Conflict

Third Person POV

"Well, not to alarm everyone but we're running out of food", Samuel spoke holding his broken fingers, rummaging through the pantry.

Lenè glanced over at him as she sat on the sofa in the living room. She then glanced over at Dr.Kisluve as he closed his research book."How many days worth of food do we have in there?"

Samuel stared at him "About three days worth."

Lenè stood up walking over to Samuel, her uncle. She smiled at him "Is it okay if I take a look at your hand?"

He finally turned his back "I rather have Dr.Kisluve take a look at it, no offense, I don't want Damien breathing down my neck over you."

"I understand", Lenè responded with sadness in her voice.

Samuel sighed as Lenè turned her back after Dr. Kisluve had shot him a glare "Fine, let's see how good you are."

Lenè smiled and gave him a big hug. He couldn't bring himself to hug back so he stood there , awkwardly.

Lenè pushed herself back "Could you move your hand for me?"

He winced in pain as he rotated his hand . Lenè glanced over at Dr. Kisluve "Did you hear a crack then a pop afterwards when my father twisted his hands."

Ken nodded. Lenè touched Samuel's hand off guard as he winced in pain again. Lenè nodded "It's broken, there's swelling, bruising, deformity, and inability to move the fingers."

"You're going to need a splint, especially for the swelling. After the swelling goes down, you'll need a cast."

Lenè signaled Dr. Kisluve over, Kisluve couldn't help but smile, he patted Lenè on the back "You did well, especially without medical school experience."

"I'll splint it, carefully go get your aunt for me", Kisluve asked.

When Lenè left the room, Samuel stared at Dr. Kisluve "The only good thing I can say about my brother is that he knows how to raise his daughter right."

Ken splinted his fingers standing by the pantry , as he nodded.

"You love her, don't you?", Samuel asked.

He finished splinting his fingers "We have to alert Damien about the supply shortage, chances are we have to go out and scavenge for supplies."

"Alert me, about what?", Damien asked lurking around the corner.

Alice came out of the room holding her stomach, she then stood beside Damien, now grasping his arm. Samuel tried to leave the kitchen but was stopped by Jeanette and Lenè leaving the hallway. Jeanette spotted Samuel's hand "He really did break your hand… I thought it was a sprain."

Samuel scoffed "We're running out of food, and we'll probably have to fight the infected to get it, and obviously we can't let the women go with us."

Damien leaned against the wall "Okay, well, Jeanette's husband, Ken, and Noah, we'll go out with the proper PPE, and we'll use the car, we might need guns, because it's them or us."

Damien approached Samuel, gently pulling Alice's hand off his arm. He whispered in Samuel's ear "Don't you dare flirt, or touch any of them while I'm gone, consider yourself lucky I broke your hand."

Jeanette crossed her arms "I don't want neither my husband nor my son going."

Noah opened his door "I'll go, Damien, I've been out there, I know how everything is outside."

Damien gave him a serious look "How is it out there?"

Noah looked down"The non-infected were killing each other, while the infected were dying on the streets clinging to life. It's only a matter of time before they try to come into our research lab, we didn't even secure the other side of the abandoned hospital we set camp in a while back."

Damien sighed "Great, so there's two things we need to do."

"I guess we'll secure the place before we go then afterwards, do you have any weapons? Preferably shotguns?"

Ken sighed, as he crossed his arms leaning against the fridge"That's unnecessary."

Damien glanced at Lenè before answering Ken "Go out & look for yourself, it is necessary. Things are different from when you first arrived and everything looked somewhat normal. Think Kisluve, think."

Damien sighed "We'll leave tomorrow afternoon, but I need all the men up by sunrise to secure our perimeter."

Lenè brushed past Jeanette as Damien paused in his tracks as he tried to leave "Yes, Lenè?"

Lenè handed him something from her dress pocket, she remained silent then walked over to Dr. Kisluve. Damien looked in his folded hand then nodded. He signaled for Alice to follow him, he watched Alice give Lenè a look of disgust before he gently pulled her by the arm.

Damien stopped in his tracks before entering his room "Lenè, stop by later."

He then disappeared into his room. Lenè leaned onto Dr.Kisluve's shoulder. Jeanette glanced at Samuel then walked into her room. Samuel grabbed booze out the fridge, popping it open with his teeth before lying on the couch. He glanced over at Lenè "You're a smart girl, but don't be fooled by Damien's antics. When he gets what he wants from you, it either leads to love or destruction."

Dr.Kisluve folded his arms, he couldn't think about it any longer, he quickly tugged on Lenè's arm, gently pushing her back into his room.

He closed the door behind him "Promise me you'll be safe if I leave. Samuel dosen't worry me as much as Damien does, but still…"

Lenè sat on his bed once more "I understand."

Lenè continued "I still have to take care of the children, though, father dosen't want them out yet. I-

Ken interrupted "Let him take care of them, if he dosen't you're more than welcome to say something, take a step back, Lenè, please?"

Lenè nodded. Ken apologized, he felt as if he were being controlling "I'm sorry I would never force you to do anything you didn't want to do but-

Lenè cut him off by kissing him slowly. She spoke assertively "I understand."

Ken started to blush, but he immediately dropped his flustered look exchanging it for a serious one.

"Listen, Lenè if I die out there, it wouldn't be an accident, Damien would probably kill me."
