Taxes

Taxes are very complicated. It is to the point that it is impossible to learn everything about it just to pay a bit less in taxes. The tax code has an abnormally disgusting length of 74,000 pages. You wouldn't even be able to just read it in a year even if you spent 3 hours every day.

Every year there are hundreds of changes made to the tax code. So even after you finally finished reading the tax code, you would still need to actively check if there have been any major changes on a daily basis.

The tax codes are so complicated, that at least 17% of taxpayers fail to comply with the rules. It's to the extent that these mistakes that technically count as violations are ignored and counted as an honest mistake. Only 0.0022% are ever actually convicted based on these violations.

In 2017 the US government collected a whopping $3,300,000,000,000 in taxes. But they are still in quite a bit of debt which is still constantly rising. Debt isn't necessarily bad although that would be quite complicated to explain.

The US spent $1.3 trillion on social security, unemployment, and labour, slightly over $1 trillion on medical care and health and $600 billion on their military. With $600 billion, the US accounted for 37% of the total planet wide military expenses.
