Old Friend.

Once I was outside I see Mr. Robert standing tall next to me, he wore a gloomy and an dark expression. It was an odd and unusual look for him because all the other times I've seen him, he has always held a gentle expression. He has never managed to give away his emotions like the way he is right now. Noticing me observing him, he quickly returns back to his usual self but not realising I've already seen that look of him. However, the moment I decided to ask him about it, he speaks first.

"Rest well, Miss Hayley."

I could tell he looked reluctant to say anymore so I nodded my head and walked inside the apartment.

"Are you sure she's the girl you choose?"

"If not her, there's no one worth fighting for."

"I like her, She changes you." Robert voiced his opinion as his expression turned soft and his eyes filled with concealed hope. She never ceased to amaze him, she was a special girl; Special enough to capture Prince Elijah's heart. The way he treated her was enough to make him never want to cross her but he didn't need to, he didn't want to; for he liked that girl.

"Get used to it." Prince Elijah replied; a rare smile on his face.

He saw Hayley as a fresh breath of air, someone that would fill his life with a purpose. She came at the time when his life was hanging loose on a thin string, the ones he called his own were coming at him with full force and he had been helpless.

He looked out the window at the quiet world, a world where when the day breaks, it turns into yet another buzz filled competition. Each day was a battle of survival, a race to power and wealth. The ones who succeeded remaining on the top of the world and the ones who lose continue to try it again the next day.

"About him...will Gonzalez take action?"

Robert spoke after some thought. He understood clearly about the whole ordeal today because he would have to be a fool to be deceived. That man was a fox, a pure, ultimate fox and he didn't even wear a sheep's clothing. But the one he needed to look out for was far more cunning, which left him greatly appalled at the fact he had suddenly disappeared without a trace. "What brazen was that old man plotting!?" He thought.

"I've got it covered." Prince Elijah held his wicked grin. "He knows who he needs to stay away from, if not; he will be the biggest fool of all time." He continued, victory already present in his mind.

It was no secret to them; their cooperation was a coverup for what was actually happening behind the scenes. The society was changing, the rules were bending and the support was shifting to a whole new figure. This only increased their urgency, they would take any chances to get close but it seems even they hadn't expected the unfavourable turn of event.

*Hayley's POV*

By the time I returned home last night Rebecca was already fast asleep and the apartment had been left in a hushed state. I have yet to make it up to her after bailing out on her at the last minute, however, before that I should really focus on work first. I can't solely rely on my savings, in the last four months of being in this big city I have almost used up all my past incomes. Getting this job has been a blessing in disguise and the offer of six figure income came as a shock but I was totally prepared. More income meant more responsibilities, more commitments and a lot more self control. Especially around the elephant in the room. Up till this point I have not once regretted my decision of moving here, thanks to Rebecca because if not for her, I cannot imagine how I would get through it all. I stay laying wide awake in my bed and continue to wander through my mind, playing these scenes over and over again until the sound of my alarm makes me jump out of bed.

...*Get up and Run!!!*... Flashes my phone screen and the time reads '6am'. I quickly freshen up for the day and slip into my sports wear, as quiet as possible because I wouldn't want to ruin Miss Becca's beauty sleep.

I go on my usual route but stop on my track when I notice a small crowd of people gathered around what looked to be a person. I mingle amongst the crowd to get a closer look and immediately become astounded at the sight. I see the expression on the man who had been lying flat on the surface and he seemed to immediately recognise me.

"You..you're finally here. I've been looking everywhere for you." He spoke as if he had just seen his biggest rescuer, the once fallen weak man was now up on his feet without any support. The crowd went closer to help but he brushed them off "Do I look that old to you!" He complained and ignored the ones around him as he walked towards me; both his hands out for me to grab hold of. I nervously looked around me, only to find everyone's accusing glare. They were clearly blaming me for his behaviour just now.

"What kind of a human are you!" A bit older looking woman shouted.

"Yeah! Take your poor granddad home and feed him!" Two other ladies who looked to be around her age agreed and the three of them stormed off.

"I'm sorry for the trouble I caused you all, Thank you for helping him." To avoid further arguments I thanked the crowd, hoping it will warm their hearts a little. I bowed my head and pulled the old man along with me.

"No need to lower yourself like that, child." He said with his authoritative voice yet his eyes full of warmth.

"What were you doing on the floor?" I questioned.

"I tripped, but forget about me. Now tell me child. Where did you disappear to for the last five years?"
