Gram never learned combat, he was an economist and a businessman, not a soldier, so when it came time to find a trainer for Jez, he had to ask the governor for advice. The governor laughed and introduced Gram to the knight commander for Morris. After some conversation, the knight commander, whose name is Crisk, agreed to train Jez, but Jez would have to stay at the wall outpost for the first month. After the arrangements were made there was a toast.
5:00 AM, Gaurd bunks.
Jez has been training for three days, he hated life. Waking up a 5 AM to start PT, which lasted at least an hour if not 2. To normal people, a mile run sounds fine, but to a 12-year-old, it was noticeably more difficult, not to mention the subsequent strength and weapons training that followed "warm-up". After morning PT, there were tactics and strategy classes taught by the guard captain, followed by his normal classes and his self-training on magic. A grueling schedule, but Jez was able to endure. All the while time dragged on. As Jez stayed longer, the training became easier, he became more limber, agile, and strong, his endurance was through the roof as well. At this point, he realized that he was at the peak mortal rank and would need to take herbs and rare ingredients to rank up to the relentless rank. He had to undergo the Herbal Baptism, the draft required a large number of herbs and a skilled alchemist to craft this, because of this relentless rank warriors were rare to see on the battlefield. Jez was positive he could find the herbs near the city, they were quite common, the problem was the quantity he needed to find was rather problematic, he would have to ask the guard captain if he could leave camp in his free time, with that eventually he would be able to collect enough herbs for the Herbal Baptism draft.
"Captain Crisk, I was wondering if I could spend my free time outside the camp," said Jez.
"And what inspired you to ask such a thing," replied Crisk with a cross voice, whilst looking up from his papers.
"Well, I was wanting to go into the local woods and see if I could harvest some herbs" Jez's reply was nonchalant and calm.
"I see nothing wrong with it, but you must remember to come back to camp before sundown.". Jez was ecstatic, he now had permission to leave the base to harvest herbs, he could also ask his dad for help creating the herbal baptism draft, after all his dad is in charge of herb and medicine import of Morris.
It took much longer than expected to collect the herbs for the brew, almost three whole months. Jez had finally accomplished the task and had moved to the next part of his plan.
Grams job was no parts easy, on the surface, it may just seem like he is working on the basic imports and exports, but in reality, he has to sort through everyone who enters the citie of Morris with care. Looking for contraband and smuggling, not to mention the occasional traffic of sentient beings for the medicinal properties in their bodies, the number of mandragora he had found was startling. In the human kingdom of Orber, the kingdom in which Morris is a part of, had made the enslavement of non-humans illegal eons ago. On one day he received a package from his son and seeing that it was something that distracted him from his daily monotony, he opened it instantly, inside he saw a large number of herbs and medicine along with a letter. His son was asking for the help of his father to make an herbal baptism draft, which on its own wasn't hard, but required lots of time and herbs, seeing that his son had already procured the herbs necessary for the draft, all he needed to do was find an alchemist willing to make the draft. After that requirement was met, the draft took five whole days to complete it.
