"Shall we,"
With those two words, their marriage started. Mina's hands shook as she stood in front of the official and said I do. When he produced a simple, elegant wedding ring she gasped. She had expected an extravagant looking ring that fits with his families status. He smiled at her reaction as he removed her old engagement ring and replaced it with his.
She had never liked the ring Ben gave her. A large stone almost engulfed her small fingers and the band was one size too big. She knew he hadn't taken the time to pick the ring for her. It proved to her he never really knew her.
Soon, she was married and leaving the courthouse. Daniel was waiting by the car as they approached. He held the door open for her. Mina looked at her new husband unsure of what to do. Should she get in first? or should she allow him to?
"Shall we go to lunch? There is much to discuss," he asked with a smile as he motioned for her to get in first. Mina smiled back before stepping into the car. The cool leather interior felt nice against her heated skin.
"What would you like to eat?" Aiden asked as Daniel started the car and set off.
"Anything is fine," she said politely.
"Ok. Daniel head to Sal's,"
Daniel nodded and Mina turned to him with a curious look. He chuckled at her look.
"Sal is a close friend of mine, he owns a small cafe that I frequent. His desserts are amazing," Mina smiled and nodded.
Mina and Aiden sat in a small alcove at the back of the cafe, when questioned Aiden had said it was harder to see him from the window.
"You must have a lot of people after you. I am sure there are better people more suited for you to marry than me. Why choose me?" she asked curiously. Aiden sighed before giving her a small smile.
"I am not sure what you mean by more suited, but the women that come after me only want my money and name. They don't actually care about me. Being a Danvers in this town is an instant key into most places as well as a limitless bank account. I'm not saying that to brag or anything but just so you understand."
"I do," she said. She had experienced something similar years before. Aiden nodded.
"I could never be with a woman that chased me or just so happened to bump into me frequently. That's why I was happy to consider Tanya, the woman my grandmother had chosen. She seemed to be close enough in family status to me and have less of an interest in my name and money than other people. However, I have a feeling that both my grandmother and I had been misled about her."
"Daniel informed me that last night after leaving a small dinner with my grandmother she instantly went clubbing. My grandmother had given her an early wedding gift, a credit card tied to our families account. In the space of one night, she spent much more than I would have expected. Her family were wealthy and it seemed as if she was responsible. Turns out it was just because her family had been very strict with her in terms of her spending."
Mina nodded as she sipped her latte, the hot liquid soothed her.
"You said before that you wanted our relationship to remain between the three of us correct? You, me and my grandmother. Well, I should say four as Daniel knows as well," he asked with a smile.
Mina smiled, thought a moment and nodded.
"Yes, Ben can make things very difficult, for me mainly. He would be too afraid to do anything against you."
Aiden gave a small laugh that made Mina smile. His laugh suited him but she suspected not many got to hear it.
"Because of him I left everything, he was the one that controlled everything. I don't want to return to my family in shame. My parents are proud and I know they will welcome me back but it will be a long time before they will trust my judgement again."
"We are married now, how should we sort the living arrangements. I can't have my wife living with another man," he looked like he was playfully scolding her.
"You don't have to worry about that, I don't live with Ben. The plan was to move in together after we were married. I currently live alone using an inheritance to pay my rent," she explained.
"Good. May I make a suggestion?" Mina nodded and leaned forward eagerly.
"Tell Ben that you have moved houses and that it was originally meant to be a surprise wedding gift. Tell him that you had bought a new, bigger home for you both. He doesn't have access to your bank accounts does he?" Mina shook her head.
"Then he won't doubt that you bought a house. I will send movers to collect your things and you will move in with me." She thought it over before nodding, she hoped it would work.
"But what if he wants to come over to see me? He would do that before, not as frequently as he used to but still." Aiden gave her a wiry look.
"You don't have to worry about that. I live in a gated home. No one is allowed in without permission and not even family. I've had a few issues with people claiming they are family. They have even produced a photo of me and them to prove it. It is most likely photoshopped or one they have asked me to pose for."
Mina nodded as she thought over what he said.
"I must also ask for one more thing. Though I don't doubt that this will be an issue but as my wife, I ask that you don't allow another man to touch you." Aiden looked at her intently so she knew he was serious. Mina gave him a small smile.
"You definitely don't have to worry about that. Ben and I haven't been intimate in a long time. I can't even remember the last time he held my hand," she told him.
Aiden nodded as the food was placed in front of them and they ate in silence. After they finished Daniel informed them that the movers were already at her apartment. Mina looked at Aiden in surprise who simply smiled at her.
In the car, Mina's phone started ringing. She sighed when she saw who was calling, Lola.
'Yes,' she answered curtly.
'Mr Kramer has asked if you can come to see him in his office. You know to discuss the next date for your wedding,' Lola's fake cheery voice grated on her nerves.
'Tell him I will come in a few hours as I am a little busy.' She hung up not giving Lola a chance to speak or argue. Aiden gave her a curious look.
"Ben wants me to come to see him at his office after he jilted me. I can't believe I am only now just seeing how selfish and self-centred he is. He and Lola are well suited," Mina didn't have the energy to be angry at him.
