chapter 5 Is there anywhere safe?

"Hey? I spoke but got no response. Nothing but pain entered from my shoulder, I could only see my immediate surroundings. I Was laying in a tent, I must have been out for a while. Hey! I shouted this time with a coarse voice. To my rescue came Vanessa. "It's about time you woke up. She acted as if it were nothing, but her eyes told a different story. "Where are we? I then added, I'm starving. "Good thing Alex is already cooking, were in a valley. Vanessa laughed. How are you feeling? "Pain, I cant remember what happened, was I shot? "Here drink this first, Vanessa handed me a cup of water. She then continued to explain. When we got out of the city, you passed out there wasn't anything we could do so Alex Drove until we wound up here. Luckily the bullet wasn't deep I managed to pull it out but I'm no doctor. I sighed, after gulping down the water. "My answer is yes By the way. "Yes to what? Vanessa must of forgotten already. "You asked if I was your friend, my answer is yes. Vanessa laughed but then slowly began to blush. "I can't believe you remembered that. "Did you find out what was in those files by any chance? "Uh right, so the one labeled orders, they were holding us inside the city there wasn't much to go on but no one was supposed to leave, I guess my job was to add everyone's names into their data. As for project Z it's some kind of experiment most of the file was blacked out other than the word Zombie and this name signed at the bottom, Daniel Selvast. "Thats my dad's name, but why would he be involved? "You never mentioned your dad. Vanessa said. Just then Alex walked in with three plates of food. "That's because his dad disowned him when he was three. "Not entirely, He did take care of us in his own way. "Eat for now then get some rest okay. A few days had past as I recovered but we were running low on food, luckily a there was a forrest not to far from us, so Alex went hunting while Vanessa and I stayed at camp. "Glad to see your finally up and moving, Vanessa said. "Anything I can do to help? If it wasnt for Alex we probably would of died by now I dont know anything about survival. I thought to myself. "Uh yeah you can help me do the laundry. We walked down by the river and started to drench the clothes in the water. "So, I haven't gotten a thank you yet. Vanessa said. "Yeah sorry thanks for saving my life. The summer air felt nice, the sound from the stream. It was interupted when Vanessa shouted. "Watch out! behind me was a zombie reaching out were his dead hands. the wound in my shoulder made it difficult to run leaving me only one option. I kicked the zombie right in his leg but to my surprise it had almost no affect. Pushing me down into the river, I could only defend with my left arm. I tried all I could gasping for air, my arm slipped as the zombie bit down, I screamed out in agony. Once again to my rescue Vanessa speared the head of the zombie with a stick as it tumbled over into the river. "Your arm! Even without her telling me I knew what would come next. "I'm gonna turn arent I? just like my mom did. I got out of the water and sat down in a ball. "it's not fair, Vanessa sat down beside me. We can't tell Alex, maybe if we tie it off or something it won't spread right? "What's the point Vanessa I'm already infected, peroxide didn't even work on my mom, the bandage I put on her was tight so if that we're the case, she would of been fine. "You can't just give up like that! "Why not it's either wait until I turn or just end it here. "Let's just go back and wait it out, okay? "Just promise me one thing Vanessa.
