"Why would you pick me?... I don't exactly look very attractive..."
"I'd rather have a girl that does that instead of just being pretty all the time. You know us to be fighters in battle. And looks do not help one bit. I need a fighter and partner. One that I can entrust my back with. And that would be none other than you."
"Even when there were so many obstacles in front of you. Even when everyone wanted you to stop. You didn't just go against the grain, you rammed right through it, saving us from another Husks Wave. You bonded others together, creating such a beautiful family below us."
Mavislin did something that not even her parents or Raiyen could think of. She leaned into Raiyen and gave a little peck on his lips using her lips. Raiyen was dazed and confused as he never thought Mavislin would be that bold.
This was his first time properly asking someone to be his partner for the rest of his life. Not some fling. Not a one-night stand to get information out. Nothing but pure emotion and feeling to ask the love of his life to be his girlfriend. And to confess to her at the same time.
"Well, forgive me if I have the wrong reaction just now. It's the first time someone told me that they love me. But I do have feelings for you. And yes, I would like you to be by my side as well. Good to have a lifelong partner and someone to come home to," replied Mavislin, with a beaming smile.
"Hang on... It's your first time that someone said they loved you? In a romantic sense? So, you've got quite a lot of people asking you out instead?" asked Raiyen, butterfly confused.
"Yep, most of the junior Mages I teach were always handing me like flowers or sweets. It was their way of asking me out but I turned them down. Or even on missions, I had some drunk try to propose to me before and Minwoo decapitated the drunkard in an instant."
"Ah, I'm glad that he isn't around..."
A change within the cool air of the night caused Mavislin to glance around.
"And if we're together, I expect that game of yours and Tomoe to end now," said Mavislin.
She then abruptly yanked something out from the dark from behind her. And a familiar cry of help was heard. Raiyen was stunned.
"How did you know?" asked Raiyen, stammering when Tomoe appeared.
He knew he was in hot water now alongside his Familiar. He may be the one who boasted to protect Mavislin but in terms of reality, Mavislin would be the one to overpower him.
"The game? That was easy. With my sense of hearing, I could tell you two were fighting over me. Even Rina could tell from a mile away. And Bryan struck up a deal with the Kitsune to train him in his swordsmanship so that Bryan would ask me to bring Tomoe along for the next mission."
"Hello, Tomoe," greeted Mavislin, still holding onto his fluffy tail.
"I'm very sorry! I didn't think you'll figure me out..." said Tomoe, bowing down to Mavislin.
"Who are you fooling? Your scent was overpowering my dinner," said Mavislin, with an angry expression.
Tomoe swallowed nervously as he tried to run away from the livid Valkyrie. But there was no way the Familiar would turn his back on an angry Valkyrie unless he wanted a death sentence.
"If you were trying to ruin the dinner and Raiyen's plan to propose, then sad to say that you've lost this bet, Tomoe. And continue to train Bryan, or else I'll have you buried underneath the Old Chapel. Alive," commanded Mavislin, with her eyes shining gold and red with fury.
"Yes, Lady Roydon..." stammered Tomoe as he stood behind his owner.
"And don't worry. I'll be bringing you along on the next mission. And since you are Raiyen's Familiar, I think you would be useful for us for the coming spell tomorrow," added Mavislin, inhaling once more.
"I think it's best if he doesn't help us... He needs to train your underling, right? Perhaps we'll let him do just that?" asked Raiyen, holding onto Mavislin's hand.
"I guess that would be better. Alright then, you will be training Bryan for the next few weeks to come. Or until I have seen vast improvements in his skills well enough for the next missions. And I expect by then, his breathing patterns will be at a better level than now."
"I hope to see you tomorrow, Raiyen. And Tomoe, don't try to follow us or else I'll have you gone in an instant. Crystal?" ordered Mavislin.
"Clear!" yelled the two as Mavislin flew back into the Old Chapel, ending the lovely night.
