This Changed Everything

Matthew eased Ivy back slowly so it wouldn't go from silence to thousands of voices at once to minimize the damage to her auditory cortex. It still hurt more than she could describe and she momentarily blacked out from the pain, moaning in agony.

'What's happening? Is she okay? Is she going to die right in front of me?!' Carson internally panicked.

Her tears flowed harder. She could hear him again. For one beautiful moment she hadn't been able to but now she had to go back to his familiar internal fretting. How was she supposed to go back to the way things were now that she knew the possibility of freedom from her curse?

So many voices crowding her previously empty head. There was no way she was going to be able to drive home after this. At least not for a good long while until her brain adjusted to the shift of going from chaos to silence and back again.
