Chapter 3:

Coincidence Never Speak The Truth

.

"I apologize."

.

"I'm sorry, but please, I need your help!"

"You know, Enra. we might be close, but this is too much for me..."

"I will take the consequences! just once! please!"

"Hmm... and your brother is scary, what if he punches my face? is there any assurance for me?"

"Yes, I will take care of the medical fees!"

"You, guys, both, listen! how did it end up like this?" Caya grabbed their shoulder as she trying to judge their decision. She looked to the short woman beside her then to the blue-haired man.

"Cay, help me. your pal is crazy."

"Kyle, that nowhere closer to answer..."

"Cayaaa, please! I'm in a dire situation right now!"

"Enra... just what kind of mistakes you did before? explain!"

Enra fidgets and resumed, "well, I... told my brother; I have a boyfriend."

Caya laughed and slamming the table where they gather at, "then, do as you say!"

"I did! I asked Kyle!" Enra pointed to a young man with ocean blue hair.

"You did not! You forced me!"

"Okay, okay, pfft..." Caya finally calmed down, "why would you lie to your brother? I mean, our chief, also you still didn't tell us the entire story of how you lied."

"Yeah, surely this is not your first time lying right?" Kyle added.

Enra sighed. "I'm just trying to… forget it. I will ask one of my subordinates." Afterward, Enra gulped down her orange juice.

Both of her friends was looking back at her and each other.

Caya makes a light cough, "I see, something happened and you need a proof for your broth- Chief Evans. Well, I don't think asking Kyle to act to be your boyfriend would rasterize the problem here. Since Chief Evans knows us very well. If may I add, Kyle will be a horrible boyfriend being."

"Hey, that's not true. I'm a man of my words. You should count how many ex-girlfriends regretted their choices for leaving me."

"See? I told you."

Listening to their bickering, Enra left with her own thought. Maybe someone outside her work's environment will do. It's not always Timothy to be her act-like-boyfriend. Someone will do. But, Enra realized, she never left her office and didn't have enough relations other than her workplaces.

Enra grabbed Caya's hand.

"Can you help me?"

Enra was finishing her last document to be signed as well as confirm all the reports to the head chief. Most likely she will be finished by nine o'clock but she has an urgent business this evening. Exactly at six o'clock she finished her works and make her way to the Chief's office.

"Deputy Chief Enra comes to report." Enra gives her chief a salute.

"…" Chief Evans replied to her salute but still as silent as possible, eyeing his step-sister with calm contempt.

"Total documents today are ten. Total letters today are twelve. All have been taken care of and will be replied as soon as your order. finish."

"…."

Silent filled the room. Enra hoping her chief will let her go today.

"Alright, I will finish the order."

Just that? Please say 'you may leave' to Enra.

"how come you finish this fast?"

Dang. Not any question.

"uh, I think I still need a rest to recover my left-hand so I wanted to take an early time to go home, Sir."

"…" Enra knew Chief is gazing her left-hand and sighed.

"if you need proper rest, you should just tell me and I will give you another day off."

Another your ass! Three days ago was detention!

"Thank you, Sir. But that would be troubling and I can do my task very well even with this condition."

Chief Evans stamped the paper he carried. "Alright, you may leave now."

Enra closed the door and let out a heavy breathes. It was tough inside. Her step brother's stare is not a play-thing. Feels like choking inside.

Enra quickly takes her bag and goes outside.

.

.

She takes a walk since her apartment didn't far enough from her office, unlike her step brother residence. She quickly ran to her place, take a shower, and change her attire to a simple blouse and long skirt. Last, she wearing her usual cardigan.

Enra locked her apartment and ready to dive her dinner outside.

She has a meeting with someone.

Chicken Faes.

Yes, this place. A common and conventional restaurant where they had a meeting. There is three floors inside. but, the second and third floors always crowded with people, especially students and colleges. There is a free wireless connection on that floor. Thus, people using the floors as a study places.

