Running away together

Your pov

I grabbed my bag and placed it carefully on the bed, the fabric of the comforter cool against my fingertips. My heart raced with anticipation as I prepared for the task ahead. When it came to Jungkook, I was always ready for anything. Why? Because my life had taken a turn that made his protection my utmost priority. I would do whatever it took to shield him from the chaos surrounding us.

I rummaged through my bag, my fingers brushing against the cool materials until I retrieved a black mask and a sleek black cap meant for him. I had thought of everything. I then pulled out a matching cap for myself, determined to blend into the shadows of the night. Tonight, I was ready to take him out of there, and I didn't care about the countless security cameras tracking our every move or the consequences my parents would impose once they realized I was missing. I was one step ahead of them, and nothing could stop me.

"Y/N..."

I turned to find Jungkook looking my way, his eyes filled with a mix of worry and confusion. He fidgeted nervously, uncertainty etched across his features.

"What are you doing? You do know that we can't possibly get out of here, right? There are doctors, nurses, and not to mention the guards at the entrance. You'll get in trouble."

I met his uneasy gaze with determination. "I just have to walk ahead of you and make sure the coast is clear. Once I signal that it's safe, you'll follow. As for the guards, I'll think of something to distract them. It can't be that hard," I said firmly as I covered his mouth with the black mask, ensuring it fit snugly against his skin.

"Why are you doing this? I've never done anything for you. In fact, I've been cruel. I even hurt you and almost killed you." His tone was filled with disbelief, as if the very idea of my devotion was absurd.

"Didn't I already explain why I'm doing this? You're just too stubborn to understand, or maybe you refuse to see the truth," I whispered, gently placing the cap on his head, adjusting it so it sat just right.

Jungkook let out a heavy sigh, his deep brown eyes locked onto mine, searching for answers. His hand instinctively gripped my shoulder, grounding himself in this moment. "And where will you take me, huh Y/N?"

"Far away from everything and everyone. Where i can fix you." You bluntly said.

Far away from the chaos of the world, where the noise of everyday life faded into silence, you envisioned a sanctuary—a place where safety enveloped you like a warm blanket. In your mind, it was just the two of you, separated from everything else. It was here that you yearned to help Jungkook, to mend the fragmented pieces of his soul.

Jungkook chuckled lightly but with a hint of disbelief.

"Fix me? I'm not a toy that can be easily repaired, Y/N."

"I'm not going anywhere," you insisted, your voice steady, refusing to waver.

"No? You're willing to throw everything away to be a fugitive? All of this... just for me?" Jungkook rolled his eyes, exasperation giving way to concern. "Come on, Y/N. You can't possibly be this naive. I'm not worth the trouble. You won't gain anything from this. What on earth are you trying to accomplish? Look at me—I have nothing to offer you. No matter what you do or say, I won't ever be able to return your feelings. Don't waste your time on someone so incredibly broken."

"Shut up!" you snapped back fiercely, the intensity of your emotions spilling over. "I don't expect anything from you. This is my life, and I've made my choice. If I walk away now, I know I'll regret it for the rest of my days. I won't leave you alone—not like this. You'll have no choice but to endure my relentless presence. You barged into my life, so you're stuck with me."

"It's actually the other way around," he whispered almost to himself, his fingers brushing the mask that concealed his face, adjusting it as if trying to shield himself from your penetrating gaze. You entered my life uninvited.

And Jungkook was right. He never sought anyone to save him. Before you entered his life, he was just fine—numbly existing, unaware of his own existence. He merely existed, breathing but not really living. It was a comfortably hollow state he once cherished, where everything was muted and nothing ever hurt. He longed for that kind of peace, where feelings were absent, thoughts were quiet, and he could disengage from the chaotic web of human emotion.

But then you came along, shattering the fragile world he had crafted for himself. Your presence ignited feelings he believed were long dormant, emotions he now realized would haunt him for a lifetime. No matter how hard he tried to push you away, to convince you that he was beyond repair, you steadfastly held onto him, refusing to let go.

Jungkook threw a fleeting glance at you, who was scanning the corridor for signs of anyone approaching. Within him, a voice cried out, pleading with him to make you stop. Concern crackled in the air, and he felt an overwhelming urge to ensure you were safe. Without thinking, he seized your arm, pulling you into his embrace before closing the door with a firm click, leaving the outside world behind.

