Study session - Maths

[Saturday, Afternoon]

Hey, all. It's me, Ethan. I've been looking forward to this day forever. I planned this event a while ago. you see, I overheard Kaylee say something about being bad at maths. Now, since I'm the best at Maths what I had to do next was obvious.

Yes, you are correct. I invited her for a study session. Genius, I know. I managed to get my parents and sister out of the house. So everything was ready! I didn't want it to just be us so I also invited Owen who I knew would help me. He's been my wingman since she transferred in. I looked forward to this. Nothing could go wrong.

So why is it, that I'm looking at a cancellation text from Owen?

"Sorry, can't make it today. Well, I can but I don't want to. Have fun you two."

I'm going to kill him. He was supposed to be here and support me. Without him, I won't know what to do. I need him here to boost my confidence. I NEED HIM HERE TO MAKE ME LOOK GOOD.

Ding Dong

Oh, no. The doorbell rang. That must be her. I mean I know it's her. I was staring out the window watching her walk down the road as if she was a pizza I ordered almost 20 minutes ago. As she got closer I started pacing and acting like I was busy. I wasn't a fool. I knew not to open the door as soon as the first ding.

Ding

"Why, Hello there," I said trying not to punch myself in the gut.

"Hello!" Kaylee's smile was too pure for this world. Her casual clothes suit her so well. Her little light-coloured skirt and branded t-shirt. She's so hip and up-to-date with fashion, I think I might pass out. Whereas all I had was a boring shirt and jeans,

Am I being too creepy?

There was nothing but silence when we stood at the doorway together. So I lead her to my room, where we would be doing the studying. It didn't occur to me until we sat down, that there was a girl in my room. I don't know what to do. Should I text Owen? Will he know what to do?

"Dude. Stop messaging me. Just don't do anything you'll regret." His reply read.

What does he mean? 'Don't do anything I'll regret'. I'm sure I won't be THAT bad.

"Shall we get started?" Kaylee said.

"Ah! Yes, Yes."

You idiot. Ask her if she wants a drink or anything. She is a guest.

"Would you like a drink or anything to quench your thirst?"

Good going she's probably not freaked out by the use of the word quench.

"Sure! I'll just have a glass of water!"

AH! She's too pure. It felt like I was shot with a bullet of cuteness and purity. All corruption in my soul is being cured just by looking at her.

"T-thank you." Did I just thank her? Why am I bowing?

I quickly returned with her water, straight from a bottle and not from the tap, and tried to hide that I was out of breath from running up and down the stairs.

"Let us begin? Shall we?" Ew, I think I know how Owen feels when he has to put up with me. I've never been so aware of my actions before.

We spent the first few minutes setting up. She brought all her maths books with her and I gave a quick check-up to see how much help she needed.

"Please don't get angry." She said.

Why would I get angry?

I looked over her work for around 10 minutes as Kaylee watched me carefully check each question.

"Right. I think I understand."

"I'm sorry." Now I know why she said not to get angry.

"What were your marks in the last maths test?" Did I want to know?

"T-ten.."

"Out of?"

"100."

At least she's a tenth of the way there. This is going to be tiring.

Several hours went by with no progress. Well, Kaylee progressed. Her maths score went from 10 to 11. So 1 new mark. She only needs around 50 to pass so it's a steady process. The main improvement was that I was starting to be so focused on teaching that I didn't even care that she was in my room anymore. The atmosphere around us turned friendly and safe as if it was a feeling that was always around us.

We continued to go over every past exam that existed. Every past question hoping she would improve. I was starting to see that it might be a lost cause.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't apologise," I said. "It's ok. I'll get you through this!"

Although I said that. I regret it. Maybe this is what Owen was talking about? Many more hours passed and I was worried that my family would return at any moment. We started at midday and it's now 8 pm. We've been surviving off of nothing but sweets and water to keep us going. I've been messaging Owen secretly but he gave up responding. I even tried Sean but he got sick of me.

What if… I take her out to dinner? Would that be wrong of me? She has a boyfriend, should I ask? But, before I could, I was interrupted by my phone.

Ping

"Are you still studying?" A text message from Owen.

"Yes," I replied.

"Have you eaten dinner?" He asked.

"No, we were busy studying and forgot."

"Wanna go and eat?" How strange for him to ask. What is he planning?

"You can bring Kaylee. Ruby will be coming as well." He said.

THIS DUDE IS A GENIUS. He must be doing this for me. He must love me so much that he even went and got Ruby just so it wouldn't be awkward. Owen is a god. I've been too hard on him. He deserves everything. From now on I shall give him my firstborn.

"Hey, Kaylee," I asked. "Do you want to go out and eat?"

Kaylee's face turned bright red. Within a second her face caught alight but she was calm regarding the situation. Even I found it embarrassing to ask. When I told her Owen and Ruby would be there she went back to her usual skin colour and let out a cute giggle.

"Oh, Ruby will be there? Sure!"

"I wonder why she was with Owen though?" I asked.

"She told me she was going to get Owen to revise for the music exam or something."

I see...

So that's why he bailed on me.

That little bitch. He isn't a god. He left me so he could flirt with Ruby. I had to suffer why he was laughing and smiling with some girl. I was a fool to think he was something better. I'm not giving him my firstborn.
