DE:SCENT

This is a review of the first chapter. The heroine of the story is a female college student who was sent to her sick uncle’s house to take care of him. The uncle lives on a private island. While staying at her uncle’s home, she begins to be haunted by a male ghost. In general, the heroine’s actions are reasonable even if unwise. However, the heroine going to meet a stranger at an unfamiliar place without telling anyone about it seems to be outside the norm for a woman of her age. The story fluctuates between text messages and first person narrative. At times, the transitions between scenes are abrupt and awkward. There are also a scattering of run-on sentences. The depth of the overall plot makes up for some of the structural issues.
