Lending money

It's only after 3 days that I finally met Dave. I went to the campus wrapped in a thick jacket and a scarf as it was starting to be quite chilly and I wanted to stay on the safe side. I was greeted by a warm hug that lasted 5 seconds. Even though I didn't want to leave his arms, we were starting to attract the attention of the other students.

'You okay?'

'Yes, better.'

'Come, let's go to class.'

Reluctantly I turned in the direction of the Agriculture Block. I was not eager to go as I knew that Gaya and Brynise wouldn't come on that day. They had informed me that they would be working on their project instead.

'Gaya is not coming today.'

'Why? Any prob?'

'She's putting the final touches to her project.'

'Oh.'

When we reached the classroom, I automatically headed to a seat in the second row and put my bag on my desk. When I turned around, I saw that Dave was putting his bag on the desk next to mine.

'What happened? You're giving me your notes now?'

He didn't get time to reply as the lecturer entered the class at that moment and to my shock he pulled the chair and sat down. I could only stare at him, mouth agape.

'Sit,' he said looking at me with a smile.

I sat down, still feeling awkward, but oh so excited. It was like telling the whole world that we were an item. Apparently, Nancy and her cronies had noticed as well and I could hear them furiously whisper, even mentioning Dave's name a few times.

Class passed in a breeze and it was all thanks to Dave. He took my attention away from the explanation a few times with his mere presence.

When class was over, I saw that Gaya had sent me a message. I was planning to tell her all about my experience when I read that she needed my help urgently.

'Can you lend me some money urgently please? Right now?'

The sum she asked was quite hefty given that I had already spent my pocket money on print outs and photocopies. I agreed to lend her but it was not enough.

'Ask Dave as well.'

'That will be weird.'

'Please.'

'Can you lend Gaya some money please?'

He looked at me intently and just when he was starting to freak me out, he pulled out his wallet, took some notes and put it in my hands.

'I hope it's enough.'

It was. I called Gaya and she came to meet us near the classroom block. Roy was with her andhe looked unusually glum.

'Thanks guys,' he said.

'I'm having a few problems with my landlady. The electricity bill was extremely high this month and she is claiming I'm to be blamed. If I want my lease to be renewed I have to give her the amount today itself. My salary is due in 3 days and I'll give it to you then.'