Enra orders a glass of water and a medium French fries. Then she sat at the table near the glass windows. Waiting for someone while munching her potato.

Still, ten minutes left before the appointed time. While eating her snack, Enra notices some people go by, ordering, and take their food upstairs. Typical people hunting free internet. The first floor wasn't crowded, only four to five people here, including the waitress.

"what, you don't remember him?"

"who? this guy?"

"honestly, Enra. What are you doing at high school? He is our class rep. sigh…"

"we-well, pardon me, but how I suppose remember each person's names??"

"Enra, he is also our classmates."

"…"

.

That is the conversation with Caya. Enra is feeling quite nervous meeting someone who she didn't recall back but somewhere near acquaintance.

Then, that's hit her. something pouring down outside the window.

It's raining. Drats!

She checked her phone and a message coming. With Deva, as the sender's name. no, please don't delay this meeting. She needs him to make a contract. Well, for a short period only!

Opened the message, she sighed lightly. Thank goodness, Deva only stuck at the terminal since it's raining hard outside. The terminal is close to this restaurant. Enra replaying the message. Slightly she heard a tock-tock sound beside her. she glancing around.

Someone knocking the glasses window right beside her. she was almost jumped out when she saw that 'someone' and hurriedly lent an umbrella from the worker here. That person smiling as the raining pouring down all the way, drenching his appeal.

"Timothy!"

.

"what are you doing outside? Why you not getting to any shelter building— ugh, forget it, you are crazy." She muttered to him. his responses only chuckled while his hair is covered with a towel.

Enra helping to dried him a bit. The clothes are all drenched. Luckily, he bought some substitute inside his black case. Sometimes, Enra wondering what's inside his case. The blond-haired guy excuses himself to go change, Enra nodded and ordering warm drink for him.

"long time no see… ?"

"pfft, this world is small, why would you say that? We can always meet anyway,"

Enra gives him a dry laugh. "funny, I thought people like you will hard to meet again. aren't you busy at the hospital?" now she mentioned it, she didn't know exactly his job.

Timothy takes a sip of warm tea. "Nah, at the hospital, I only volunteering. Also, that's my line, an officer as well as higher-pups like you would be the one. but, funny meeting you here."

"I can be wherever I want."

He calmly put the cup and asking again, "how is your wound?"

Enra also takes a sip and pointing her left-hand, she thought it was fractured. Luckily only small inflammation. "getting better. I thought my hand got fractured, lucky it is not."

He hummed. "were you waiting for someone?"

She coughed, "… ye-yeah." This guy's bad at changing topic. "what about you? Don't tell me you got some free time to knocked the windows, waiting for my responses and getting drenched all the way?"

He chuckled again, "I was just passing by to buy some remedy, then I saw you here. Who knows when a chance happens, you wearing a casual outfit."

Enra hmm-ed and takes a sip again. a notification sound coming from her phone. It was Deva's message. She quickly took her phone and read the replied. The blonde guy went all silent. Finished her business, Deva said it will take ten minutes to arrive here, that's a relief. Now, how to take care this blonde guy. Enra glanced at the person who sat in front of her.

Oh, their eyes met each other.

He gave her a smile, "the person you are waiting for?"

She shrugged, "yeah, ten more minutes." Take the hint and go somewhere, idiot.

"I want to take my leave, but how come that person who-you-are-waiting-for make a lady waiting alone… sigh, what to do…" he said with a mocking tune. Enra put down her drink, already empty.

"what?" Enra snapped and he grinned. Enjoying the flames.

"whoa, no offense. I'm just uttering my thought. Besides, I know you are someone who never late when it comes to an appointment." He quickly added.

Enra was done with his teasing and mocking. "thank you. Oh, and I'm very grateful for your concern. You are worried about me, being all alone. I hope you will come often to accompany me. Well, that's if you have the whole time waiting for me while drenching in the rain." Now her turn to mock him.

