The Sword Dance of Red and Blue Part 8

Gabrielle's explanation had indeed taken long, and it seemed like brother Andrew expected it. Since he didn't return until two hours later. Lyn's gaze fell on the man who was changing his clothes.

She has to admit, this scene makes her have some crazy thoughts.

Rhys had just taken off his outer robe, when he caught her staring. He sighs and walks over to the bed.

"You know, if I didn't know any better. I would think you were checking me out."

"Maybe you're not wrong."

Rhys chuckled and kissed her forehead. "I think we should behave tonight."

"Mmm." Lyn extends her hands out to play with his hair. "Rhys, about what Gabrielle said-"

"It's most-likely true. I've been to the realm of souls before, back when I still placed curses on people. Lady Gabrielle met with the original owners of the phoenix and water dragon swords."

"If the souls of the original owners are still in the soul realm, doesn't that mean they can't reincarnate."

"Not quite, the soul realm is the land between the dead and the living. Lingering souls who do not want to pass onto the wheel of reincarnation stay there in their soul form. It seems the original owners of the phoenix and water dragon decided to remain in the soul realm. But, they are still able to pass on traits to their descendants Either your mother or father's side. It's probably from your mothers side. I heard stories of how powerful your mother was as a Princess, and that's why she was made the heir."

As Rhys explained, Lyn noticed how he kept caressing her hair. Hmm, he truly knows how to pamper her. She still felt very emotional, she was happy that her dear friend and both her parents were alive. But, a part of her is frightened hearing all this good news before the big battle.

Is this simply the calm before the storm? Will something dangerous happen in the final battle?

Lyn was plagued with worries and different scenarios. Is something going to happen to Kazuya and Rhys? Kazuya's current condition already worries her. Recalling how pale he was and how difficult it was just for him to speak. She almost stood up and left to go check on him again.

After the discussion with Gabrielle, they briefly stopped by Kazuya's room to check on him. He was still fast asleep and according to the servants his fever keeps increasing.

In the end, she and Rhys decided to stay in the spare chambers across the hall just in case something happened.

Her thoughts break off feeling a tender pair of lips on hers. That tender and gentle kiss quickly turned into a passionate one, and before she knew it she was laying down on the bed with Rhys on top of her.

Whenever they get like this, it always felt like her heart would leap out of her chest. The sound of her heart beat, and his- it's the same. She is not the only one experiencing such emotions. Lyn caressed his cheeks and Rhys chuckled.

"I said we should behave tonight, since we didn't yesterday. But, your making it a bit difficult for me."

"It's not my fault that you have corrupted thoughts." She brushes her fingers across his eyes. "Rhys, did you speak to Raven about your eye yet? You told me not to come with you, so I respected your choice. But, you haven't discussed it with me yet."

"You don't have to worry. Raven said that as long as we perform the ceremony, he will have a solution with my eye."

"So, we have to get your jade back?"

Rhys nodded. "The only way to reverse the damage of ones organs, is to use a strong and powerful medium, that medium will be my jade."

"But doesn't that mean Raven has to be nearby to use the jade to heal your eye? Isn't that-" Lyn stopped herself from saying the words 'cruel.' Her going up to Raven and telling him that their relationship was over was already cruel enough.

Raven has every right to get angry at her, but he doesn't. How can he be so understanding? Her thoughts break off when she felt Rhys place kisses on her neck.

"Don't think about him in front of me."

"I haven't heard you say anything like that in a long time." She combs Rhys hair with her fingers. "Are you dropping the gentleman act now?"

It was a joke of course, she knew Rhys wasn't pretending to be kind. This is the real him, the real Rhys without the heavy burdens shackling him.

"Should I? Your pretty enough for me to eat you." Rhys nibbled her bottom lip and she pouts causing him to laugh. His expression suddenly turns serious. "Lyn, when your fighting against Queen Jennifer. You have to be very careful."

"Of course I know that-" Lyn trails of seeing his stern gaze. "Did Kazuya tell you that I'm having a hard time using my dual wielding style with the sword of lycoris?"

"He mentioned it." Rhys sighed. "You told me that the demon didn't show you any nightmares. But, maybe he only did that temporary."

Lyn shakes her head. "It's not what your thinking. It's just the sword is heavier than the phoenix dragon sword, one is a rapier meant for speed and this other one is a regular sword made for more difficult combat."

"So it's a practical issue? Then let me join your training sessions again. I'll help." Rhys got off her and lays beside her. Lyn immediately buried her face in his arms. "Are you comfortable?"

"Just now." Lyn admitted.

Recently she has realized that she sleeps a lot better being in Rhys arms.

"We will have more days like this after the war."

'That is if we win.' Lyn knew he didn't want to say those words. Even though she went around talking to all the knights about their plans after the war. There is still a fifty percent chance of them losing. Three years ago when she fought Jen, she indeed couldn't beat her. But, three entire years have passed, and not a single day has gone by where she didn't practice.

She just hopes all her efforts will be enough.
