Chapter 4 : The Start Of An Adventure

The figure that jumped in front of Layla, whilst holding a hammer larger than itself screaming "Don't worry my friend, I will protect you" in a squeaky but strong voice. The hammer looked old at the handle but the main part looks brand new. The handle had red fluffy fur that was down at the end with metal that covered the base. The main part of the hammer which was bigger than the figure's size was also made of metal with a bronze line that cause the hammer to thin a little at the sides along with a circular bronze metal plate at top the that appears to be glued there.

Although the hammer didn't looked really strong, Saber could feel a very powerful energy that was pulsing inside that hammer, which was most probably the cause of the yellowish thin circular layer surrounding the figure and Layla. The figure looks to be about the size of a midget as it looked mature but was extremely short. The figure had pinkish tangerine skin with big bulging eyes and long pointy ears that wasn't covered by a leather helmet with goggles with a scarf that was tied with excessive strands long enough to reach its knee. It had metal gloves on its hand and a leather torso with metal shoulder blades while wearing a utility belt around it's waist and jean pants that was rolled up above the knee and long socks up to the knee with leather boots.

"Wait a minute, long pointy ears..... " Saber thought, processing the information. "Are an elf?!" he said in a surprised tone. "What if I am? Are you going to hurt my friend?" it, or rather she said in a strong voice. Just as she said that a long yellowish rectangular barrier appears in front of her while at the same time two metal pieces on the hammer disappeared, separating Layla and the elf from Saber. "No no no, I was just surprised that an elf as small as yourself is able to handle this hammer with ease and I came here because she led me inside this weird place so I could explain to her what happened while she was in a trance of some sort" he said quickly while gesturing Layla to speak up. She still had a shocked look on her face but she said "It's okay Lolita, you don't have to protect me with that thing of yours you know, it scares people." saying on a tone that meant she was accustomed to this. "Fine" the elf named Lolita said while dispersing the barrier between them and while placing the hammer down with a loud 'thunk' in an unsatisfied tone. "So what were you thinking bringing a piece of living metal into the lab?" Lolita said exasperated. "I'm not a piece of living metal!" he exclaimed but Lolita just rolled her eyes. "Saber saved me from.... something and I want to know what happened when I um.. sorta blacked out" Layla said embarrassingly. "Alright you pile of scrap you're free for now but I got my eye on you" Lolita said in a suspicious tone.

He eyed wearily at Lolita and then began. "Well I was about to doze off when I heard a scream that pierced my eardrums" Layla glowed a bright red just as he said that. "I ran as fast as I could to the source and I found her" he said pointing at Layla. " Push against a wall by a figure with metal tentacles that was coming from its hat" Layla shivered when he said that "While you had a blank stare on your face was mumbling something while trembling, that's all I know" the lab was filled with pin drop silence as the two girls try to process the information.

"Is what he saying true?" Lolita ask which was directed at Layla. "Yes.. ""How come? You're the strongest and most stubborn person I know!" Layla had a weak look on her face while her eyes was starting shimmer. "Im-im sorry, I was reliving a past experience... no a horror" she said as her eyes shimmered more. "What?! That's your excuse!? Stop faking the tears, you've done this a million times and I see you've improved with the acting, trying to lure him into a trap I presume?" she yelled. Saber interjected with "Hey now, I think she's really going through a hard time, maybe you should tone it down a little" "You don't understand do you, I'm trying to save you being lured into her trap, she has always done this acting so that those guys are suppose to pity her and all that, after they leave she laughs while saying "Boys are so gullible"" she with a slightly higher tone.

