Unplanned Overtime

When Grandpa Ben falls asleep Rebecca looked at his brother. He is uncomfortable in his position while working on his laptop.

"Brother. You can return to the office or go home. I can take care of grandpa." he is very busy these past few days and she wants a proper rest for him.

"Are you sure?" he looks at her with uncertainty in his face.

"Yes I am. You will just get a backache if you continue working there." She worriedly reminded him.

"Okay. I'll head back to the office first. If there is anything you need call me." He turned his laptop off and heads toward the door.

It was rush hour when he left the hospital so the traffic is starting to build up.

Sammie was eager to finish at least half of her work load so she worked overtime. When the clock ticks five her colleagues started leaving work one after the other. She intended to stay for at least two hours before heading home.

President Lee arrived the company at past 6 in the evening and went straight to his office and started working.

Sammie lost track of time. Too absorbed with her work, she unknowingly removed her buns and let her locks falls down her shoulders. She massaged her neck and started stretching her arms. She walks towards the restroom when suddenly her phone beeps. She opens the message from Cathy.

[where are you? Kyle called me. He is looking for you.]

[I'm in the office doing overtime. Don't tell him. I'm going home] she then pressed send button. "Fortunately, I have the changed the lock

yesterday." She sighs in relief. She looked at her watch and its already past eight in the evening. She then heads back to her table then switched off the computer. After fixing her bag and she walks towards the elevator.

Inside the President's office. Martin's phone rings. He nervously picks up the call from Rebecca.

"Hello, Becca. Is there anything wrong?"

"No. I will just ask you to bring me clothes tomorrow when you visit grandpa. I already told Nanny Mhing to prepare it. "

"Do you want me to bring you dinner?

"No need. I'm full. I'll hang up now. Don't forget to eat dinner. Bye!"

After the call he decided to head back home and bring food to her sister. He turned the computer off then walks towards the door then switch the lights off. On his way towards the elevator the office floor is already dark except the corridor. When he is near the elevator someone bump into him.

"Ouch!" she exclaimed while rubbing his forehead. She looked up to see the person in front of her. She suddenly froze when she recognized his face. It was the person she wanted to avoid.

Upon seeing her face, President Lee was reminded of the girl she bumped into in Singapore. He was looking at her when she realized that her face turned pale as if she sees a ghost.

"Are you alright?" he worriedly asked.

Hearing his voice Sammie was snap back to reality. "Yes President Lee I am fine. Sorry I didn't see you." she lowered her head avoiding his eyes. She was still wearing her eyeglasses but her hair was loose and not in the usual hair buns.

"Miss Saavedra? I didn't recognize you. Overtime?" he responded while still figuring her out.

"Yes sir. I just came back from a holiday so I have loads of work to do."

"Where did you spent your holiday? He curiously asked

She was stunned for a bit, she regretted saying that now he might realize that it was her. "Out of the country." She replies still avoiding eye contact with him. Then the elevator door opens. They step inside. It was a complete silence.

When the elevator reached the Ground floor she steps out then face him "Goodbye Sir." And he nodded.

Sammie fetch a taxi and heads back to her Condo.

In the basement inside his car Martin is suddenly reminded of the girl he bumped into in Singapore because of Miss Saavedra. "Their build and hair looks similar. Was it just a coincidence?" He shook her head and drove off.

When he drove past the buildings entrance she saw Sammie again but this time she is no longer wearing her eye glasses. He stepped on the break and looked at his rear view mirror. The area was somewhat dark but she was holding her phone and it lit her face. He was taken aback. "It was her!" he exclaimed.

Sammie was busy browsing her phone when a car stops in front of her. Thinking it was her ride she instantly opens the passenger door and steps inside.

"Sir, kindly bring me to Summerset Residence instead of West Rivercrest Condominium, thanks" Cathy's apartment is near her place so she decided to drop by before heading home. She doesn't want to see Kyle in case he is waiting for her there.

"Excuse me?" startled by the familiar voice she glanced at the driver's seat and saw the person sitting next to him.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry. I booked a ride home. It's my mistake I didn't check the plate number. Sorry!" before she can open the door she heard a clicking sound. The door was locked.

"Miss Saavedra, I think you owe me an explanation, don't you?" he said with his usual coldness

Shocked by his question Sammie didn't utter any word. She lowered her head blamed herself for doing overtime, for carelessly removing her buns and eyeglasses. "I'm doomed!" she thought.

"Put your seat belt on" his voice is infuriating. she obediently fastened her seat belt and didn't dare ask anything. Then he drove off.
