Remiel City

Months went on smoothly, I almost forgot that it was now 4 months since I met the white tiger Ruugo. During those months, I stayed at the cave and only hunts at night for food. By that time, I was penniless.

The great demon king didn't even have any centavos on him. Right, he was forced to leave the castle immediately.

I ecstatically reached my hand towards the treasure chest beside the throne, however the only thing I've got is a broken sword.

"It was the Vandell family's heritage. The only treasure the emperor had."

So even the emperor is sentimental? I need food dammit!

On the other hand, the coffin was where the previous emperor resides. What is he a vampire? I inwardly cursed. The bookshelves has no use either, it was only a collection of the emperor's past glory…

With this, I had to live my life like a rat.

"We need a job."

"I already had one. I'm the emperor's royal guard. "

"Seriously. Something that might keep us alive."

Desperate for a job, we attempted to head towards the city, thus arriving in this kind of situation…

My cloak was fluttering in the wind while sitting on a tiger crosslegged. And Ruugo was running at stop speed. I felt like a character in a novel.

My worn out clothes are still tact and my broken down sword is on it's sheathe. If only I was able to wear a more decent clothing I would really look like a traveling cultivator.

On Ruugo's top speed, the carriages we passed through we're only able to witnessed an afterimage. The power of an S class royal guard is terrifying.

The normal carriages arrive within a week, however we were able to reach the city within 3 days.

Rosenthelle Empire Central city, Remiel is a flourishing city surrounded by the sea at the east and a great fertile land on the other. The life here was good as well as the atmosphere. Known as one of the safest city, the population here grown so much overtime.

I strode over the gate when it was our turn, the queue was long and it took us several minutes in line. The queue was mainly composed of carriages and only a few people walked barefoot, including us. Before lining up the queue, I asked Ruugo to change his form, which he gladly followed. In a place like this, we need to keep our profile low or we'll be able to attract too much attention. We might even be targeted by dark forces in the city.

…Or so I thought.

Some people peered out of their carriage, mostly women. They giggled and pointed in our direction. Some we're curious and several people looked awed. On the other hand, several men stared at us intensely as if we were pigs to be butchered.

"Ugh."

A tall white haired guy stood right before me. His long hair was blown by the wind and created a really majestic aura. He wore a white robe, making him stand out even more. His feature was dashing that I felt like faint lights were enveloping his body, the typical ikemen. His temperament was that of an immovable mountain unperturbed by the storm. Ruugo is a total heartthrob now.

"We attract too much attention."

"…"

When it was our turn, we approach the town's guard in charge of admission, an old man around forty.

"What a fine young man. You're ID?"

"ID?"

Ruugo looked at me baffled. As expected, we need an ID to be admitted to the city.

"Mister, where can we get an ID?"

The old man finally noticed me, I, who was left unnoticed because of Ruugo's looks.

"Oh? You don't know? I shall let you be guided first then."

He summoned a young guard to guide us.

"We shall settle it by making a temporary card. 100 rem for each."

Hearing the man, I instinctively held my pockets… we're totally penniless. I scratched my cheeks with embarrassment.

"Right now, we don't have any money at hand. Can we settle it with other means?"

The Man was startled for a moment before considering our negotiation, with a wave of his hand, he led us to a room.

"We have some herbs at hand, would that be sufficient?"

"It depends on the herb's class."

With that, I nodded and took out the herbs I gathered that was supposed to be sold in the city. I don't know this world's herb classes but I thought these must be good.

"This is…"

The man looked with troubled eyes as he scanned the herbs on the table.

"Does it have any value?"

"Well, er… yes, actually. These herbs can be use as medicines for a wide variety of poisons." He pointed to the clumps of leaves in front of him then continued,

"And these are plants known to effectively paralyze demons as well as monsters. It has no effects against humans thus it is a great tool when on a field battle."

This time, he pointed towards the green roots I've gathered.

"These herbal medicines costs 25 rem. and these paralyzing roots costs at least 150 rem."

With that, I gave one paralyzing roots and two medicinal plants to the young guard. Our negotiation was done and he handed two white cards that is activated whenever the user touched it. Still with a troubled look, he opened his mouth,

"Actually, these roots can only be seen on the borders. Wonder you came from a village near Heyward?"

He asked, honestly his guess was right. I live on that forest for months.

I nodded and waved my hands before leaving the room.

The town was lively and was lightly packed with people. Stalls stood on each side of the street.

We headed towards a guild first. After turning left and right, we were able to reach our destination. Guilds aren't hard to find for it was always the largest building in the town and the most crowded place of all. Guilds are one of the main foundations of a kingdom, they're one of the benefactors why the empire wasn't invaded by demon race for hundred of years. However, doesn't mean guilds are of one objective, they are from one faction. In that case, an association was made to regulate these hot blooded adventurers, the Imperial Knights.

A large silver statue of a woman was placed in front of a tall building. It was exquisitely designed and by the looks of it, she looks like she was a legendary figure of the guild.

In front of the guild is a group of people making a commotion. A man and a woman was facing each other at the center of the crowd, the man was badly injured. His red hair resembles the crimson red blood dripping down his cheeks. He frowned at the sight of the woman in front, as if he just tasted a very bad medicine.

The woman took the opportunity and rushed forward, she swung her sword and a crack was formed beneath her feet. Her blade shone when light struck and it emitted a faint aura of killing intent. The woman was frightening to the extent that the man stood there dumbfounded when she disappeared and closed the gap between them by appearing inches apart.

Phantom Steps!

The man escaped before the sword even struck him. No trace of him remained and the woman struck the empty space instead. With brows furrowed, she sheathed her sword before turning to leave.

She acted like nothing happened and turn her heels towards the guild. Just know, that guy looks dangerous, I wonder if he was a criminal? However, the woman was head over heels stronger than him, I was certain that he would be captured in no time.

Magic really exist in this world, if only I can learn it. The Shadow Steps was really effective. I was mesmerized by the woman's fine movement so much that I realized there were far more important things that I should consider learning… the path is long thus I shall take a step.

Speaking of which, the system hadn't shown herself for a while, now she was turning my life around at the palm of her hands?
