August and Scarlett were riding Scarlett's car. Though August said that he was fine, he was not completely fine. He still had a low fever, a headache and to tell the truth, he barely managed to keep his eyes open. Apart from any other pain, his heart was the thing that hurts the most.
He keeps on recalling the shocking scene he personally witnessed early in the morning - their intimate hug and a bitter truth. He didn't think he could afford to lose Isla. But the other time, he hated himself for unable to accept the reality. He hated himself for realizing her value to him too late. If he realized a bit earlier and chased after her, will the outcome be different?
August was lost in his thoughts. He didn't even realized that he didn't talked and keep on staring the same spot for almost ten minutes!
Scarlett, who was busy driving the car was really amazed by August's behaviour. She thought to herself "What exactly happened this morning?"
"Are you alright?" Scarlett asked August while still gluing her eyes on the road.
"Yes. I'm fine." August answered with a low voice. His voice were lifeless unlike other days.
August was never the quiet type. Scarlett was well aware of his behaviour, which made her more worried as he continued to keep his mouth shut.
"I don't think so." Scarlett glance at him but quickly paid attention to the road again.
August didn't respond. He turned his head to the window and watched the beautiful scenery - trees, buildings and lastly the clouds in the sky. He forced a little smile. To him, Isla was more beautiful and pure than all of them combined.
Whatever August did, Scarlett was confused more and more. Was it because of that naive girl? What did she do to August to made him behaved like this? She gritted her teeth. She was filled with anger. What would I do to make her disappear from August life? She tried to act normal, not wanting to let August know about her dirty thoughts.
"Is it about Isla again?" She asked him in a gentle voice which covered her dirty thoughts well.
"No." August simply responded. He didn't want to talked about Isla. It would hurt him more. He was hurt enough for the day. He wouldn't afford to suffer any more pain.
August answer was not convincing for Scarlett. She knew there's something wrong between August and Isla. The fact that August was beside Isla's house in the morning, as early as 5 a.m. already proved so. But she didn't know what exactly was going on. She knew August won't tell her, so she didn't bother to asked him more.
It was almost 7 in the night. After more than three hours of driving, they finally reached their town. Scarlett offered to drive him home but August refused. He didn't want to went home with his present condition. He didn't want to make his father worry about him. He preferred to stay the night at some nearby hotel. He had a habit of spending the night at Dylan's house; so if he lie to his father and tells him that he will be spending the night there, he won't be suspicious of him.
Scarlett still offered to dropped him off at the hotel. August was a bit reluctant, but finally agreed as his condition was not stable enough to wander alone.
The two searched for available hotel rooms. It was a bit difficult to find a room at such time. Unexpectedly yet luckily, there was one room available at the Silver Isle Hotel due to the canceling of reservation. It was a place where Isla's father worked as the General Manager.
August checked in at the room for the night. As all his energy were drained before, he still didn't have the strength to walk properly. He was feeling dizzy, which make it more difficult for him to walk. Scarlett helped him to walk to the room.
As soon at they entered the room, August sleep on the bed right away. He was utterly exhausted. Just like that, he fell asleep. Though many dirty thoughts crossed Scarlett's mind, she barely managed to ignore them. She tried to left the room.
While Scarlett was approaching the door to went home, August phone went off. The sound of the phone startled Scarlett, who was trying her best not to make even the smallest sound. She didn't want to wake up August as he looked so tired and exhausted.
She took the phone and looked at the caller ID. She was filled with anger and frustration as she read the name 'ISLA.' She switched to silent mode. But as she tried to put back the phone, Isla's sent a message. She already pressed the open button before she even realized.
The message reads "August, you didn't picked up my call since yesterday. I'm so worried about you. Is there something wrong? Please call me if you see this message."
Scarlett tried her best to ignore the disgusting plan inside her mind. She put down the phone many times but it came back to her hands again and again, as if it was a magnet. After struggling for ten minutes, the devil inside her took the best of her, once again. It was the longest time she could ever hold back herself, trying to forget what she wanted to do.
She took the phone and type a message and send it to Isla. The message reads "Sorry, Isla. I had a fever since yesterday. I'm currently at Silver Isle Hotel. Would you like to come over?"
Isla replied the message right away. She agreed to come over to visit August. Scarlett texted her the room number.
Scarlett smiled wickedly as her plan was about to succeed....
