I waved, to signal her. She had a bright smile on, probably could have made the sun itself, envious. "Good Afternoon, let me just start of with, you look beautiful" "Thank you" she smiled and giggled a bit. " I'm sorry, we had this thing at work so we had to come in all fancy like" "oh I get it, no need to explain" I lied, I didn't get it. "What kind of work is it that you do Miss Keen" I asked trying to find out why she's always in a rush. "How did you know, oh my name tag is still on, silly me" she took a breather and suggested "mind if we start again, I feel like if this was a date we'd be getting no where, you know" she laughed. "Sure why not, hi my name is Blake, and before you ask, yes it sounds like drake but no, I cannot sing" "oh Okay, well neither do I haha, my name is Emma Keen" "Well Emma, you have a beautiful name" "Thank you Mr..." "Just Blake I don't have a second name" "Oh, that's weird" "indeed, but it's different and I guess that's kind of good right?" "Right" she replied, with a bit if scepticism. "By the way, are you by any chance Thee Emma Keen, the one that got first page news about some hero?" "Well yes I am, thank you for noticing".
The lunch dinner seemed to be going really well. So later that day she ended up giving me her number and she had this look in her eye like she was looking forward to a call.
*[Day of the End]*
I could feel something ominous in the air, it was as if I was in that cave again. A sense of worry and trouble kept nagging on my senses but, I was more focused on what my heart had to say, you see in all of my immortality I have never felt this way about a human. It was just blood, blood, blood, oh and also blood. My life had been a prison, I was free to do whatever I wanted but yet I was still at the mercy of blood. Until she came along, I feel a sense of freedom, I feel kind of human again. I had thought that, one needed to be human to feel love but I guess I was wrong.
On my way to the coffee shop, the sky was grey, it might rain I thought to myself. I kept feeling like someone was watching me, but each time I'd look back there was nobody, no prying eyes or anything of the sort. I thought that maybe this feeling is effecting my senses since I was feeling a bit vulnerable. I continued walking, eventually joining the cue for some good old fashioned milkshake. I think I'll try the bubblegum flavour this time.
As I got to the counter I could feel everyone's gaze locked onto me, it was as if my true form had appeared and everyone had a stake in their hands. I could feel my body getting ready to either attack or flee. At that exact moment she appeared behind me, and with a simple good morning every strange feeling subsided until all that was left was the desire to see her smile one more time, to see those eyes light up when coffee arrived. Just being around her made me weak but honestly, I had never been more happier to be alive.
"What are you ordering today?" She asked out of curiosity. "Milkshake, you?" "Same as always, you know those shakes will rot your teeth right?" "Well you gotta take chances, live in the dangerous side of life a little" "hahaa" "seriously don't you want to look back and say that you lived rather than dying and regretting it all" "yeah sure I'd probably die from over work before something dangerous gets to me" she said looking down and depressed while hiding it with a small smile. "Hmmm what do you mean" I ask trying to figure out a way to brighten up her mood. We took our seats in my favorite booth. The sky just seemed to get gloomier but I refused to leave the day without seeing her smile just once. "Well, are you gonna tell me or do I have to share my milkshake to get some input in the life of Emma Keen" I look at her sarcastically. "Maybe" she replied with a slight smile. "Fine, here have a sip" "you sure, do you want some of my coffee" "sure why not". I took a sip of her coffee and let me tell you, I had never tasted something so revolting that I actually felt like cutting off my own tongue to get the bitter taste out. "How is it?" She asked. How is it? It tasted worse than piss, not that I ever tasted it of course but if I did, it would taste a lot better than this. "Ow a bit strong but still pretty good" I lied my ass off. When I looked at my milkshake cup, I was shocked nearly half of it was gone. Did she just drink half of it and call that a sip, wait... does that mean I have to drink half of this shit... what did I get myself into. Come on suck it up and drink it you can do it. Nope, no sorry I can't. I look over to her "so can I have my shake back" I said sarcastically. "Ow gosh I totally forgot about it, I'm so sorry here" she passes me my drink back. She stirs her cup of coffee just before tasting it. "Yuck, I didn't even put sugar in it how silly of me". I looked at her as she put cubes of sugar inside her cup as elegantly as possible and stirred it as if she never just try to just kill me. I felt as if my own tongue were swearing the hell out of me for putting it threw that shit.
But, just before I could utter a word, the room began to rumble, the lights began to flicker. The entire city began to shake the ground slowly opening up, glass from tall buildings came crashing down, and the first thought through my mind was, maybe some more of that ice cream would get rid of this heinous bitter taste in my mouth.
