Chapter 29: Ethan’s Growing Curiosity

"Who's this?" Ethan asked, holding up the screen.

Arnold glanced at the photo, his expression unreadable. "An old friend."

"She looks like more than a friend," Ethan pressed.

Arnold chuckled, a hint of sadness in his voice. "She was someone I cared about once, but it didn't work out. Life has a way of complicating things."

Ethan leaned back, studying Arnold. "You seem to have a lot of those—complications."

Arnold met his gaze, his tone serious. "Life isn't as simple as you think, Ethan. But I promise, I'll always be honest with you. No more secrets."

Ethan nodded, but his mind was already racing. He wasn't sure he could take Arnold's word at face value.

Ethan couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Arnold's story. When Arnold left for a meeting the next morning, Ethan took the opportunity to snoop around the penthouse.
