The emotional upheavals I'd been through finally took its toll over me. When I woke up the next day, my throat felt very sore and my head was heavy. My eyes were heavy-lidded and I knew that I wouldn't be able to make it to class on that day.
Wearily I sent a message to Gaya not to wait for me, that I wouldn't be coming. I sent a similar message to Dave, feeling regret that we wouldn't meet. As stressful as a fight is, it's even more fun to make up, at least that was what Roy told me when He got to know about Dave's and my fight through Gaya.
Staying at home allowed me to do some meditation and retrospection. These past months had been quite hectic and I noticed that I had changed. I now spent more time outside my house than with my folks and I felt guilty about it.
Wrapping my blanket around me, I trudged to the kitchen where my mum was preparing lunch already.
'Mum,' I croaked.
'Oh, honey, I was just coming to wake you up. You don't look well.'
'I'm not.'
'Go back to sleep.'
'I'll brush my teeth first.'
Ok, you do so. I'll bring some ginger tea for you.'
It was funny how I had started to see myself as all grown-up, so woman, but as soon as I fell sick I was back to being my mum's baby. I wasn't going to complain.
Mum coaxed me to eat some crackers as well, and I took my med and slept.
I was awakened by the ringing of my phoned. With half-opened eyes I peered at the screen. It was Dave.
I eagerly picked it up and tried to adopt a seductive tone as it was the first time we were talking on the phone. We had texted yes, but never had a conversation on the phone.
'Hiii', what came out was a croak instead.
'Ah, poor sweetheart, you're still sick.'
'Yeeesss.'
'Don't worry, I'll lend you my notes.'
Thinking of his neat handwriting and how it turned me on last time, I could only agree readily. Immediately my mood lifted, but I could only reply in monosyllables.
'I missed you today.'
It was like a salve for my soul to hear him say that. We chatted for a few more seconds, or least he did before I ended the call.
I went back to sleep hoping to be fit to meet him soon.
