Summing up the results of 2020-2021, part 1

Some readers ask questions. Why, for example, do authors start writing their novels and then abandon them without finishing the story?

Why don't they continue to write their novels?

I don't undertake to answer for all the authors, but I'll write for myself:

1. I started writing because the novel that I was writing stopped opening for those stones and then quick passes. This is how it happened with 10 novels that I read on this site.

2. Three more novels have ceased to be translated

3. Two other sites closed and I could not read any of my visual novels.

4. I had questions and ideas that I wanted to highlight, share my thoughts

5. But ideas are one thing, when I began to express my thoughts, I realized that it was easier to criticize, obvious mistakes that I easily found from other authors, I myself began to make them. So I paused writing the story for a while. I began to read other novels, to get rid of verbosity. Excessive detail.

Don't just think about how to describe in detail the world and character of literary heroes. The first chapters I had 25 thousand words each, I reduced them to 5 thousand, then to 2.5 thousand words. Until I came to the understanding that the optimal size of chapters is from 750 to 1470-1500 words. You need to write 2 chapters a day, 1300-1400 words each. In addition, it is difficult to write updates for three or more novels at the same time in one day.

Now I am writing updates for two novels, but every other day. 2 chapters for the main novel and 1 chapter for a smaller novel. In addition, in the novels of other authors, I did not like their protagonist, the rogue, who, by the age of 10,000 years past, should have already understood the nature of human relations in society. And he, and remains naive and rokhly. You can't live like that in the world. Therefore, I began to write easier, what I think, what it seems to me, the reader stretched. Of course, the quality of the writing, grammatical errors, scare away those who are used to reading novels by famous authors and who need quality writing.

But if the plot is engaging, then the reader will read. Since you can always find an editor and proofreader afterwards, correct the novel, grammar and writing. If there is a good storyline and the audience is interested in this story. Of course, some come, others leave.

The main success is to write at least 1350 words every day, update every day. Some stories, I had to quickly complete, although I planned to write 200-300 chapters for them, but it was difficult for me to write 7-10 novels at the same time. And leaving them unfinished, abandoned because of hiatus, would not be respect for my few readers. So I completed them. Then new ideas came to me and I wrote new short stories

. I thought that I would have more strength and health. But suddenly he changed his lifestyle, from work at home, to work in the office, a new rhythm of work and workload. Then he fell ill once with covid, then a second time.

It takes from 3 months to 18 months to recover from covid! In view of this, I abandoned everything.

I haven't updated some novels for 9 months and others for 7! But here I am again, writing for the last 3 weeks, almost every day, 1-2 chapters for two novels.

There are many ideas, but so far I can only implement for two novels and one story about writing, notes of an amateur, my observations, experience.

So far I have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to write interesting stories, without describing the world, without details. You need to remember them all, if you don't write for a long time, you can later forget.

Do not write numbers as much as possible, do not delve too deeply into the lines of the second or third literary heroes. You can never return to them later, or you will return chapters after 100, which both the reader and the author himself will forget about!

You can write down vivid thoughts after reading other novels that the author could not realize or did not update for a long time, you can write this in your novel.

This is not plagiarism, this is the author's interpretation of the story through his understanding of the story. In their images. But it turns out to be interesting for the reader who is looking for something exciting to read for the New Year holidays.

What he read earlier has ended or the release has been frozen, waiting for an update for a long time. I would like to read an easy, simple story, not difficult, not boring, with a more or less easy plot.

An average writing that can be read, even for grammatical errors. Of course, such works are not designed for readers for whom English is their native language, they are too picky about grammar.

If they tried to write in Taganlog, Turkic, Russian, Spanish, I am sure that they, too, would have mistakes, which are the case with those who do not have a native language. But personally, I read novels where the language can be clumsy, not so smooth, but the content is interesting, the plot is fascinating.

And if the novel is written in perfect English, but the plot does not catch on, then what's the point in reading it?

If not interested?

But this is just my opinion. I do not impose it on anyone.

Why do novels leave without finishing writing?

Maybe the author's outlook on life has changed?

Have your interests changed?

Thought you already grew out of storytelling?

Not interested in the plot itself or the whole story?

Maybe it seemed that this was an unsuccessful business project?

I am writing solely for my own interest, not for self-interest, as we often said for the sake of it, I will most likely not get money at the expense of my history. And I do not strive for this. I like Chinese literature, I read late feudal authors and authors from the 80s and 90s of the 20th century. Chinese literature and poetry are interesting in their own way, different eras illuminate the different philosophy of this country.

I also like oriental fiction and contemporary Chinese literature. But I also like the western ones, such as Ursula Le Guin. I write because I'm interested. Two novels, one about Farmer Dara, with 360-400 chapters planned. So far written 187! The second novel,

The Culinary Dao, with his cousin Shir Ali, is planned for 150-200 chapters, while 47 chapters are written.

So there is still a long way to go. In 2 years of being on the site, I have gone from level 1 to level 7! Read all the novels with 1.6 million click-throughs. One novel was viewed by 715 thousand, another by 360, the other two by 100 thousand ... well, the rest were also a little bit. For a Chinese server, these are of course small numbers, my Bro from Britain got 2 million clicks in 3 months, and a familiar author from the Philippines got 10 million views in 1 year.

This is a really cool result. But for example, on other servers, in other countries, the figure of 200 thousand or 100 thousand click-throughs in 10 years is also impressive!

Different grading systems. What did the presence on this site and the culture give me to write every day, set unattainable tasks and strive for them? - I can write easily from 4 to 8 pages of text a day, in 2-3 hours or 1400 words a day. I didn't have this before.

I barely managed to write 1 or 2 pages of 800 words!

- You can easily switch from different topics when writing texts.

- I began to value the opinion of other readers and authors, to listen to their criticism, but also to dig deeper, since sometimes some authors and readers are cunning, for example, with history. Not all are white and fluffy, sometimes their countries themselves were in the role of the aggressor, and then the victims of another empire. That is, the world is not so simple, white and black. A lot of gray.

- Meet interesting authors.