He laughed. "better than being alone, shortie."

"I don't like people who come late, it is wrong to arrive early?"

"not in any formal meeting. But, to go on a date, a man must arrive first rather than his woman."

"is that your logic? Because I'm not dating anyone."

"Shortie, I'm stated like this since you were wearing a casual outfit, so I thought you one."

"The heck, Timothy. No. I'm busy. This place is the nearest to my apartment so I choose this place, and stop calling me shortie!"

Timothy went silent. The same goes for her. is something wrong?

The blonde guy went grinning again. "Alright, my bad, may worse. You are not dating anyone, and your apartment is close to here. Alright, I get it."

Did she… did she just spell her private information?

"well since you already got in a bad mood, I must take my leave—"

Enra grabbed his hand. "sit. Down. You. Sadist." Timothy still looking all smiles at her.

"Sure." Timothy sat again.

"forget what I just said."

"Which one?"

"The last part."

Timothy hmm-ed, "but, I don't see anything wrong with this."

"it's wrong. I should not tell you about my private information. Now, forget it."

"it's fine. You already know my place too."

"huh, when?"

"jeez, and you still call yourself an officer. The ID card I gave you after the incident at the forest."

???

Now, he mentioned it. After that, Enra could not remember where she put the ID card. She lost them.

"I don't know and I lost the ID card. Give me one, now!"

He laughed again, "Nah, my ID card is limited. Besides, you already healed."

"you are bad at changing topics." Enra rose from her chair and start assaulting her poor but jerky one friend. "give it to me!"

Timothy grabbed both of her hands, smiling coyly and start teasing. "then, let's settle it with a quiz. If you can answer it, I will give my ID card to you. If not, so be it."

"fine."

"I brought my backpack, case, and a wallet. Which one where I put my ID card?"

"Wallet obviously."

"Ding. pity, I didn't bring my ID card as well."

"damn, you sadist!" Enra started poking his lower abdomen and he started feeling tickles.

"I should call an officer since you were assaulting me. It's rude… haha, not that spot! Touching me!" he barely said it when tickles.

Two light coming from outside the windows. She shifted her gaze and found three to four police car drives at high speed followed by the familiar sirens when something urgent coming down.

What? Is there something happened? She stopped jabbed the poor blondie and takes out her phone. In one second, almost a thousand notifies coming to her phone. Not a chance to open the group chats, Enra receiving a call from her beloved Head Chief.

"Officer Enra here"

"Where were you?"

"outside, doing groceries." Lied.

"Quickly head to the terminal Route 4. It's code RED, Enra. I already sent your subordinates ahead,"

That's hit her quite hard. A lot of thought coming to her. TM 4 is the closest Terminal from here, which is where Deva trapped because of raining. She takes her belonging if she headed back to her apartment and change her attire, will she arrive in time?

This is CODE RED, ENRA. Put yourself together! A criminal syndicate may or may not hijacked the terminal. Which is why you must arrive quickly, one soul may gone in any second.

"an incident?" Timothy breaks all the silence.

"This is dangerous. You should finish your business and go home. I have to—" Her hand grabbed again. "what, Timothy, I have an urgent matter!"

"I can give you a ride."

Second think. Second chances, and coming second regret.

"WH— LOOK WHERE YOU DRIVE!"

"This is the fastest way to the terminal"

The blondie picks up the highest speed. Screeching and sudden turn-over could be felt, inside was chaos for Enra.

"THERE IS—AAAAGHH!!"

Enra didn't know how the world can put up with this blondie. In front was a small alley and the crazy-blond guy drive through without a second thought, banging all the cupboard, trash can all the way.

The chaos driving didn't stop there, the blondie successfully break through the traffic, enormous truck, and finally arrived at the terminal gate. the lower gates for the exact place.

