Chapter 2 It's Dance Time already!?

The club signing in stuff was over, and it was time to be assigned into our various classes, it's either you're in class A or class B. At the end, Mitchy and I ended up in class A while the rest, class B. Not bad after all, we are 25 in my classroom. Mitchy and I planned on sitting together but unfortunately the sitting arrangement didn't favor us, it was "a boy a girl" sitting arrangement. Yeap my life just got complicated, talking to boys, relating with them, my worst nightmare and now I have to sit with one! 😟

I sat on the second seat, the second column of the first row waiting for my seat partner to arrive. He arrived, I was actually expecting an "hi" or "hey" but I got neither. Maybe he didn't see me or maybe he's not the girls type. So I decided to start the conversation, pretty brave right? 😌

"Hey" I greeted

he looked at me, responded "sup" brought out his phone and started pressing it. Sup??😕 what do I say to a sup? I've never been suped before by a guy. so I stammered

"I-I, uhm- I'm Pemi."

"okay cool." then he picked up his bag and left.

That was a conversation? I don't think so, probably he's one of the smelly boys during our junior days, only with a little upgrade.

It wasn't hard for Mitchy to make new friends, she's a people type and I'm not. Few minutes later a teacher came in, Mr Rouge, a.k.a Mr Red, the chemistry teacher, he was known for his achievements during his days in the school as a student, the best student, how he ended up here again, no one knows.

My first chemistry class, let's see how things would go.

10 minutes later, half of the class already dozed off and that includes me😴😴. He had poor teacher to students relationship. I had to manage not to sleep for the rest 20 minutes remaining. immediately the school bell rang, it was as if a no school day was declared. So much for my first class in the senior school.

I went to the dining with the hope of meeting up with my friends, and I did. I was expecting to see 5, but I saw 7. They've added to the group already? without my consent?😟 .

"hey Girls." I said

"Pemi, meet Kemi and Chloe, they're my club members." said Mitchy.

What I sign of relief, for a second there I thought she was going to say they are joining the MIXES.

" They're joining the MIXES."

And she did say it😧. They added to us without even seeking my opinion, don't I matter any longer?

" They're joining us?" I asked. "And everyone's okay with this?"

" Sure, it's cool" they all muttered.

I guess if it's okay by them, then it's okay by me. I exchanged greetings with the new girls, turned out they were not bad after all. Not long after, some men came it with posters and banners of a dance, more like a seminar but was modified into a dance over the years by past seniors. It's the NIS, New Intake Seminar.

"okay it's just a seminar, no one's gonna freak out." at least that's what I thought. Before I knew it, the dinning hall was under the siege of "who am I asking to the dance." And right there, a guy asked a girl to the dance, the whole dinning hall on fire. Everyone trying to get a shot of the romantic proposal.

I wasn't worried cause I knew I would be going to the dance with my friends, it's our thing. well that's what I thought until Camille screamed

"Ah! 🤩Luca just asked me to meet him in the gym!" They all started freaking out

" OMG! he's gonna ask you to the dance" Teni said.

I was in a total state of confusion, "what's going on?" I asked.

" Luca just texted her, she's been crushing on him since like forever."

I can't recall Camille mention that she has a crush on some Luca guy😕. I didn't want to ruin the moment, so I played along. "oh that's great." I said "so you're not going with us to the dance?" I asked hoping that she's the only one out, but I was wrong. Ada got a text message next from a guy called Ben, asking her to go with him to the dance.

"who's Ben?" I asked again

They all looked at me surprisingly, so I played along "oh! Ada's crush, I totally remember uhn 😉"

They were still staring at me.

" No, Ben isn't her crush, she's Ben's crush, they're totally two different situations." Mitchy said.

Yeap I blew it, it's not my fault, they never told me. I felt bad weather, so I excused the girls and went back to the class room.

I was in my moody state when my seat partner arrived. For a second he was silent, trying to observe me. Then he broke the silence.

" Okay I'm not good with girls issues, but I know a sad heart when I see one."

At first I ignored him, then he said. "is it about your friends, the MIXES?"

How did he know?😞 "How'd you know?" I asked

"oh please, people are talking about how you guys are falling apart, different clubs, different classes, different seats, what's gonna happen next, different lipstick?"

I was beyond shocked, first week in senior school, my friends already had crushes, rumours about our breakings spreading like wildfire, what's going on?

I couldn't be more moody.

"Look" he said "I know how it feels to be ignored."

Okay that's totally insulting, I'm not being ignored, I just seems not to know a lot of things about my friends and they didn't tell me. Oh wait! I'm totally being ignored 😞. He's just making things worse.

" I could help if you want." he added

" oh please, like I'm gonna take advice from a guy I don't even know his name." I said

" You can always let it all out to anybody."

Just like he knew I was very bad in keeping silent and letting things go. I was forced to speak, so I let it all out

" This is totally unfair, first they added to the

MIXES without my consent, I had to pretend I was okay, and now they're having crushs I don't know about, I feel they're keeping things from me, I don't even know them anymore, it's like I'm the girl who cried "lonely!" this is so unfair, that's not what friends do."

He kept silent for a moment

"you're not gonna say anything, are you?" I asked

"Nope."

What!!! he's not gonna say anything? I screwed up again

" but," he continued "I'm gonna say you don't have any reason to be angry. You can't expect you guys to be the same way forever ...."

"you sound like my mum." I cut in

"Did she tell you that it's going to always be these way? you feeling like you don't know a lot of things about your friends, and the only way to make things work out is respecting them irrespective of whatever change you notice?"

"Yeah she did, but th..."

"Then I don't think you should be angry" he cuts in. "They're friends, they'll definitely ignore you if you don't accept them."

My temper was cooled, I guess I'm the one at fault, I didn't ask or cared about what's happening to them.

"I guess you're right." I said.

"you're welcome. By the way, I'm Ade." he said waiting for an hand shake.

I shook him "Thanks Ade, nice to meet you." we had a long chat about how senior secondary school is way different from junior school untill the Physics teacher walked in.

After class, I went in search of my friends to apologize, found them on the field.

"Hey girls, I'm so sorry for the other time, I shouldn't have left, I was..."

" yeah we're sorry too." Teni cuts in. "we all have dates so we can't do the group dance thing, we're sorry." They left me standing, speechless. They knew I love the group dance thing. I followed Ade's advise and respected their decisions, although it wasn't easy. Guess I'll be going to the dance alone, so much for my first week in senior school.😬
