Sammie sits on her chair and stared at the contract on her hand. She read it repeatedly until her eyes sore. "How could he make such ridiculous demands. As if I made a huge mistake. Did I made him lost Millions or Billions of dollars. It's unbelievable. Being jobless is better than this." She complained as she buried her face on the contract.
She was in that situation when her phone beeps. [Are you busy tonight?] the message came from Kyle. She looked sullen. "What does he want again?" she murmured. [I need to overtime.] she replied.
Her phone beeps again [take care on your way home] she didn't respond after reading his message instead she continued working.
Sammie left the office with gloomy expression. She doesn't want to go home but not in the mood to party nor drink. She took out her phone and made a call.
"Hello where are you?" she contacts Cathy.
"Restaurant. Making final touches for tomorrows soft opening. Wanna come over?" she sensed something is wrong considering her tone.
"See you there." She ended the call then book her ride.
When she arrived at the restaurant she saw Cathy busy in the kitchen while Mizzy is testing the *POS machine. She greeted Mizzy then went inside the kitchen.
"You're here. Have you had dinner?" she asked while placing the fresh vegetables inside the fridge.
"Not yet. What do you have?" she said while checking the pots on the stove.
"I made chicken pot pie and your favorite carbonara. Go outside and have a seat. I'll bring out the food. Don't forget to call Mizzy." She gently pushed her out of the kitchen.
Sammie called Mizzy for dinner and they chose a table to seat on. "I'm starving." Mizzy said while rubber her stomach.
"Me too. I barely eat at lunch." Sammie pouted her lips.
They heard a sound coming the door chime. They looked at the door's direction at the same time. When the door opened a man's figure appeared. Mizzy stands up and approach to stop him "Sorry sir. We are not open yet… Oh, It's you" Mizzy recognize the person in front of her and she was surprised.
When Sammie saw the person she is talking to she was surprised. It's too late to run and hide since the man is practically in front of her.
"Sammie, you are here. I thought you have an overtime?" he said in a surprised look.
"I finished early. What are you doing here? We're not open for business yet." She casually asked him.
"I'm looking for Cathy. Business matters. I didn't expect to see you here." He charmingly smiled at her.
Sammie froze for a few seconds. That charming smile once captured her heart but it's different now it doesn't affect her anymore.
"We are making some very late preparation for our soft opening tomorrow." Mizzy said nicely. She hated and blamed Kyle before but after learning the truth she no longer hold any grudges.
"I see. Congratulations to you three!" he then looked at Sammie "Do you need any help?" he asked
Before Sammie could answer him Cathy walks towards them holding a big tray full of food. "Dinner is ready. Let's eat!" she proudly said. She then noticed Kyle looking at Sammie. "Kyle, you're here."
"Yes. regarding the business . We talked about it over the phone last time." he reminded Cathy.
"Ah yes. I remember. About the proposal I need to discuss it to them yet. Wait, have you had dinner. Want to join us?" Cathy kindly invites him as she placed the food on the table.
"If it's not too much then I won't refuse." He politely accepted her offer.
Sammie want to butt in and stop him but was too late. She felt betrayed by her own friends. Although she can't blame then since before they part ways Kyle is close to them.
They all sat down. Sammie is seating besides Kyle while Mizzy and Cathy is in front of her just like the old days. While eating they start talking about business. Sammie barely speak and immersed herself to eating. The contract keeps popping on her mind.
"Sammie what do you think?" Cathy asked her
"Ha? Am… If you think it's good, then I'm fine." She absentmindedly answered.
"Are you okay? You seem lost?" Mizzy worriedly asked her.
"Ah… It's nothing. Office matters." she smiled and continues eating.
Kyle glanced at her. He felt that it's his presence that makes Sammie agitated. On the other hand, he thought that she might truly be stress with work and should have a break. He then thought of an idea. "I can bring the contract early next week. Also, I think you should make an ocular visit of the resort next weekend. Your overnight accommodation is on me."
"Nice! A proper relaxation is what we need. Right Guys?" Mizzy excitedly asked her friends.
"Next weekend? Mizzy, remember we have a restaurant to manage. We can't be both, absent." Cathy then sighs.
"I almost forgot. Wait, how about you Sammie? You can visit the resort. You are free during weekends. You do the ocular for us." Mizzy eagerly looked at her.
Upon hearing Mizzy's suggestion, Kyle was delighted. He can spend more alone time with her. He is just hoping she will accept it.
"ha? Why me?" surprised Sammie asked her.
"You don't have office work on weekends. The Kitchen is Cathy's responsibility so she can't join you. I am the manager so I also can't come. You are not busy so you can do the ocular visit." Mizzy explained.
"But… I can't. I have made engagements already." she made an alibi to prevent being alone with Kyle in the resort.
"Sammie, it's for our business. Please!" Mizzy still insist.
Sammie looked at Cathy to help her out. "Just this one Sammie, for the restaurant." Cathy knew her apprehension but business first is her policy. She looked at her with a pitiful expression. Sammie was defeated. she clearly knew how important the restaurant is for them so she will compromise.
"Alright. You win. I'll go to the resort next weekend." she said as she holds her friends hand.
"That's great. I'll pick you up on Saturday next week." Kyle can't hide his happiness it's written all over his face.
Sammie saw how happy Kyle is and it makes her more worried. She just nodded her head.
After dinner he offers to bring Sammie home but she refused. She said that she will sleep at Cathy's place. He didn't insist anymore and excused himself and head home. Sammie was finally relieved when Kyle is gone.
"Sammie sorry." Cathy holds her arm and looked at her pitifully.
"You owe me one." She said as she rolled her eyes on them.
