"Yes. I do not find any use in it. I am better as a combatant than a Mage. And besides, I've known others that were in the same place as me. And they've all died, their powers were too much for their physical bodies. I've got a human shell but a Mage's power. I don't want to end up like them."
"Do not find any use for it? You nearly took me out because of said powers! I beg to differ that you don't have any use for your powers. Besides, without them you wouldn't have stood a chance against Ysabeau or the final fight back in Albion, right?" asked Tomoe, sounding quite upset.
"I know, but for how long? How long would I continue like this before I implode on the inside? The lot of you are Pure Mages, meaning that your bodies are built to house rising levels of Elemental Energy. I'm human, I've got a human body for crying out loud!" yelled Bryan, on the verge of tears.
"It's like forcing an ocean's worth of water into a small barrel! I never asked for these powers! And I'm downright scared of what's going to happen to me! And it's not that I hate them, I love my Element but not enough to die from it," finished the Slayer, breathing heavily.
Raiyen glared daggers at Tomoe, who continued to eat like he didn't add fuel to the fire. His eyes then softened to comfort the poor man.
"Hey, I understand why you are upset. I don't like my powers either. Being a Time Mage has flaws as well, but ironically, it took time for me to understand and accept that fact. Ripping out powers from a Mage, even if it's a human one, would have dire consequences," comforted Raiyen.
"Have you guys ever done so? Ripping out an Element from a Mage?" asked Bryan, softly.
"It's called 'murder'. I've seen Old Man Pond do it countless times to the ones that opposed him. When Ysabeau joined, he toned it down significantly. But yes, it is possible but highly not recommended. Hell, I forbade it entirely for the Arks," answered Gillian, his eyes darkening.
"It's like taking away the ability to breathe for Mages. We are born with it and when that is taken away, we die with it," finished Gillian.
Bryan's reasons were acceptable, the reason why they don't know much about his Generation was because of the number of deaths within that category. They don't tend to live beyond the age of 25 and Bryan was turning 28 soon.
The only reason why he could survive so long was that he kept his power under control. More accurately, he underused his powers. He never really used it since the Five Kings doesn't permit the use of Magecraft. Well, at least not out in public.
He had to make up an explanation for the exploding glass marbles. Luckily, Yan was there to back him up and Minwoo believed it. But sooner or later, Minwoo gave up that rule and allowed Magecraft but that was during the Umbra fight.
"You've got a valid point but how about exploring other ways instead of erasing your power? It's a beautiful Element to have and it would be such a shame to see it go to waste," proposed Gillian.
"Headmaster's right. If you do eliminate your powers, we might have to kick you out of the Arks. Because our enemies are Magercraft users and having a human without powers in our ranks would just be suicidal for you. Do reconsider your request," agreed Baldwin, staring at Bryan.
Bryan was looking very stressed and conflicted about the options in front of him. Part of him wanted to argue with the higher-ups while the other part wanted to agree with what they said. They've provided an alternative but Bryan wanted to persist on his request.
On one hand, he had to give in to the fact that his powers were unique. And without them, he wouldn't have met the family he was eating with now. He wouldn't have seen so many beautiful things and met so many wonderful individuals. He wouldn't have known about his family.
The many adventures he was on when he was with Minwoo and Yan. The fights against Ysabeau and the recent duel against Tomoe... And his first mission with Mavislin. Those would have never happened if he did not have his powers. And being kicked out would be devastating for him as well.
It might even drive him to eternal depression. He would have no home to return to. His foster mother was missing ever since the day she dropped him off in Minwoo's care. With no home to go to, it would spell death for a normal human.
