chat with her three sisters she joined the duo to continue their journey