Daniel announced they had arrived at her apartment. Mina and Ben got out.
"I have a meeting with my grandmother so I am going to leave you here with Daniel. He will make sure everything goes smoothly, feel free to boss him about. I will explain the situation to my grandmother and if she is ok with everything we will set up a time to meet. Is that ok?" he asked. Mina nodded and Aiden took her hand, giving it a small kiss before getting into the driver's seat and leaving.
Mina followed Daniel inside, the movers were already busy packing everything up. To be fair they were almost done, it wasn't like she had many possessions, to begin with.
"Why don't you go and get changed before they start packing your clothes away," Daniel suggested. Mina looked down and almost blushed brighter than a tomato. She had completely forgotten she was still in her wedding dress. Which meant she had gone to lunch wearing this. Thankfully it could be argued that it was simply a white dress.
It stopped just below her knees and had a small delicate lace pattern just under the bust. Her shoulders were bare apart from a small pearl drop necklace that had belonged to her late grandmother. It was the only possession she had that she prized.
When she exited the bedroom in a pair of comfy black jeans and a white of the shoulder jumper the movers were done. All they had to do was now the bedroom. Mina was glad that only the female movers handled her clothes. She would have been mortified if this big, burly men touched her underwear.
Daniel ordered a car to take them to her new home. Mina gasped as the car pulled up next to a smaller than she imagined home. It had an old victorian style look to the outside. The surrounding area was lined with a beautiful garden with rows of flowers and a fountain. Trees ran around the edge of the property creating a secluded feel.
Inside was a mixture of modern features with an old-style feel. Mina felt instantly relaxed and at home. It was like Aiden had read her mind long before he ever met her. Whenever she pictured her dream home, one in which she would raise a family, this was almost exactly what she had pictured.
"Go ahead and explore, I will instruct the movers where to put the boxes and you can decide where things will go." Daniel was about to leave when Mina stopped him.
"Would Aiden be ok with that? he strikes me as a man that has a set place for everything," Daniel gave her a rare small smile.
"Mrs Danvers, this is your home now. Mr Danvers has instructed that you can re-arrange and re-organise to make yourself feel at home." Mina's surprise was evident as Daniel left her.
Several hours later and everything was packed away and in its new place. Mina asked Daniel to take her to La'Beauty, her ex's business. She asked if he could wait for her outside, she was unsure if she could as he was Aiden's assistant not hers.
"Of course Mrs Danvers, I am at your disposal today. Tomorrow I will look into hiring an assistant for you so you don't feel uncomfortable with me," he told her with a smile.
"No! I'm not uncomfortable with you, I just ...." Mina said quickly before stopping. Daniel seemed to understand what she was trying to say.
"It's just that you don't what to affect my work for Mr Danvers," Mina nodded blushing a little. He smiled and walked to the doors of the building to hold it open for her and then returned to the car once she was inside.
Many greeted her politely as she made her way to Ben's office. A few knew who she was most didn't. Lola wasn't at her desk when she arrived then she heard a giggle coming from inside his office. Mina was tempted to just burst through the door and catch them in the act but that would spoil the game.
Instead, she reached over and pressed the intercom button.
"What!" Ben yelled back through.
"Ben? Are you free? Lola isn't at her desk so I wasn't sure if you had a meeting,"
Mina could hear a few muffled words and a lot of movement before the door opened and Lola appeared.
"I'm sorry Miss Mina, I should have been here to greet you. I was going over some work with Mr Kramer," she said with an obviously fake smile. Mina nodded pretending to accept her excuse as she walked inside.
Ben came around his desk to give her a hug as she walked in, he actually looked apologetic.
"I'm so sorry Mina for today, an important meeting arose unexpectantly and I couldn't cancel. I hope you understand," his voice sounded just as fake as Lolas had earlier. Mina smiled and nodded causing Ben to smile wider.
"Did you pick another date?" he asked as he went to sit back down. She took one of the chairs in front of his desk as Lola came in with a drink for them both.
"No I haven't," she said. Ben stared at her in shock.
"Why not? Don't you want to marry me anymore?" He asked as he looked at her with what Mina could now tell was a fake hurt look. Lola's face looked slightly shocked but Mina could see a hint of happiness in her eyes.
Prior to coming up to his office Mina had swapped her rings back so as not to arouse suspicion.
"Of course I do, but the next dates available are a year away. They said that it would be better to book a date again in a few months," Mina had never been good at lying but now that she knew the truth about the pair in front of her it seemed easier.
Ben nodded accepting what she said and she inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh ok, well that's ok we can wait another year or so. How about I come over for dinner tonight?" he asked as Lola left with a not so hidden smirk on her face. Mina stood and started leaving.
"Tonight won't be good," she told him as she left. He followed her outside his office.
"What! Why? Are you upset with me for missing it? I told you why, I thought you understood," he asked.
"Oh, I do, of course. However, I had organised a surprise for after the ceremony. A new home. One we would live in after we were married. The movers have already moved all of my things, so it's not ready to entertain guests."
"What?" he asked clearly shocked.
"Yes, I wanted to get you a wedding gift and I know you complained about how cramped my old place was."
"Where is it?"
