I and my friends walked up the staircase. Josh noticed I had a dead look on my face so he took action.
He nudged me on the shoulder and I looked up at him. "You alright? You look like your having a PTSD flashback." He chuckled after that pretty offensive joke but I was too traumatized to laugh.
"While I was walking around the furnace's, there was this slave on the ground, skin and bones. I tried to get him up but just a guard came by and..." I gagged, thinking of the aftermath of the shot. "You don't have to continue..." Josh said quickly. I nodded and we left the staircase into an elevated room. It was defiantly a break room before the bombs, and it still is. A few guards sat at tables, chatting, eating and enjoying themselves. Hard to think monsters like these have lives as well.
We walked past them to another set of stairs with a sign above it that read "The Tops". We walked out of the room and up a short set of stairs to the roof of the factory.
We walked through a red metal door with chipped paint and rust to the roof. We looled into the distance, seeing the fire and smole rising into the sky. The skeletons of skyscrapers stood tall, pieces falling off them from time to time. After a few minute, we broke out of our trance. A rope bridge connected this roof to the other. This was where the slavers I have to call them now. These are no thugs. But its where they lived.
We walked across the rope bridge that was about 20 feet in the air, which made me pretty nervous. I was between Josh and Raymir as we came to the other roof. There was a large structure with walls and a roof of sheet metal. It took up half of the roof which was pretty impressive because it was on top of an apartment building, so it had to be at least two medium sized apartments big.
There was a few tables with umbrellas attached to them, the holes from the blast making them useless. A wooden sign above the door had the name "Burners bar" in roughly painted white letters with a badly drawn drawing of a beer bottle on it. I looked around the roof and the only other bridges were coming out of the bar.
We walked up to the screen door and opened it up. As expected, the place was a mess. There were multiple drunken fights going on and beer, I hope, spilled all over the ground. I lead the way, squeezing past crowds and avoiding fallen people. We made it to the bar finally and found out why its called burners bar. The bartender had a huge burn scar on the left side of his face. Either that or he works here and irony had fun on this one.
We walked past the bar and began walking towards the door on the right. A woman was leaning against the wall next to the doorway and I noticed her staring at me. When she saw I noticed she seductively whistled at me. I blushed and quickened my pace out of the bar.
This bridge was made of construction scaffolding and brought us into a hole in the wall of a slightly larger apartment building. This building was on the edge of the wall and all the rooms on the side facing out were being used as guard posts with snipers in. Some rooms even had mounted machine guns and that's when I started questioning where they got all the guns.
All the other rooms were just sleeping quarters. Lots were extremely dirty with needles all over and broken glass everywhere. The place was a dead end so we walked back to the bridge and crossed back to the bar. When we entered, I looked back in the spot where the woman was and was kind of disappointed that she was no longer standing there.
I quickly got over my missed shot and walked to the other door to the other bridge to the other nearby building. Again, it was kind of taller but the bridge led up to the roof. This was an office building that didn't really have a use and strangely didn't have the front door blocked even though it leads out to the slave area.
We went down half of the eleven floors or so when we heard something from the floor we were on. "What was that?" Raymir whispered quickly. I pulled my pistol out and turned on the flashlight since it was getting dark.
I walked briskly into the labyrinth of cubicles, checking in everyone. After I checked all of them, I heard a door close nearby. I looked in the sound's direction, I saw the door to a janitor closet. I walked towards it, calling Josh and Raymir over. I turned the knob but it was locked. Not wanting to attract anyone from up stairs, Josh took his wrench and broke the lock. After that I kicked open the door an pointed my gun in.
Two slaves were pressed against the back wall. They looked terrified as they looked down the barrel of my pistol. Once I realized who they were, I lowered my gun. They gave us confused look. Still terrified, but confused. I knew we would have to explain who we were
