It was dead silent inside the car. She doesn't know how to start explaining herself. She didn't dare look at him and fixated her view on the window.
Her past actions infuriate him. He drives attentively and was in deep thought when suddenly he heard a rumbling sound. The sound is coming from Sammie's stomach. She did not have dinner yet and barely eat lunch.
"Om my God! I wanna disappear. Is the situation not awkward enough? Why do you have to act up now and embarrass me?" She thought while touching her tummy.
He continues driving as if he didn't hear anything. She was relieved when he didn't make any reaction and thought that he might not heard it at all. After twenty minutes he park his car in front of an Italian restaurant.
"Follow me." He instructed as he step out of his car.
"hmm" she nodded then follow him inside.
Inside the restaurant there were few customers and many tables were vacant but he chose the one at the far end side. This made Sammie nervous and confused. "Is he going to treat me for dinner before he kicks me out of the company? I'm dead." She pondered to herself.
When they were seated a waiter approached them and hand over the menus.
"President Lee, it's been a long time since you last visit." The waiter greeted him with a smile. He nodded back at him.
Sammie reached out for the menu but didn't dare looked it. She is restless and her heart beats faster that a speeding horse. She was indeed nervous and can't properly think.
Seeing that she doesn't have any intention check the menu he then looked at the waiter and ordered for them.
"Give us two order of Italian Sausage & Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta for here, an orange juice for her. Also for take away one Pepper Ricotta Primavera." Then he handed the menu back to him.
Although panicky Sammie was stunned that he already ordered for her. "He is extremely bossy. He ordered for me without asking If I like it… Oh well, in my case I'm not to whine after all." She timidly thought.
When the waiter left President Lee took out his phone. [I ordered pasta for you from your favorite Italian restaurant. I'll bring it to you later.] then puts the phone down on the table after he sent the message to his sister.
He sits back, crossed his arms while coldly staring at her. This makes Sammie tensed and uncomfortable. She doesn't wanna caught his eyes so she either look down and appreciate the restaurant's ambiances.
While looking at her he remembers his conversation with Mr. Kim in the hotel when they were in Singapore. He then thought that he is just checking on girl but now he understands why he kept saying that she looks familiar.
When the waiter came back he placed the two plate of pasta on the table. "Enjoy your meal." Then he left. President Lee started eating while Sammie hesitates to pick up the fork.
"Start eating I don't have much time." He prompted her.
Upon hearing his arrogant tone, she picks up the fork and started devouring her food. Seeing how she gobbles the pasta President Lee furrowed his brows.
"Are you that hungry?" he mockingly asked her.
When she heard him asking she paused for a few seconds then shook her head. Tensed up she didn't realize that she was eating like a pig in order to finish the meal quickly.
"Miss Saavedra, You've been working in the company for how long now?" he calmly questioned her.
Sammie timidly looked at him then swallowed her food before she responds. "More than three years' sir." She stutters.
"Three years. So you are very much aware what I hate most. right?" he asked arrogantly while eating.
"I…I am sorry sir. I didn't lie to you though" she lowered her voice.
"You did not lie?" he sarcastically probed her.
"Oh that's it. I'm about to lose my job. I can't tell him the truth but I can't lie either. What should I do?" she thought while innocently tapping her fingers on the table. She took a deep breath then looked at him.
"President Lee, I apologize for my actions last time. I honestly didn't lie to you. I just didn't tell you it's me. I know that is not an excuse. I just …" she paused for a moment.
"You just what?" his annoyed with her alibi.
"I just thought that since you didn't recognize me might as well pretend that I don't know you. Besides I don't want to disturb you while you are on a business trip." She lowered her head and bite his lips praying that he will believe her reason.
President Lee furrowed his brow "is she blaming me for not recognizing her? That's absurd!" he pondered.
"Miss Saavedra, how do you think I will recognize you with that look?" still annoyed.
"President Lee, this has always been my look. I'm not a morning person so whenever I report to work I prefer a simple hairstyle and make up to save time and not be late." She made it an excuse. Although she is indeed a night owl. She can't tell him that she intended made herself look that way to enter his company.
He somewhat understands her since his sister Rebecca would normally take a long time picking her clothes and doing her make up. But he is not convinced. "There is a different story behind this." he thought.
"Miss Saavedra, do you think I will buy your excuse. We bumped into each other more than once. You have plenty of opportunity to tell me. And besides pretending is a form of lying." He responded coldly then waved at the waiter to their bill.
The truth hits her so she couldn't respond. She remained quiet until he settled the bill. He then stands up and walks towards the front door. She followed him outside.
"Mr. President, I'm sorry for what I did. I will face all the consequence of my actions. Please forgive me." She piteously speaks while lowering her head.
"You better be sorry." It sounded like a threat. He then heads back to his car and drove off.
