But after explaining why, Mavislin found that this kid was more than an uncaring child. Duncan may be slightly emotionless, but his observations were better than the average combatant. Even Bryan couldn't figure that aspect out after fighting against Rina back in Albion.
It would appear that Mavislin was wrong about Midori being the original creator of the Blood Mastery. However, the Valkyrie felt that Duncan might have been given that mysterious blood first instead of Midori.
Duncan's Blood Mastery was the same as the rest, but he had chosen to use it as an aid to heighten his body endurance and strength. That would mean the boy had more control over his blood than the rest of the children, indicating a more mature power.
"But I count you as worthy of being the First Seats like the children behind me. But, of course, calling upon the deities of Death is not an easy task to handle, so we have to work on that for you. Other than that, you showed more discipline than your twin."
"Midori isn't going to be happy about this, but I'll handle her. All in all, I'm proud of you and that you were powerful enough to defy the Old Chapel. At most, the Old Chapel will throw a hissy fit by shifting your chair at the dining table, but it should be fine."
The Valkyrie smiled and embraced the child, much to his confusion.
"Let's go back for dinner. I hear that Clement has a feast for everyone to share. And all of you children are invited!" announced Mavislin, happily going over to the group.
As Raiyen and Tomoe rushed the kids to the nearby waterfall to wash up before dinner, Rina had time to contemplate her next session with the kids. Then, Mavislin and Rina went into the house to get some night clothes for the children and see if Midori was alright after the earlier duel.
"You've got that puppy look again. What is it that you want to ask me?" asked the Valkyrie, like a row of hanging clothes appeared in her wardrobe.
The Butterfly Mage was shocked as Mavislin figured out her expression that quickly.
"It's regarding the lesson for today. I thought that I did a terrible job as a teacher going up against my students. Circe and Amani were easy to handle, but Midori, Duncan, and Nasima were tough for me to control. I'm afraid that I'm not cut up to be their teacher," confessed Rina.
The Valkyrie paused in her search for clothes and sighed before seeing Rina's worried face. Mavislin then walked up to the Flower Mage and placed her hands onto Rina's shoulders.
"You're afraid that you're not strong enough to be their teacher? Why are you scared? Are you afraid of going overboard and killing them? Or are you afraid that you'll die from their little hands?" questioned Mavislin, forcing Rina to look into her now glowing red eyes.
Rina gulped as she had never seen Mavislin's glowing crimson eyes before. The Flower Mage trembled as the Valkyrie's words curled around her neck like a snake coiling its victim. But Rina closed her eyes before reopening them to reply to the Valkyrie.
"I am afraid that I would go overboard and kill them if I were to unleash a finishing blow spell onto them. I don't want to hurt the kids, but I can't coddle them forever. You've commanded me to train them. I want to train them as hard as I can, like how I fought against Midori, but I can't..."
"Because I'm terrified of losing another child again. I see them as my little ones, and I'm too scared to break them as I did as a researcher. I regret going against Midori so harshly, but I needed to show her my true power to get her respect."
"But, instead, I sent out the wrong message and caused her to get even more provoked. That's why I held back when it came to Nasima's and Duncan's rounds. But after the Marksman was down and you needed to step in, I thought that I failed as a teacher by not controlling my pupils enough."
Rina poured her heart out to Mavislin as she thought back about the whole day. The Valkyrie then sighed before releasing Rina from her hold and focusing back to search for the kids' clothes.
"So, what do you want to do? Would you like to stop being their teacher and caretaker?" asked Mavislin, deciding on a blue tunic for Amani to wear.
Perhaps tunics are the best for the five kids as nightwear, and to suit their unique powers, all of the tunics should be in different colors. The Old Chapel agreed and changed the hanging of clothes to a beautiful array of colorful tunics.
