Two Against the World (1)

Endless grinding was the other name of MMORPG. And it was the same as this series.

Ranker's Quest has been a mystery so far. An amazing game with consistent updates, and various things to explore.

Those things proved and became a hit once again.

The previous game, with its single playable race, human. And now, a new chapter has been opened with this 2nd title. Four playable races since the beginning.

The possibilities are high. Places to explore should be vast too.

The unexpected thing was that for the first and second day of the new game, a lot of complaints erupted on the forum.

Boring. Endless grinding.

Various players started from newbies to experts have voiced their opinion.

But, that was basically unreasonable. Big guilds and communities opposed that opinion.

Especially for civilian players, the game's decision was the best.

The given time to level up their skill was what made them still played as civilians.

It was only a single dungeon, but the controversies were arguably big.

The thing they forgot was that the game was made to be enjoyed.

The Player did not need to play 24 hours a day. It was already proven by the previous game. Players would enjoy various content and events from the game.

PvP and PvE were the fundamentals. The competition was already formed since the previous game and still carried to the new game.

People had egos and competitive spirit. And the current state of the game couldn't satisfy that. The only feature now was PvE.

And with that competitive spirit still burning, they wanted to enter the 'real game', which was the mainland, unlocked after finishing Lv 10 trial, and somehow placed their name somewhere visible.

"I am Lv 8 now. My stats are lower and so, I don't think we can finish it like this."

"Geez."

"I think I am about to get something. Just bear with me for the next few hours."

"What to do with the level then?"

"Let's level up outside."

"Okay then."

For the current Goblin Cavern, seventh waves were discovered so far and shared in the forum.

The 4th and 5th were still considered easy. Players would face a bunch of Trolls. Skinny humanoid creatures who were taller than adults.

They were still considered easy but they were still challenging. Great coordination and strength that could not be compared to goblins were their main point.

6th was against two ogres, fat humanoid creatures who were almost double the size of trolls.

While the 7th was an armored ogre with some lesser ogres that could beat a player with a single hit.

The assumption of 8th waves coming from the mysterious sounds behind the Ogres.

But amidst all the assumptions, no one was able to defeat the 7th wave and confirmed the truth.

And, while all players busy discussing and trying to clear the 7th wave, there was a party that never passed the 4th wave.

They only tried it once and never did it again. And this party was Arceede's.

"Huft. Okay, Bears were nothing now."

They have spent some hours in-game to grind before going back to the dungeon.

Party was made to ease the hunt. All members would share a portion of EXP based on their contribution and last hit.

Avia as a civilian, would not get any adventure EXP, but while in a party, Arceede's portion of EXP was still reduced.

And so, for Arceede's party, when they were outside of the dungeon, they could disband it and play as a solo.

Avia got his first unique monster this way. The monster he attacked was considered hunted, and Arceede who finished it was counted as a kill-stealing.

And that's how Arceede got his second unique item, 'Dreamcatcher Amulet'.

"Can you check the exact skill of the Bears?" Arceede asked Avia beside him.

"Nope, not yet. But, I can assume that their skill was an AOE debuff. Your attack and movement were reduced for a good amount."

Arceede pondered quite a while before began to propose something.

"Should I grab their skill, then?"

"Isn't that hobgoblin's skill more helpful and stronger too?"

"But, for my next hypothesis, the bear's would be the best. I want to try a different perspective this time."

"Okay, let's grab one."

The one they talked about was the 'Dreamcatcher Amulet's' effect. The one that helped them to kill another hobgoblin on their first run.

Dreamcatcher Amulet's effect was to steal one main skill of the monster he killed.

It had stuff such as level and authorization too, but it was not that important now.

Dreamcatcher Amulet gave him a new skill, but it could not give him the detail. He needed to appraise the skill before confirming the exact detail.

Fortunately, the skill he stole from the hobgoblin, 'Berserk Rush', was doing a good job.

It improved stats for a certain duration but weakened him when the duration ended.

"Huft. Okay got it."

He had successfully killed and stole a skill from a random spawned bear.

He opened his profile stats to confirmed it.

"It's called 'Lesser Demerit Area'."

"The effect will be matched then. The name looks pretty similar."

"Okay. So, here's the plan. Different than we have used to do, Let's not kill all the 'owners'."

"But, that's what you just said earlier, we have the advantage for it since your skill literally 'stole' theirs."

"Yeah, and I think it's a wrong approach. It should have a higher possibility."

"Well, can't help but do it, honestly. And I still anxious about other people too. Sigh~"