You were frozen in his arms, and Jungkook felt similarly paralyzed. The internal battle within him waged on, leaving him dizzy. Both sides of his heart were so enamored with you that it became painful, a paradox he couldn't resolve.

With your heart racing, you shut your eyes, instinctively wrapping your arms around his waist. "What is it? Talk to me," you urged softly, seeking the truth buried within him.

"They just make my life more unbearable than it already is," he muttered, frustration mingling with vulnerability.

A smile broke across your face, illuminating the dim room. "Can you hear them?" You teased gently. "Which one is it? My charming playboy or my sweet, misunderstood bad boy?"

Jungkook's eyes searched your face, filled with a mixture of irritation and intrigue, but your delighted grin infuriated him. "What on earth did you do to them? How did you manage to twist their minds so swiftly and thoroughly?"

"Me?" Your voice dripped with playful mischief as you returned his gaze. "Maybe I'll show you—after we get out of here." You quickly pressed a light kiss on his cheek before turning back toward the door, opening it once more.

As cold air swept in, Jungkook felt his cheeks flush with warmth. He blinked in rapid succession, stunned, and pressed his hands against the heat of his skin, only to realize with a shock that you were no longer in his line of sight. Fear gripped his heart, jolting him into action.

"You looked so scared. Like a lost little puppy," you laughed as you both stepped out of the taxi, the warmth of the sun momentarily distracting you from the gravity of your situation.

"Shut up!" he shot back, a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance in his tone.

"Were you genuinely frightened that I left you back there?" The laughter bubbled from your lips as you intertwined your fingers with his, leading him toward the train station with a playful bounce in your step.

Everything unfolded more easily than you had anticipated. With a few salty tears and a well-spun tale of robbery—claiming you were accosted by someone who had escaped from a hospital—the guards had quickly set off in search of an invisible assailant.

Now, as you stood at the station, having secured two tickets that would whisk the two of you away from Seoul, a sense of exhilaration mixed with trepidation washed over you.

Jungkook remained quiet beside you, battling his insecurities as he covertly studied you when he thought you weren't watching. A feeling of being burdensome washed over him, making him question, "And you plan to take care of me for the rest of your life?" His voice dripped with skepticism.

"Yep," you replied simply, perched on a bench as you swung your feet lightly, lost in your thoughts. A pout formed on your lips, inadvertently drawing Jungkook's attention, his gaze now lingering too much on your lips.

Sensing his gaze, you had no idea if to look back.

You waited anxiously, hoping he would look away, but the moment never came. Finally, you decided to turn your head toward him, locking your gaze with his. As soon as your eyes met, an electric surge of emotion coursed through you, and his intense gaze almost took your breath away.

He was still donned in the mask and a black cap, the fabric casting shadows over his face, with his bangs hanging low enough to almost obscure his dark, captivating eyes. His presence enveloped you like a warm embrace, igniting a comforting warmth deep inside you. Simply being there with him was all you needed to feel truly content; he was everything you had ever wanted. Gratitude filled your heart for his existence in your life, because for the first time, you felt vibrantly alive. Each stolen glance from him made time seem to freeze in a delightful suspension.

A faint smile graced Jungkook's lips, though it remained hidden beneath the mask. Still, he could sense the emotions radiating from you; all he needed to do was delve into your eyes. Unlike the ardent desires he often encountered, your gaze lacked the typical lust and selfishness he had observed time and again in others. You had never taken the initiative to approach him directly, yet somehow, with you, he felt liberated—unlike the weight of suffocation he had endured from other interactions throughout his life.

Then, unexpectedly, Jungkook leaned toward you, his hands resting on the bench on either side of your body, effectively trapping you in this moment. The air around you became charged with anticipation as he brushed his lips against your cheek through the mask—a fleeting, gentle kiss that sent a rush of warmth through you before he drew back slightly. Your faces remained close, hearts racing in sync, as you stared into his eyes, searching the depths of his soul.

"Thank you," he whispered softly, his fingers lightly caressing your cheek with a tenderness that made your heart flutter.

You managed a small smile in response, feeling a mixture of emotions swirl within you. "Thank you for caring about someone like me, even if you make my life a hell." The words slipped out, laced with sincerity and just a hint of playful exasperation, and you both understood the complexity of the connection that hung between you.
