10 years later

I woke suddenly from the vivid dream. My lungs on fire as if I had truly been gasped for my life. My body covered in sweat and tears clung to my eyes as I woke up to my bedroom and not the soft grass of the forest.

"What the hell was that.." I trailed off as I struggled to sit up and tried to gather my composure. "My head..." I grumbled as a finally managed to get my butt up and out of bed to walk towards the bathroom. I tripped lightly on the mound of clothes by the door. "Son of a" I sighed and continued to stumble towards my destination. I flipped the light on and reached the sink.

My brown eyes flashed when I looked at my tan skin and long uncontrollable auburn hair fell into the middle of my back. "You need to get a grip Helena.." I said looking at my reflection. I decided that instead of trying to go back to sleep I would take a refreshing shower and start getting ready for the long boring day.

I grabbed everything I needed and happend to catch the tail end of the hot water that my building was notoriously know for having an extreme little. I sighed when the water turned ice and grabbed the towel with resentment. I walked past the mirror briskly not wanting to catch sight of my hideous scars on my back and grabbed the least disheveled clothes from my mountain of unfolded yet clean clothes. I turned on pandora and listened to the radio as I grabbed my bag once I finished dressing and made my breakfast, my roommate Selena who was almost never home, always had left overs for me to eat. "I really need to thank her" I mumbled to myself as I grabbed the bag marked "Helena Eat Me!" It was sushi from our favorite restuarant and next door to the bar where Selena was a bar tender. I began eating it as I opened my old but reliable laptop to read some fanfics and updated manga.

"I should also check my email" I muttered as I was clicking through the thousands of tabs that never seemed to actually close. I sighed when I saw the college application for the school I wanted to go to was denied. "Damn." I muttered utterly annoyed but quickly moved on. I checked the time, annoyed once more that it was finally time for me to go to school.

I wrote a note telling Selena bye, and that I owed her one Haven Burger which hopefully if Selena came home should let her smile for just a bit.

I began to trudge onwards to the schools bus stop and waited there. A few people who go to the school showed up at the bus stop. I was listening to pandora. The bus finally came and I made my way towards the back. Unfortunately our bus driver is a maniac who doesn't like to wait for us to sit down. So of course I ended up spilt into some random dudes lap.

"I'm sorry." I mumbled, trying to regain some of my broken dignity. I looked up to see a strange boy I had never seen before. His hazel eyes met mine and my heart stopped. My dreams came flooding back. It was like lightening electrocuted my body. I jumped up quickly and took in his face. His jaw was subtle but there. His hair was light brown, his skin was tan and he smelt like the forest in my dreams.

"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice strong, steady and the one from my dream. My lungs filled with air once more and I felt my body stir alive again as I barely manage a nod.

I slowly like a snail crawled to the back and played my music louder trying to drown out the whispers and laughter that clings to my soul. I sat by myself in the empty seat and could feel all eyes on me. I lowered my head and covered my eyes with my hoodie trying to let the driving of the wanna be race car driver calm me down.

My breaths were slowing down by the time we picked up the next bunch of miserable teenagers trying to figure out life, when I looked up to see who was getting on the bus next, strange boy was staring at me. I instantly felt the need to run away but had no where to go. Our eyes met and I couldn't look away, there was a burning in them. Something dark, no, dangerous was in their shadows. I could feel the tugging into my soul. My breath became short again, my body a live wire of exploding anxiousness, fear and adrenaline wanting to surge when someone a pretty black haired chick by the name of Lacey distracted him. The moment his eyes were off of me I sunk into the surface of the torn leather bus seat and kept eyes dow. the rest of the way to school.

Getting off was a challenge, the strange boy had not moved until the bus driver, he and I were the last ones on the bus. Like a runner, which I was nowhere close to being, I took off like the bullet out the gun. He, being like a panther, tried to corner me but luckily the bus driver didnt have time for the shenanigans of two high schoolers.

"Hey will you two get off the damn bus!" He screamed. My eyes met the strange boys and I found humored content in those dangerous orbs.

"After you." His voice rang out. My heart started beating rapidly, my spine tingling. The blood rushed to my face as he looked me up and down. "You going to go?" He asked, his voice delicate, his words wrapped around my head like twine.

"Oh um..yeah." I stuttered out, trying to calculate the danger of actually walking past this undeniably strange man.

"Hurry up!" Screamed the bus driver taking out the worry of anything other than get the hell off the bus. I walked past him and outside to the gloomy reality of high school life. My feet carried me away from the dangers of the bus rather quickly, my locker welcomed me with its full but important tasks and books needed for class.

"Helena." I heard from the end of the hallway. I sighed, I suddenly contemplated the thought of slamming the locker and booking it as if the devil himself was on my ass.

"What do you want?" I said with resentment. My eyes were flashing dangerously with anger.

"Hey baby." The arrogant prick named Cane said. His brown eyes were trying to search mine as his hand reached out to touch me.

"Cane. You and I are over. So no more of this hey baby bullshit." I said with spite. Taking a step back out of reach of his touch. "You were abusive, a cheater, and a fucking liar." I said voice full of my justifiable rage.

"Dont push it." He whispered, grabbing me trying to pull me to him.

"Hey."

Shit I thought as I turned to look at who was stupid enough to butt into this situation.

The boy from the bus appeared like thin air, his arm wrapped around me effortlessly pulled me not only away from Cane but into his chest.

"Hands off." He grumbled, his heart beating steady but seemed to pulse with the tension in his body. I could feel the daggers digging into the back of my head.

"Who the fuck is this guy Helena?" Canes grinding voice asked. I looked up to the boy holding me and his eyes were on me. I searched his eyes wondering the exact same question.

"Who are you?" I whispered, the grin that broke out on the boys face was worth whatever Karmic retaliation was about to happen.

"I am Mark and it's my job to protect this little fox." My eyes widened. In the moment the dreams that were never real to me came running back. Before I could stop myself I spoke the name of my dreams.

"Marax."