That sentence was the breaking point, as small droplets of water came out of Layla's eyes, she fell to the ground as her knees loss their strength. "Layla!" they both yelled while running to her. "Im-im sorry I made you think this way Lolita, i-i thought you were cool with it, but huh.. guess I was wrong" she said while choking on her own tears. "The-the reason why I spa-spaced out wa-was because I thought of h-how they died". Saber still had no clue what she was trying to say but apparently Lolita had finally gotten the point. "I am so, so sorry i-i didn't know you were thinking about them, I put you through a hard time" she said apologetically. "It's fine" she said while wiping away her tears and continued "the past is the past and we can't ever, ever change that" she said trying to be strong "No matter how hard we try" she said the last part inaudibly. She then turned and said something to Lolita while trying to calm herself, it probably was something shocking as she had a shocked face after hearing it.

Lolita turned her head from Layla to Saber, "Look Saber was it? I believe you and I know that the thing you saw is going to come back" still confused as what was going he just nodded im agreement. "I don't know if you trust me in this but I think that thing was after Layla" Saber was shocked, 'Why would something as that go after an innocent girl?' he wondered in his mind. "The reason why she cried was because of a bad memory, I believe you heard that much" he nodded, unsure of where this is going. "Tell me Saber, did you see anything out of the ordinary?" Saber really didn't want to remember had happened but tries his best, while replaying the scene in his head he remembered he saw something shimmer for a second under the moonlight right before the figure disappeared without a trace. "I remember seeing this thing that shined-""That's it! Layla allowed me to say this but I don't really want to put it in too much detail so, when she was small her dad neglected her dream, a few years later demons came and attack her house killing her mom and her dad being the drunkard he is, ran away like a coward leaving Layla to fend for herself." Saber was shocked, when though he never had a father figure in his life but he knew this wasn't right. "The demons all had this symbol on their chest or arms which was a curvy radioactive sign, that was what she saw on that figure's chest, causing her to spaced as she remembered that horrible time." Still in utter shock and disbelief, Saber found the words to finally form the question he wanted to ask "How did she survive that attack?" Lolita pointed at the giant metallic gun laying on the stained table on a pure while area. 'How did I not notice something so big?' he questioned himself.

"Look Saber, Layla is in danger, the demon came here to take her, I won't tell you why as it's personal, I'll allow her to say it at the time when she's ready.""I understand" Lolita then sighed and look at Layla like a mother looking at her daughter. "I need a favor from you" she said, still not taking her eyes of Layla. "If you really think that after all this madness and threatening situation I'm gonna help you-""It's not for me, it's for her" she said, determination in her eyes. "Look, I know who you are Regulator of Demons so please I beg you please go ahead and take care of that thing personally and bring her along because she holds a huge secret in which, if founded out by demons, would lead to the devastation of The Land of Dawn." she said in a serious tone.

Saber looked at the petite feline that was caressing the canon on the table, she looked so strong yet so fragile. *Sigh* "Guess I have no choice, I was programmed to protect this land anyway." He got up and walked to Layla who was still holding her gun as if it was a baby. "Layla-""I heard the conversation, so are you willing to do it?" she said while she still had her eyes on the canon. "I have no choice, protecting this land is my purpose here I believe." "If that's your choice that first we need to get out of here, I believe you know they way?" "Of course I do, now come on time is at waste" "I just hope that thing wasn't a servant of a demon" she said wearily.

Meanwhile, in the Abyss.

"So boy what news have you got for me?" came an eerie voice from the shadows. A squeaky but strong voice came from a short silhouette that was kneeling down "I have found the girl but I wasn't able to get any information because someone showed up and blew my cover" it said angrily. "No need for anger, now tell me, how does this person look like?" the eerie voice replied. "He had two nanosabers and was blue all over that's all I saw master" the short silhouette added "master" as an apology for flaring up. "So he interrupted us again eh? Well I can't forgive him this time, it's too important, you are dismissed." "Thank you master" the short silhouette disappeared in the absolute darkness because of this night without stars, but the moon shone like a candle in the darkness, pushing away all things unclean through its light. "The moon is extremely bright tonight, must be a sign" it giggled in happiness. "I hope you two are ready to feel the power of demonic transformation" it said with the eerie voice changing to something more deep and distorted to the moon as blue mist started to form around it.