Enra getting off from the car with her remaining composure. She grateful she is still alive after such a ride. She makes Timothy as number one not-going-to-join-the-ride-ever-again's blacklist. After finding her purpose here, she quickly observing the environment.

It's quiet. But she can saw black smoke coming from the hazy-grey sky. Must be from the upper gate, which means the main gate is where all her subordinates reside and where all the ruckus happens between the criminals and security officers.

The blondie getting off from the car and walking leisurely. "quite a ruckus up there." She forgot there is an innocent person here.

"you, get back to your car and drive home safely."

"It looks like they are coming from the main gate, the lower gate is still empty. They might come here in any second."

"you—" Enra was about to drag him inside the car when there is a door being opened. They quickly hide behind the steel pillar. Four people appear from the door. They wore a black and hazel vest, equipped with a gun each one of them.

"probably SM-204 type D." He added.

"Yeah, I think so—" huh? How did this guy know about the type of gun and pistol?

"This will be tough."

"yo— how, wait. How did you know about this—"

DRRRTT DRRRTT. Her phone vibrated. Gosh, she forgot to switch the silent mode.

"Who's there!?" the four people upstairs start going down, embracing their gun. Aiming at empty direction below. They start exploring the base.

"you really have a death wish." He mocked her, he mocked her even in this dire situation. Enra got her panic back, this is dangerous. She didn't mean to make this worst scenario ever.

"Yo-you, stay behind. I will try to make a ruckus, then go to your car and start to drive away from here. Got it?"

"Nah, I prefer another way." He start to rise.

"wha—" Enra was about to pull him back, but he was faster than her. the blondie starts rushing ahead and aiming to yank the nearest gunner.

Enra swore she heard the alert from another one, followed by the echoes of bullets raining to his side. This is bad!

Enra started to do her job. She rolled to the side, picked up her pace and safely hide again behind the pillar without someone noticed. She glanced back to the ruckus ahead. Timothy got his timing right to yanked the nearest gunner as he was crouching again and using the gunner's body as his shield.

One of the gunners started dashing to the blondie while swinging a dagger. Enra takes three oil can and started throwing them to the gunner. It hit his head as the gunner start groaning. Enra jumped and swiftly yanked the gunner to the ground. Didn't forget to make him as a shield as well, learning from the blondie.

Now the two people upstairs didn't dare to pull the trigger. "two intruders! Contact the others!" they fall back behind the door where they come from. Must be headed to the main gate.

Enra and the blond guy picked up the gunner's body and tied with the pillar. They took the weapon and some daggers.

"let's use the base door than the upstairs one." said the blondie. Enra only giving her a silent response. "scared?" he asked.

"you should be." Enra replied to him with a serious tone. "this place is dangerous, yet you still giving me ride and dashing to the criminal. What were you thinking?"

The blondie hmm-ed. "Simply put, I can't let a woman wandering alone."

Enra can't get his joking at all. "Look," she grabbed him and facing the blondie once she knew with seriousness. "I'm a police officer. I may turn a blind eye at that time, but now it's different. Any moves, anything makes you involved in this case, I have to bring you to the interrogation room!"

His eyes didn't show any effect on those words. Normal people will shudder and obey upon hearing them.

"now, I will give one last chance. Here," she gave him the car's key which she always holding on. "drive the car, and back to your home safely."

The blondie received the keys, yet he crashed them. putting the officer in front of her frowned.

"Good. This will be a chance for you as well," the blondie taking a step forward, making their gap smaller.

"Wha— what are you doing?"

"it would be troublesome if you didn't do as you have to do, dear officer."

A step is taken. Their gap is even smaller, around one hand away.

"the heck, Timothy. Don't play anything weird right now!"

A step is taken again, and the blondie breathes could be felt within the gap.

"a chance to open your eyes rather took a blind eye again," Enra swore she saw a glimmering inside those yellow eyes. yet she realized something and her pupils shrank, she looked down.

red, thick liquid droplet stain her and the floor below them.
