Chapter 24: The Visitor

Kathleen Remes' POV

It has been a month since we got back to Finland after the assassination attempt. I have called Uncle Peter and asked him about the victim. He said that she was doing fine and I sighed a relief.

let's not forget the fact that the attempt was because of me, the Acting Queen of Finland, that he was getting away from me and I have pursued him. I did not know that he was targeting and now I get why Kai has been so furious when I left him behind.

the move to the Royal Palace has been arranged, even though there was not a decree that said Katherine needs to move out. It just that my father said in the newspaper that he just wanted his daughters under the same roof as Katherine still posed as the Crown Princess. Not that I was against it but I thought it would be much easier and my father knows me.

he had put me and Kai's quarter at the east wing while Katherine's was on the west. We hardly see each other as she went to her etiquette, politics and history classes as I was merely spending my time mostly in the library.

there were times that I was required by my father but otherwise, I would be staying in my room, drowning in the books that I haven't read or had read but reread it. I was happy in my little kingdom until one day, one mistake happened.

I was in my room, minding my own business when there was a knock on the door. Thinking that probably a maid, I went to get it. The truth was, it was Chris and he was a complete mess.

"Chris? What are you doing here?" I said as I opened the room of my quarters and he stumbled back inside the room. Kai was not here as he had something to take care of in his office.

"I see that you have come back in one piece. I thought you were a goner, Kathleen," his breath reeked with alcohol as he was talking to me. I did not stop him from getting inside as he might be drunk to think straight.

"Chris, you need to go to Katherine. I will call for her," I said before he holds my wrist and I looked at his hold. I would be lying if I did not say that act alone has been giving electricity through my body but not like the ones that Kai would do to my body. With him, all I felt was disgust.

"Chris, let me go. I will fetch for Katherine. She must be looking for you," I said as I was trying to get him to let me go. His grip was firm even in a drunken state.

"no," he said flatly.

"no?" I asked him before suddenly, I was under him on the couch. He was on top of me as I was gasping for air from the sudden hit.

"you belong to me, Kathleen, and you will never get to see Kai again," he said as he was smiling while caressing my cheeks. His breath was hot on my face and all I can think was not to puke on his face.

"Chris, you're drunk. Get off me before I call security," I said as I tried to threaten him. He was smirking darkly as he went to caress my cheeks. I tried to get out of his touch.

"soon, Kai will no longer be by your side and all you need was me and that's what matters most," he said as he was coming down onto my face as he was trying to kiss me. I was hoping that Kai might come and save me from this mess but I think I better let him know not to fucking mess with Kathleen Remes.

"I think you're over welcomed your stay here," I said as I went to flip his arm backward. He yelped before I slipped out of the couch and I went to stand at the other end of the room. He looked at me before he smirked darkly again as he drew something from his boots. Daggers. Fuck.

"don't tell me you're afraid of some daggers, Kathleen? I thought you like to play hard to get with me, princess," he said as he was flipping the daggers in his hands. Something clicked as the way he said the word 'princess' was the same as the one that I heard on the day of the attempt.

"wait, did you just called me—"

"princess, well isn't it all obvious and the fact that you still don't know who was the assassin is a shame. I thought you were the better Remes' daughter," he said as he was chuckling darkly. I gripped my hand into a fist that I know it would turn my knuckles white.

"you tried to kill us," I said grimly. He just laughed out loud.

"well, of course, without you as the acting queen and disappeared from this world, it would be easier for Katherine and me to be the King and Queen of Finland," he said as I eyed his hands that were spinning the daggers.

"Why are you doing all this?" I asked him as I wanted to get some evidence for his madness.

"All I ever had to do was to take Katherine off her sweet little feet when you were in jail. It was the perfect plan when she said yes to my proposal. But you, oh you, have to ruin it with your engagement to my fucking cousin and ruined everything that I have been working for," he spatted like it was a bitter fact that he has been dying to get out.

"yeah, I have been trying to get to the top of the food chain. My grandfather always like Kai better even when he disowned him, he still make it through and when the only person like me for I was, he chooses to switch me with Kai as he thought it would be better chance of controlling him when he takes the throne," he said as I was inches away from the door but then he stopped coming at me as he knew what I was aiming for.

"so, tell me princess, why I should not kill you?" He said as he looked at me. His green eyes were not menacing as the night that he tried to kill me but I guessed I have all the evidence that I need to convince my father that Chris was responsible for the attempt on the assassination of the Finnish royalty.

"you're mad. Why you need to prove yourself so much?" I asked him as I was eyeing his every move. He stepped forward as I stepped backward.

"you know how it feels like when someone who did not deserve all the credit gets it all. I know you do. Your sister was not the Grand Master in Chess. You are. You have been mastering several languages that you can easily help solve the politics but instead, you went to jail for the accident that happened 5 years ago," he said as he looked at me. I grunted my face. How did he know about that, I mean, only the royalty knows about that accident.

"did you not know who was the benefactor of all the handwork that I have been doing. It was your uncle, Fenn Remes. yeah, he said hi to you and also goodbye," he said and with that, he came at me lightning speed.

damn that guy, he was as fast as lightning but I have been training to deal with all sorts of things. When I was away in Prison, I have been sent to a sanctuary where I have trained myself for some future attacks. I mean, royalty does have special privileges when it came to prison and crime.

as expected, he was not smooth on his feet so I took the chance to dodge his daggers while I went to kick his feet. He stumbled onto his butt and cursed at me. I smiled before I went to flip across the room.

"don't think you have the upper hand, princess, I have bombs all around the castle and with a click on this button, everyone goes bye-bye," he said as he was holding a piece of buttons that was set to detonate when he clicked on it. I gritted my teeth.

"well, now that would be easier to play," he said before he went to throw some daggers. I flipped and somersaulted across the room, getting away from the daggers before one sliced through my calf.

"damn it," I said as I was trying to get to the other side of the room and I landed on the floor, feet staggering.

"oh, I would love to stay and chat with you but I have poison on that dagger and it will make you go bye-bye," he said before he went to the window as he saluted at me before jumping off. My head was dizzy and before I know it I was hitting the ground when I saw Kai was running at me.

"Kai," I whispered before blackness took a whole of me.
