I Hate This Place

August ignored the phone call, again and again. He didn't even care who called him. He finally lose his patience on the seventh time. He picked up the call without looking the caller ID.

"What is it?" His voice was cold and barely above whisper. All his energy were drained.

"Where are you? I already waited for you for two hours." It was Scarlett talking on the phone with her sweet honey voice.

August face turned sour as he heard Scarlett's voice. He regretted for picking up the call. "I didn't think we have any plans today." He bluntly responded.

Though August's words were sharp, Scarlett noticed there was something wrong. Though she was hurt by August behaviour towards her, she wanted to make up with him. She put her pride aside and tried to changed his mind.

"Is there something wrong?" She asked with a gentle voice, trying her best to be patient with him.

"That's none of your business." August was tired of her. In his present condition, he barely managed to talked. But here she keep on asking him questions, like she ever truly cared about him. He was tired of the drama in his life.

"Tell me. Where are you?" Scarlett repeated herself, continued being stubborn.

"Somewhere in the outskirts of the city." August hung up the call.

August didn't lied. He really didn't know where he was. He had a headache due to the sunlight and even suffered from dehydration. He even find it difficult to moved his hands.

Though August didn't tell her his location, Scarlett can easily know his location. He already installed a GPS phone tracker on his cellphone which connected with hers. August didn't know anything about it.

Around five hours ago, Scarlett woke up from her sleep earlier than usual, only to find out that August was near Isla's house. She was filled with fear of losing him. She already knew that August like Isla. What if Isla like him back? What if August only care about her in the future? These thoughts made her crazy. The devil inside her took the best of her.

She waited August near his house for the past two hours, only to find out that August went somewhere far. She called him to personally hear his location from him, so that he won't doubt her. But as she failed, she had no choice but to went to him. She drove her car to the outskirts of the city.

Three hours had passed, August was barely awake. The sun drained the little energy left on his body. There are not much people or vehicles crossing the road where he was sitting. He felt like his head was about to explode. He was pale and thirsty. He had a high fever. He almost lose his consciousness.

August collapsed on the ground. As he was about to passed out, he saw a car stopped in front of him. He barely noticed that a girl was approaching him. But his vision was blur by now, he was unable to saw the face of the girl. Just like that, he was unconscious.

With the help of some people around them, Scarlett managed to put August inside her car. Though he was unconscious, she poured some water into his mouth, which made him a little better. She hurriedly drove him to a small hospital nearby.

August condition was not that severe. His fever had gone down. It was around 2 in the afternoon. After staying in a hospital room for about one hour, his body heat was cooled down and he barely regained his consciousness. Though his vision was not yet clear, he first noticed that he was lying in a hospital bed, one of the things he hated the most in the world. He then noticed Scarlett sitting beside his bed, eagerly waiting for him to wake up.

"Are you awake?" Scarlett said with a warm yet worried voice.

"I hate this place." He whispered, while trying to get up and sit.

"Rest a bit more. You're not stable enough." She stood up, trying to call for the doctor.

August grabbed her wrist. He was never patient with her. But today, she was his savior. He didn't want to returned her kindness by being harshed towards her. "Please. I really hate this place. It reminds me of my childhood. The time when I spent the whole year in the hospital." He lowered his voice, his eyes softened.

When August was seven years old, he was hit by a car while playing with his friends. He was severely injured. The recovery process in the hospital took one long year. During the time of the accident, he was about to joined an elementary school. The accident made him unable to attend the school that year. So in academic terms, he was beneath his friends who were the same age as him. While almost all the children of his age started school at the age of seven, the accident forced him to start school at the age of eight.

August even started having a trauma due to this accident. For one whole year, he was confined in a hospital room, lying in a bed. His legs were almost damaged but luckily, he recovered. Countless of medicines and injections were given to him. After being discharged, he never wanted to stepped his foot inside the hospital again, a place which he called hell.

August recalled all his painful memories and traumatic experience in the hospital. It was too much for a child!

Scarlett stared at August. He was as pale as a ghost. She didn't know why he was traumatized by the hospital but she understands him. She too was traumatized by some events. "Okay. I'll call the doctor. Let's return after he checked your condition." She approached the door and opened. Just before she stepped out of the room, she turned to August. "I'm sorry about the tracker on your cellphone." She added. Then she closed the door.

August was a bit shocked by her words, but it was not unexpected of her. He knew Scarlett very well. She was spoiled by her parents, giving her all the things she ever wanted. It became a habit of hers. If she ever set her eyes on something, she won't stop until she achieve it. She didn't care about the things she did in order to have the things she want. But it was not only her fault; her parents raised her that way.

August had known Scarlett for more than four years, but it was the first time she ever apologized to him. It was not only him, Scarlett never apologized to anyone. So August made up his mind not to throw a fit about the tracker, he decided to let go.
